I'd like a dressing table. My ideal one would be something like

I got a bed from Made. It's gorgeous but it took ages to get, longer than they said and then we had to exchange it 3 times as each one had a large noricible fault in the fabric. Exchanging was a huge faff as it's such a large piece and we only needed to swop one part but they had to bring a whole new bed each time even though we only sent back the faulty bit.

It felt like hard work and put me off them tbh.

I also have to disagree with the pp who said Ikea is like Argos, some bits might be but we've had pax wardrobes that are still going strong after 8-10 years daily use and a bedside table we bought from Argos fell apart after a year in a rarely used spare room and was always a bit wobbly. I know that's just one example but I do think Ikea furniture is generally really solid and well made. Especially for the price.

I made the mistake of thinking Argos was just like IKEA...

I'd forgotten the horror of truly shit flat pack. Shit design, shit construction, shit instructions. But very, very cheap.

We have a lot from IKEA. I'd also like a change but the trouble is, IKEA is successful for a reason....! And Argos isn't comparable in my experience.

Those hairpin legs you can get from eBay. My dh made an amazing table from reclaimed scaffolding boards and hairpin legs.

But why move on from IKEA when you can do stylish with it?

I wouldn't pay any more tbh. Get on pinterest! Loads of lovely (cheap) ideas on there that don't look cheap to me (so long as everything else in your house isn't IKEA obviously!)

I love the look of that hacked tabled with the hairpin legs.

FlouncingInTheRain · 09/05/2017 21:30

ebay variant

Ooh that's nice.

Placemarking to look at all these in the morning. Sorry!

Do check the measurements of these - the hartleys one is only 61cm to the bottom of the table which isn't enough leg clearance for me to work at. Would be fine as a dressing table but not desk.

ElspethFlashman · 10/05/2017 09:47

The hairpin legs are definitely available separately in IKEA.

(Though actually what I suspect ppl have done is use the Krill legs without putting the caster on the bottom)

There are wooden peg legs too, called Hilver. Don't seem to be splayed though.
