Help me decide front door colour

Finally getting rid of our awful white double glazed front door and getting bespoke solid wood one ( similar to one in photo)
We live in a 200 yr Old whitewashed cottage in Wales and the window frames are black with slate windowsills and black guttering/drainpipes
I'd rather not have a black front door and don't think an oak door would fit in with the style...thinking about a grey/ grey blue?..(looking at Farrow and Ball for inspiration)
Can anyone advise please......do I go dark or can I get away with a lighter colour ( like photo)

What about this? Stiffkey blue apparently.

I like a strong front door colour personally, so it stands out. With black guttering a pale door might disappear.

I like white. Traditional looking. Please don't go grey as it's so "now" that it will date very soon- every new build fake old house near here has that dark grey.

The blue ish one you put is nice.

CharlieandLolaCat · 27/07/2017 21:38

I personally would always go aubergine. But I would also say check your paint - I had my door made so that I could keep the original stained glass, rush bought my paint, handed it to the carpenter without testing it and ended up with lilac ..... although it has grown on me ......

Ours is v similar to your pic. Celestial Blue by Little Greene Paint Co. We've had it a few years now and still get lots of compliments.

I agree with not using grey, it will date.

Ojoj1974 · 27/07/2017 21:55

I love your choice

Stopyourhavering · 28/07/2017 19:38

Thanks for the suggestions....I'm off into town tomorrow to get colour charts/ sample pots for Farrow and Ball and The Little Green Company....I like Celestial Blue but want to see how it fits in with the overall look.....plenty to choose from!!Smile

That pale blue is amazing!!!
We are moving house soon and will need to pick a new front door colour!
I'm so bad at decisions! We have a black door ATM (not my choice)
So I want something different like green or navy! Ahh keep us updated

Farrow Light Blue 22 or French Grey.
Both variations of blue/green/grey and look lovely with stone (providing it's grey rather than yellow stone)

The house has whitewashed render.....slate roof , black window surround....
See photo attached....( this was winter about 8 yrs ago!)

Im sorry never get settled snow where i am and even if i did my home will still not look nice!

ScarletSienna · 07/08/2017 23:32

I like grey and don't think it is so 'now' that it'll date as it's been popular for quite a few years now.
However, the blue in the photo posted above would look amazing.

Evangeline3 · 08/08/2017 01:05

I always love a grey door!

dontcallmelen · 08/08/2017 19:55

My front door is f&b Brinjal which is a maroon/aubergine colour, our house is half brick half pale grey render, looks very smart.

Intransige · 08/08/2017 20:40

I like this kind of pale green. Your blue is also lovely.

I really like the colour you posted in your OP, more blue than grey and therefore a bit different

thegirlupnorth · 08/08/2017 21:45

What colour will the wood in the eaves/Roof be? Personally I think a coloured door with all the black and white will look odd, sorry.

Stopyourhavering · 08/08/2017 22:07

Wood of eaves will be kept black ( as will the guttering).....I can see the reasoning behind keeping door black as well.....but I do like the grey grey/ blue colours too( to pick up the colours in the slate roof) !! Aagghh

Having seen your photo I'd say black - what about a very dark "almost black" from F&B like Railings

SuperBeagle · 08/08/2017 22:14

Red.

Red doors are the best doors.

littlemissneela · 08/08/2017 22:20

I painted our old boring wooden front door this blue. I orginally painted it a darker blue but it was too dark, so I mixed it with a lighter blue, and it came out this colour. The door faced north so it really brightened the area up.
Go with a colour that will make you happy every time you walk up to it Smile

Farrow & ball pigeon
Gorgeous green grey

SavoyCabbage · 08/08/2017 22:24

My front door is Farrow and Ball 'cooks blue' as of yesterday and it's beautiful! I haven't taken a photo yet.

Oomph · 08/08/2017 22:28

How about a deep red?

thegirlupnorth · 08/08/2017 22:36

Go with a slate blue that tones in with the roof then and come back and show us when it's done!
