I'd like a dressing table. My ideal one would be something like

Have a look at prettypegs.com for legs. They're great.

Fairylea · 06/05/2017 16:12

I think IKEA is a bit of an overpriced Argos to be honest. Things I've seen in IKEA that I've liked have been found for cheaper in Argos.

Monkeypuzzle32 · 06/05/2017 16:22

great site LokisLover never seen it before

LokisLover · 06/05/2017 16:52

It's a brilliant site and they're really helpful too. I've used them on my karlstad sofa and an old 60s sewing box.

LokisLover · 06/05/2017 16:53

This is a good website too.

Sorry for the lack of proper links

And if you search for discounts online you can usually get up to 15% off

I find Argos furniture to be of lesser quality than IKEA in my experience.

Most of our house is IKEABlush the dc's room is all IKEA except for dd2'a cot and we recently bought our third Kallax unit.

I love those hacked versions of the IKEA shelf, one of them looks almost identical to the £700 one in the op.

Onthehighseas · 06/05/2017 17:16

This is pretty similar and very cheap.

LightYears · 06/05/2017 21:31

I was just looking for a sofa in Ikea and came across this Shock

Kokusai · 07/05/2017 11:10

I love he desk and have been looking for something similarly.

susannahmoodie that one can't be great for £60 but it sure looks nice in the photos.

Kokusai · 07/05/2017 11:15

I was going to move away from Ikea and get a bit more grown up - but ultimately it's great design and a great price!

I've got into la redoute in a big way - they have some fab Scandinavian stuff and ok price when deals like 40% off.

Biggarena · 07/05/2017 11:24

I have quite a bit of IKEA furniture, it's cheap and well designed, I have mixed it up with some bespoke and more expensive pieces though.

As a PP has mentioned, the Lisabo desk from IKEA is very similar and could be painted.

Hey OP. There are a few lovely ones on La Redoute at the moment. Def worth a look.

itsacatastrophe · 07/05/2017 17:07

Ikea quality is sooo much better then Argos. I love Ikea, nearly my entire house is furnished from Ikea, but this is my dream dressing table. Might have to copy the hack though as that is gorgeous too

OP check out Habitat Cato:

here

If you search 'Cato' there are actually eight different variations - a more compact one, ones with mirrors, different colours. Some are out of stock at the moment. I get emails from Habitat several times a year advertising 25% off events.

I can't work out why they haven't included a drawer in the central bit though!

Palomb · 07/05/2017 20:36

We've been through the Ikea phase and are now put the other side. We now have a mixture of old real wood furniture we've bought second hand and Ikea that has been modified in some way by us - usually spray painting with Valspar which is so easy and rewarding!

I love that one

Kokusai · 08/05/2017 15:28

OP check out Habitat Cato

Oh I like that a lot, I quite like that there isn't a draw in the middle, can slot my laptop down there when not in use.

KatherinaMinola · 08/05/2017 15:44

Yes, I was going to suggest a La Redoute console table - I really like the one you posted upthread.

missmillimentscardigan · 08/05/2017 15:51

I know how you feel, OP. We have quite a lot of Ikea furniture and it's all practical and pretty well-made, but it's not exactly stylish. I've got a couple of Ektorp armchairs that I'd really like to upgrade. I like the look of a lot of the furniture from made.com. Has anyone bought from there? What's the quality like?
