Should I buy this sofa? And other sofa related questions...

I don't really trust my own judgement or style, so votes please - should I buy this sofa? And if so, in teal or grey? It's £899 for a four seater and a bit less for a three or two seater.

DH and I live in a 1950s house and quite like quite clean lines, Festival of Britain/ Barbican type style.

We've got a large red print on the wall - see pic - and wondering if the teal sofa is too much colour in the (pretty small) sitting room.

Ah, just found Next have one very similar - about £200 cheaper.

I found the DFS one to be very soft and the Next one a bit firmer.

I like the grey!

Both of these were on my shortlist but I opted for DFS's Aurora sofas and saved a fortune!

What colour are your walls and floor?

Those next sofas look like two seaters which I'd avoid.

Oh my word, that's a lot cheaper! £399 for the three seater Aurora! Although they don't seem to have a four seater. The sofa we're replacing was around that price 15 years ago, and it's now all saggy and worn, so we are trying to spend enough to get something which will really last...but not get ripped off and pay hundreds of pounds more for nothing.

How long have your had your Aurora, IamNotDarling? Is it lasting well?

Prefer the look of the first ones (like the button backs). Definitely go sit on them before buying.

I think you shouldn't try to match your sofa with a picture. Prioritise the sofa; you can always move the picture to another room.

I prefer teal as it's a bit different.

We had a grey sofa that shade and I really regretted it, it looked like it should have been in an office reception - not a good look! although that could have just been how it looked in my house!

Walls are white. Floor is engineered oak panels. Also got a wood burner (black) and a white mirror above the fireplace (similar to this pic). Curtains currrently cheapo beige from Ikea, plain brushed satin curtain rails, but we want to replace them too as they were just cheap things we bought years ago and have never got round to buying grown up ones.

Ha - DH says the grey looks like an office, and that we shouldn't match our sofa to the picture. But the picture is quite meaningful to me: it was my granparents, it's an original Patrick Caulfield print, it's one of the only proper bits of art we own, and I love it!

We did go and sit on the DFS one and it's very comfy. Haven't sat on the Next one and didn't see the Aurora one in DFS, although the French Connection one was straight ahead as you walked in the shop, because clearly they want you to buy the more expensive one and hide the fact they have a cheaper version!

We loved that Dfs one but were irritated how expensive scotch guarding and delivery was so went to barker and stone house and got the juni. They have a much bigger range of fabric choices, including different hues of teal.

I have the four seater Zinc sofa in grey, as in your first picture. It's fab, super comfy, get nothing but compliments about it. Has coped with cats and child with no issues. Really pleased I bought it.

Our house was built in the fifties and we have it furnished in the mid-century modern style. I think that the teal color is more true to the era, as is the button back.

The grey is okay, but does not provide a mid-century vibe.

If you live in/near East Anglia have a look at these guys Facebook page for latest stock. Lots of sofas in that style at much reduced prices. I think they'll give you a delivery quote too.

Monkey - just had a look at the Juni - seems at least as expensive -£849 for what looks like a 2 or 3 seater, £1149 for a large. Haven't looked at the scotch guard / delivery with DFS but hoping it's not hundreds?!

Looks like teal is probably in the lead on this thread...

Do people actually have matching sofas? We are thinking of replacing both our 4 seater and 3 seater (bought many year apart and not matching).

From what you describe, white walls, wooden floor, wood burner, I think the real would look lovely and fresh. But I think the red picture needs moving- to the kitchen perhaps? If you're trying to get something to go with that pic you're really limiting yourself. A teal and white colour scheme with wood and silver detail will look beautiful imo

And do you need to pay extra for the scotchguard? Is it a false economy not to get it?

Have you checked the measurements on the two sofas?

They look similar, but might have very different seat depth, for example.

I bought a sofa about a year ago and I very slightly regret not looking for one that was deeper (not too much regret though as I don't think I'd have found one that fit all my other requirements)

Will teal plus the red picture just look a bit too primary school? Or cool and funky?

Trills - have measured the length, but will definitely plot out in our sitting room exactly where it (or they, if we go for 2 sofas) will extend to (in all directions!)

The red picture is opposite the larger sofa, not directly above it, if that helps (with the shorter sofa at right angles to the longer one).
