I really love this sofa from DFS French Connection range. I love it in black leather ( the navy leather is nice too) but am worried that it will date really quickly?
I can't figure out how to link to it but it's got quite a 70's look to it. Very trendy right now but might look outdated in a couple of years? Should I play it safe and get something a bit more boring?

Everything will date eventually, but some designs are classic and if you like it then go for it.
We have just put something similar in a 1900s cottage, in teal velvet! Everyone says how good it looks!

The only thing I'd say is be careful about your choice of leg colour, so that it is sympathetic with you other furnishings. For some reason it can change the look of everything.

I do love the sofa and it would look great. But it is very 70s retro and I worry that in 2 years I will wonder what the hell I was thinking? Whereas if I go for something more classic ( and dull) it won't go out of fashion, as it was never really in fashion so to speak?

I have it in grey. It is very very comfy. I actually think it looks pretty classic in its design. Mine is in our kitchen/dining room/back lounge, and I have a more boring beige sofa in our front room. We have lots of compliments on the zinc and one of my friends have bought it too.

This one? m.dfs.co.uk/zinc-leather/4-seater-sofa-zinc-leather#30rcHv6RYOQZZeXk.97

I like the design and don't think it'll date as it's a retro classic but prefer it in fabric. I feel like the leather is what will date it.

I also think you should get something you really love so if you love the black leather one then get that. A safer option might not date but you'll never get excited about it either. If you love it then go for that one. Smile

We have small children and pets who have trashed our current fabric sofa so we vowed to get leather next time.

Paula I'm glad you say it's comfy. It doesn't look like it would be. It would be our main sofa for lounging on watching tv etc

We went boring on our new couch last year. Comfy and a good make so will last for years but do wish we'd gone with a more 'wow' couch. Go for the DFs one

duende · 19/06/2016 22:30

I hope it won't date, I've just ordered it in teal :)
We have had leather sofas for the last 10 years, I really fancy warm fabric this time. and I love the design.

0hCrepe · 19/06/2016 22:38

We've got it in fabric. Really pleased with it. We got the protective covering and accidental cover too though!

Northcountrygirl16 · 19/06/2016 22:43

Is it the kind of couch you can all lie on and watch movies all together?

OP posts:
0hCrepe · 19/06/2016 22:59

We do but I'd go and try one out!

Northcountrygirl16 · 19/06/2016 23:00

It seems comfy in the shop but you can't exactly all pile on.

What configuration do you have?

OP posts:
0hCrepe · 20/06/2016 18:20

I've got the 4 seater and a cuddle chair. There are 4 of us (and a dog who is not allowed on!)

Northcountrygirl16 · 20/06/2016 18:43

There are 4 of us too and that's what I was thinking of getting. Do you have enough room for everyone?

OP posts:
0hCrepe · 20/06/2016 20:15

Yes but cuddled up. Quite often one person lies across the cuddler and the other three on sofa or 2 and 2 with cuddling!

Faithsock · 12/02/2017 15:10

I've just ordered the zinc sofa in teal too! How is everyone getting on with theirs? Also, how have you managed to match them with the rest of you decors? I've realised they are going to clash with our existing curtains so we are going to have to have a rethink about our soft furnishings. We are stuck with a very dark laminate floor and have off white walls.

Adgwill · 02/05/2017 18:49

Hi fellow Zinc owners. Has anyone else had problems with the fabric on the small cushions and footstool bobbling? Ours are still less than a year old and look awful. There are only 2 of us in the house and we don't use the footstool that often but it looks a mess. Not spoke to them yet but wondered if anyone else has had the same?

Thanks

Joenalf · 03/10/2017 14:07

Does anyone have the French Connection Zinc sofa in Leather? I wanted to know if it scratches easily and if it has water marks from spills or do they wipe off easily?

MinesaPinot · 10/10/2017 14:10

ooh, we're looking for a new sofa at the moment to replace the crappy one we bought from Harveys 3 years ago and that looks lovely. Would love it in the leather but sadly it's too big for our space, but the 2-seater is fine - liking it in the teal and in the grey combination. We're in a 1900's cottage as well and looking round we seem to be aiming for a mid-century retro theme (actually without even thinking about it!).

How are you all getting on with it in the fabric - is it wearing ok?

asc1991 · 05/03/2018 10:19

Could I ask what you all paid for your Zinc sofa and which model.

I'm looking at the 4-seater which is £899 (was £799 last week). I was wondering how much they ever 'discount' this range.

Astrabees · 05/03/2018 13:34

We bought two yesterday (4 seater + 2 seater) in the Teal fabric with blue cushions and a matching footstool in the blue and white fabric that matches the cushions, for delivery the week after Easter. We paid extra for the fabric protection as we are very messy eaters and I would be living in fear of either of the DS drinking red wine on it if we did not. We have had our existing DFS sofas for 16 years so about time for a change. I was just relieved that DH and I found something that we both agreed looked nice and was right for the room, as there had been a substantial divergence of opinion prior to this. We live in a 1980's new build and we are getting rid of our hideous fireplace and replacing it with a new, very plain, one and painting the room with Farrow and Ball Vardo on the fireplace wall and probably Dulux Timeless on the other walls. The idea is to create an eclectic sort of room, as I have a Rose Wood desk in one corner and a table with an elephant base that we would never part with. I'm thinking of a mustardy yellow for the other accent colour and am hankering for mustard velvet curtains.

JayCee2012 · 24/10/2018 15:58

Adgwill - I know I’m late to this post but did you contact DFS about the bobbling, ours isn’t wearing well either and I wasn’t sure if it’s a fault with the material or just how it wears? (I’m hoping it’s not the latter!)

Mojo25 · 26/11/2018 17:45

Just about to buy Zinc 2 4 seaters in navy leather. Hoping to pair with some blush/copper/navy cushions and copper reading lamp. Bit concerned with a few people mentioning bobbling on seat pads and foot stool

Mojo25 · 01/12/2018 09:11

I’m thinking of navy leather as well and same accent colours. Love this cushion
