I am so useless with decorating! Currently other than my boys rooms everywhere is cream with dark wood or dark brown leather! It looks coordinated but that's all I can say.

Firstly I want to sort out my bedroom, we have a brown leather bed that has to stay, we have brown chests of drawers which also have to stay. Other than that I'm open to suggestions.

My Dh is very conservative , I am less so.
What I really want is something that all fits together and is as up to date as I can get without buying new furniture,
I need wall colours, curtains and bedding, please .
I have spent a week shopping and taking things back and spending ££ on tester pots and I'm now totally dejected but feel I've spent so much time on this I need to actually do something .
My DH is ok with whatever I do as long as I don't break the bank or ever mention it to him again!,

I have waster about eleventy billion hours on Pinterest and come up with a lot of rooms but can't source the colours and items .

Can someone with an ounce of taste please take pity on me!

Have you found some inspiration from Pinterest that you'd like to copy? Post a pic here and we'll try to help. Have you searched for 'brown leather bed' then you can see what goes?

Yes I've searched until my eyes bleed!
I like the idea of blue or grey , not so keen on the beige.
Like the ideas of darker walls
InwNt White bedding and aubergine but my son has pointed out that is basically premier inn!

How about dusky pinks? Then add in some stronger aubergine as well

Or how do you feel about combining strong colours?

Not keen on navy or dusky pink but like the idea on the navy one ,
I like the idea of combining strong colours just struggling with the right shades . My wedding colours were orange and purple which everyone says yuck to but with the right shades it looked amazing !

Is a feature wall in or out? Don't say in if you like it as I don't really care! Just unlikely to decorate for another 10 yrs so want it to look as up to date as possible!
I think my decorating ideas are stuck in the late 1990's early 2000's somewhere which was the last time my brain worked ie before kids !

I don't like pretty lacy styles

I think if you have dark furniture you have to either brighten the whole room up with lighter colour , like light blue , or if your room has lots of natural light then you could embrace the dark and use a darker colour , darker blue or teal .

ggirl · 19/02/2017 20:21

I think a subtle feature wall is lovely but a jarring contrasting one is dated

justaweeone · 19/02/2017 20:22

Pink
Do you mean the first navy one?

FritzyMousey · 19/02/2017 21:18

It may be the brown leather bed that is making it hard, having just decorated around a brown leather sofa that I hate I found it hard to match anything. All the lovely modern colour schemes that I loved just didn't work with the brown. Even when you look at the lovely schemes justaweeone has posted above, add the brown and it looks dated. Sorry that's not helpful!

Pinkpeanut27 · 19/02/2017 21:47

Ok so the bed and dark furniture is old hat I get that !
I have one wall which is mainly window and radiator and one which is all white doors the other has a door in it , so there wouldn't be too much wall colour .
Could I get away with dark blue walls , silver grey curtains and white bedding ?

Or should I go light grey walls and white bedding , I think that might look cold and sterile with the dark everything else ? So what curtains should I put with that ?

My whole house needs updating but my husband believes once you have painted that's it done for ever ! I am slowly trying to bring him round to modernising and extending downstairs so upstairs I have a very limited budget so can't rinnto furniture just soft furnishings .

I don't want pretty lacy
I'm not keen on brown cream or beige as a major colour ( too similar)
And I'm not a pink person but would use pink as an accent colour .

You are all being very helpful btw
