Where would you recommend to buy sofas?

We are ready to replace our living room sofas. I'm wary of expensive sofas that wear really quickly.

We got ours online from Claytons carpets. Got identical sofas to ones in Fenwick and Barker and Stonehouse for a much better price.

Next. We've had ours ten years and they still look great.

All our sofas are from dfs and they're great. I wrote it off for years thinking they were naff and cheesy but then ended up finding exactly the style/colour we were looking for in there when we'd drawn blanks elsewhere. We've had that pair for a couple of years now and we're so pleased with them we've recently bought a corner sofa from there for our family room. They are faring better than our previous sofa which came from John Lewis and looked shabby after a year. They offer a great range of fabrics, different fillings etc and their finance options are very worthwhile. Their customer service is great too. You do have to look past the garish patterns/hideous leather trims/massive reclining numbers with iPod docking stations in the arms though!!!

If you buy a light coloured sofa see if you can get a fabric protection insurance policy. We paid an extra £200 for 5 years and have become great friends with Russ the specialist cleaning guy! He's been out at least 4 times in 3 yrs and even with a 5 yo and 2 yo my cream sofa is still spotless.

I love Ikea sofas.

Cheap, durable and machine washable covers.

The mass produced Ektorp ones start at about £250 for a 2 seater. I have one from over a decade ago that is still going strong.

I'm just about to replace my Multiyork sofa, it is 17 years old and the covers have only just gone, the frame and padding etc. is still as good as new. Sadly couldn't afford Multiyork this time so am trying out sofa.com, I suspect it won't last as long though.

We have DFS and M&S ones. Both over 8 years old and still going strong. No sign of any wear at all. I would say that the M&S one is winning slightly, it still looks brand new.

John Lewis. We bought a lovely 'L' shaped one from there a few years ago, very comfortable and the covers take a gentle washing and line drying.

My mum has a couple of Next ones that must be nearly 10 years old and look as good as new.

M&s, all the way. Cheap sofas are a false economy.

Loaf.

Sofology. Best sofa experience ever. Don't buy online - we bought sofas from couch.co.uk and they are so uncomfortable. We never sit in them.

Sofa workshop. Good interest free credit, good quality, made in UK.

We have one from barker and stone house which is my total favourite- it's longer than any sofa on the planet and I can genuinely have a brilliant sleep on it. The other is from Harvey's and is also fab- lovely electric recliner and it has pocket springs too so it's super super comfy.

My only advice would be to go to everywhere and sit on all of them!

Multiyork. To the previous poster who said it is just the covers that need replacing - contact them for a quote. I think they say they will always do replacement covers even for old models.

Sofa.com excellent customer service, popular models can be delivered straight away good choice of colours & fabric, we have large & small bluebell model very comfortable & have lasted well.

We have a corner sofa from M&S and a 2 seater from Next. Have had them for years and they are both wearing very well.

On a budget, I'd go with Ikea. There's surprisingly sturdy and last forever despite being very cheap. The covers can be washed in the washing machine so that's very practical.

We have a Multiyork. Seriously comfy but wearing so badly. We think it is below standard so it has been back to the manufacturer but, apparently, the peeling leather is normal wear & tear. My brother bought an IKEA sofa the same week as we bought ours from Multiyork & spent, I think, 10% of what we did. His are also comfy & he just replaces the covers from time to time.

We got ours about 5 years ago from Harvey's. They are faux leather recliners and still doing well

DFS. Their range is so big you're bound to find something you like, and the quality is good. Plus a lot of their sofas are made in Britain.

Wesley Barrell - cost a lot but last forever and never sag.

Multiyork. They will make replacement covers no matter how old the furniture and they will recondition springs, padding, cushions etc. The only thing is we want to buy soon a big corner sofa, preferably with pop-out foot rests and I don't think they do anything so vulgar!
