Are my lounge curtains hideous? (photos included)

Be honest, I can take it. They cost a fair whack due to the bay window, and I only bought them three years ago.

We're now shopping for new sofas, and are struggling to find anything to go with the curtains. It is then I realised I don't actually like them any more (not sure I ever did!) and would like to change them after getting new furniture.

Though God knows what I'd go for; I'm useless at these things Sad

Please help...

Sparkly have you seen the update?!Grin

Thanks wow and itslike - it really is super light and airy now (photo is dark due to shooting into the light with my crappy phone camera). Room feels so much bigger and fresher. Perfect for summer!

Trust me- the previous owners did not have more style than you do!

Looks lovely now, though. You made great choices Smile

I think the carpet looks lovely. I would personally get some cheap and cheerful IKEA curtains, possibly in red or burgundy. To the floor (they don't get particularly dusty if you hoover on a regular basis).

Oops, missed the update! Nice work, OP. Perhaps add a bit of colour with the cushions?

It looks much better and the curtains are lovely and light.

Have you considered mounting the TV on the wall above the fireplace? It saves a lot of space.
I think I'd go for a larger rug that's tucked under the sofa legs rather than one floating in the middle. But you have a lovely room either way

Ooh, MUCH better, OP, you must be pleased!

The blue cushions are fine, I always but my cushions 'square ' , not on the diagonal. Maybe get one more that is different and don't lay them out symmetrically.?

Thanks guys! We would get a larger rug, but obvs they're more expensive and after the sofas and other works we're having done, we can't really afford it. Plus our boys are 2 and 5, so if they have an accident or spoil it, at least it's only a £50 rug not a £500 one.

Good idea re: cushions. These are the ones which came with the sofas. Tbh after spending four long months sofa shopping, then finally deciding which one to get, which colour legs, which fabric etc the cushions were a bit of an after thought.

I thought wall-mounting tv's above fireplaces was deemed tacky?! Wink On a practical note though, we've imagined it and due to the height we'd get cricks in our necks pretty quickly (it's a 50").

The current curtains definitely need to be longer.

One thing I would suggest is that if the curtains have a pattern then the flooring, the walls and furnishings shouldn't. Don't have a patterned carpet and patterned curtains or a 'feature' wall with a pattern on it.

Eyelet curtains from Next even allowing for the bay window, it shouldn't be too expensive to get curtains that will fit the space.

What if you change ur wall colour to match the light yellow of the curtains.

Ooops. Didn't see the update from the OP as it wasn't highlighted. Your room looks lovely and bright with the new sofa. I quite like the new curtains puddling on the floor.

Long may you enjoy your new furnishings.

Blush That'll be a giant name-change fail right there then; apologies for the confusion!

Clive we're selling the old rug if you're interested?! Though it only costs £49 from IKEA (and the smaller version is only £39) here's a link rug

You could get them shortened to sill length - I don't think they are that bad.

You could add a piece of material to the bottom of the curtains to make them floor length on the side panels and just keep the blind in the middle. If you only have floor length curtains on the side windows and remove the middle curtain it will look fresher and more up to date. A local seamstress could do this relatively cheaply if you don't have a sewing machine or the skills.

Much better - love it!

I like duck egg blue cushions - can you tie in that colour anywhere else? Bok on coffee table, candles etc? Just keep the boys out of there now - small boys + cream = not cream anymore! Have T-shirt!

I got raw silk ones made for my bay window, they go to the floor but are decoration only, I never close them (have blinds) but they are a plain cream colour. I tend to stay away from patterns as I feel it restricts the rest of my choices if I want to update the room. They cost me £100 for the material and my mums mate sewed them for £50. I also stay with neutral colours that match most things. It's not everybody's cup of tea though and I don't have them over the window... That prob makes me weird tho
