Where would you recommend to buy sofas?

We are ready to replace our living room sofas. I'm wary of expensive sofas that wear really quickly.

On a budget I'd for for Ikea if you like their simple designs. Very hard wearing and natural fabrics and many sofas have removable and washable covers. I've had the Ektorp (lasted well and long and gave it away still in excellent shape) and also Stocksund. Added attraction is you can try it out at the store.
Most of the other sofa sellers DFS, Fabb, even JL now etc sell Sofas with 100% polyester fabrics (I can't stand man-made myself, also irritating to the skin!) unless you buy at a premium for natural cloth, then you have the extra waiting time for delivery.
Sofa workshop have some nice scandi designs but long delivery times and pricey for natural fabrics and you have to mostly buy on spec as only a small range in store.
If you have allergies as I do, beware of some outfits who stuff with feathers etc. Sofa.com being one.
I've just been through the sofa buying drama and seeing and trying exactly the sofa I intend to buy in the flesh is essential, so wish you good luck.

I love Barker and Stonehouse. Also love that all the stores are so different. Gateshead is tame (anf fingerprinty), but Newcastle is ridiculously bling. My favourite is the outlet on Portrack lane, though. Teesside park has a greater balance of the industrial and recycled stuff.

Would not recommend DFS! We're still waiting for our sofas 2 months on and appalling customer service.

Elevenclips sorry thread hijack....interested to hear your Ektorp has lasted well. DH is not keen but I like. He says it won't last! We are buying two sofas for living room.

Is it better to wait until post Xmas sales?

Yes. Leather 3 seater with 2 cushions. It's been ok but I wouldn't recommend it & am planning on Multi York or M&S next time.

Next have been great for us they're 12 years old and we are changing them because they are deeply old fashioned now but they have years left in them.

If you want leather Thomas Lloyd make them to last - we've had a sofa & a chair 14 years and the other one 8 years. All in excellent condition still and very comfy!

Have a look in Furniture village. Like DFS, once you manage to avert your eyes from the jumbo cordruoy monsters there are some nice ones. I was looking to buy the Bluebell from sofa.com and saw a practically identical one there in the sale. I bought it 4 years ago and it still looks spanking, even with the cats. It's also the comfiest sofa I've ever sat on. I love it! Also look around for discount codes - I got a further 15% off.

Tetrad from Barker & Stonehouse, one lot is 22 years and the other 20 years, so comfy, lots of feather padding which is still going strong with washable covers. Large sofas with plenty room to lie on

May need to get 2 re upholstered next year but certainly not getting rid, expensive but worth every penny

Ours from Sofa Workshop have been with us over 15 years and just getting re- upholstered. Quality is fantastic and very comfortable.

Multiyork. They will make replacement covers no matter how old the furniture and they will recondition springs, padding, cushions etc. The only thing is we want to buy soon a big corner sofa, preferably with pop-out foot rests and I don't think they do anything so vulgar!

DFS. Their range is so big you're bound to find something you like, and the quality is good. Plus a lot of their sofas are made in Britain.

We got ours about 5 years ago from Harvey's. They are faux leather recliners and still doing well

We have a Multiyork. Seriously comfy but wearing so badly. We think it is below standard so it has been back to the manufacturer but, apparently, the peeling leather is normal wear & tear. My brother bought an IKEA sofa the same week as we bought ours from Multiyork & spent, I think, 10% of what we did. His are also comfy & he just replaces the covers from time to time.

On a budget, I'd go with Ikea. There's surprisingly sturdy and last forever despite being very cheap. The covers can be washed in the washing machine so that's very practical.

We have a corner sofa from M&S and a 2 seater from Next. Have had them for years and they are both wearing very well.

Multiyork. To the previous poster who said it is just the covers that need replacing - contact them for a quote. I think they say they will always do replacement covers even for old models.

We have one from barker and stone house which is my total favourite- it's longer than any sofa on the planet and I can genuinely have a brilliant sleep on it. The other is from Harvey's and is also fab- lovely electric recliner and it has pocket springs too so it's super super comfy.

My only advice would be to go to everywhere and sit on all of them!
