Help disguise this monstrosity!

We recently bought a property with the most god awful spiral staircase in the living room. It was supposed to be ripped out and a normal staircase put in but we've been let down by the person who was supppsed to be doing it and due to new quotes won't be able to afford it 🙄

Please someone help me disguise this monstrosity or help me devise a way that doesn't make me want to cry every time I enter this room.

For clarity the doorway is on the wall directly facing the staircase, but in the right hand corner. The staircase is on the left.

Thick rope on the handrail perhaps? Attached by transparent cable ties?

I am not sure what we will do with the handrails but my mum has bought me a string of fairy lights to try tomorrow. Carpets went in earlier - getting there!

You know what you could do? You could 'wrap' all the top rails with some sisal rope or something similar to make the top banisters more solid looking...ok not entirely sure how or what you could use but it might look very well....

It looks tons better - much more substantial. Well done, OP.
