How much would you spend on a bed?

I know you're supposed to invest in the mattress, be DP and me both love the IKEA hard foam mattress. So that's sorted.

It's the bed frame that we're struggling to find. We've just bought our first house, so I'd like to avoid my previous IKEA renting mentality (they're all horrid this season anyway). Invest in smothering that'll last.

I'm not a lover of a divan, I prefer a wood frame and I seem to go for mid century styles.

The bed I've fallen for is an American brand and whilst I think the frame is worth the price, the shipping is $450!

So, bed frames - what's your damage and was it worth it?

I spent about £700 from Get Laid Beds on a frame.

We spent £500 on a wooden frame from John Lewis (the mattress cost about that on top). We've had it eight years and it's like new. We've got a lovely guest bed frame from Benson's for beds for £360. It feels really solid and looks good.

If you post a link to the style you like someone might be able to find a uk company that makes something similar.

Good to hear it's worth the investment, these are two that have caught my eye. One doesn't come in a king size (we're both tall) and the other comes with the $450 postage. I think I'll have to keep looking.

I've had a desk and chair from MADE. I was very happy with them both.

My friend has a dining set from MADE, which is gorgeous. I think when it comes to beds, spending more to get a better investment is worth the money. i got a cheap bed from Argos I think and it broke in a year :(

Looks similar to what you want. I'm thinking of purchasing it shortly for spare room. For the main bedroom I bought a side lift ottoman divan from sueno and a headboard from maison du monde which you can buy washed linen slip covers for in different colors . Both are great so far, only had them a week. Also good mattress from sueno

Thanks conifers I have actually get that bed on the list already! It's just so hard to know quality wise, esp buying online. Not heard of Sueno, off to have a browse.

I paid £370 about eight years ago for an 1880s Wrought iron bed. I always wanted one and then discovered them on eBay missed the first one but secured the second. I love it. I would say buy what you love and you won't tire of it.
Have you contacted them to see if they have any UK stockists?

I've just phoned the company and dream bed will actually be in stock in a King in late Jan. Gives a little time to save, so I might bite the bullet and spend a fuck ton invest. Thanks for all the opinions, really helpful!

We paid about £1200 for our bedframe 23 years ago!!! It was a hard sided waterbed and since then DH has converted it into a platform bed so we have a soft side waterbed mattress on it. We live in a bungalow so the weight of the bed is not a problem. Nowadays I suppose it's rather old fashioned but its about 6' x 7' and Christmas morning DD who's 23 still gets in with us!!! Great thing about waterbeds is that you don't have to replace the mattresses like you do with regular beds unless they get damaged.

Sorry - should also have added that it is a mahogany half poster - has posts top and bottom with large headboard and fancy footboard and is on legs (the support for the watermattress is in the middle down to the floor). Only downside is that you have to get it all drained if you need to redecorate.

I think it was about £500. After 3 cheaper ones that looked nice but turned out a bit uncomfortable, I got obsessive about headboards. So many headboards leave head and neck uncomfortable if you sit up in bed - they're too short, or there are ridges sticking out at the top (why??), or you end up resting your head at a funny angle between bars while reading. Okay, headboards with bars have some uses (nudge nudge wink wink) but the only really comfortable ones to lean on are basically plain.

might be worth bringing a picture to a local carpenter. The design is fairly simple and at nealy 500 pounds only for shipping it migh be worth it.

Is it made by that company? If not you may be able to get it in the U.K. If you can find a make and model number? Shipping could also take a long while

We always said we wouldn't spend silly money on a bed. Earlier this year we bought a Stearns and Foster bed and mattress, that should have been $12,000 () but we got it for $1200 as it was ex display, there was a sale on etc etc. Oh my, it's the most comfortable thing in the world! Not sure if it's $12k worth (there are lots of electrical features that we don't really use, like massages) but definitely worth every penny of what we paid

HAve you looked at Warren Evans beds? They are solid wood, and get good reviews on here and elsewhere

Check warren Evans beds. They're beautifully made, completely solid and the service from the company was great. I love the fact that the bed is completely silent (especially with teenagers in the house 😜)

Surely if you're using an IKEA mattress, you will have to buy one of their beds? As they are in European sizes and won't be compatible with British standard sizes. Hopefully someone will prove me wrong, but that's what I thought.

Be careful with sizing on an Ikea mattress and check the dimensions carefully - theirs are not normally the same as UK beds.

For a well-made bed that doesn't cost a stupid amount I'd recommend Warren Evans.

Pootle and Feesh Ikea have actually discontinued the mattress we wanted, but they now do EU sizes too. So I've got to go see what the new lot are like at IKEA but still have free reign on the bed frame

Louisville yes it's made by a European designer, but it's just as expensive to ship from the Netherlands!

Join excellent sleuthing, I almost bought the Portobello yesterday. But then the description says "we recommend you buy bed slats" and I read SO many bad reviews on the company so I chickened out. Love the Soak bed, but foot boards are a no-no due to height fussy DP and I wonder how high it would sit with the slimline IKEA mattress. I wish they had clearer pictures!

We have this bedframe from Bensons, along with a firm iGel mattress. It's very comfortable although the mattress weighs a ton. It's the nicest bed we have ever had (you can change the fabric and colour of the pad).

My absolute dream bed would be from Loaf.com but I'm saving that for when I don't have cats that love to shred!
