Hi all I am currently decorating my livingroom and feel as though I have lost my way.......

It's painted in Timeless, we have the Ikea Kivik sofa in isunda grey, white/cream shaggy rug & a grey large light pendant. I currently have ikea aina curtains in white up but i think different curtains would make the room feel more finished. It also feels VERY white.

I ordered these from next, but they are to close to the colour of the sofa.

I've ordered some grey cushions 2 dark 2 light and some small yellow/mustard ones.

I really like these but am nervous about floral curtains so I'm throwing it to the mumsnet concensus. What do you think ladies?

Or is there something else that would look fabulous? Thanks in advance.

I like both sets of curtains. If you go for the floral ones, they will inject both colour and warmth, especially with the yellow/mustard cushions.

The pattern gives you options for accessorising too. What about also changing the rug for a yellow/mustard to match the curtains or at least adding some other accessories in the yellow?

Thelovecats · 12/03/2015 19:00

Geometric/scandi style cushions would look great, grey/Aqua/yellow colours. Like this Here or or this?

ilovehotsauce · 12/03/2015 21:44

That dunelm mill cushion is beautiful! Thank you! What is your opinion on the curtains? thelovecats

Ooh, I like the floral curtains!

It seems like there will be quite a lot of grey in the room, even with the floral curtains (no a criticism, just an observation) so I would steer clear of grey for any further accessories. Cream, gold, mustard (different shades to break it up) and maybe some aqua as suggested by the pp above could look great for cushions, throws, pictures etc.

Thelovecats · 12/03/2015 23:03

I prefer the plain grey actually :D Ehat about these here? Although I have no idea if the scandi thing would work in your room, just sounds like it from the description.

Mrsteddyruxpin · 12/03/2015 23:08

I love thhe floral curtains but would prob go for grey and add cuolour with cushions. Habitat have beautiful yellow ones and see lamps.

ilovehotsauce · 12/03/2015 23:29

Thank you for the feedback ladies problem is the grey are almost identical and the sofa is next to the window (it's also massive 300cm with a 220cm drop) I may get desperate tomorrow and post pictures!

Dh is not keen on geo/chevronSad We ideally want something that won't date really fast as we don't have a lot of spare cash and once we have finished we need to pump money into other roomsHmm.

So won't be able to swap out cushions curtains on a whim, I personally would like to soften the room. Our dining room leads off it (almost open plan) and is a massive space mostlying white (except massive toys) is south facing but feels lovely.

Sorry for the waffle! Very glad for the help! Can you tell we are FTB? Lol

I can't see any photos of the grey ones, but I think the floral ones look good, because of the the period of the house and the stained glass :)

Penguinotterfoxbadger · 14/03/2015 21:27

Floral ones look good, but do post pictures of the grey ones if you can

Karbea · 14/03/2015 21:43

You definitely need some colour and/or some different textures. It's really hard to do the all grey colour scheme without it looking dreary.
The yellow in the curtains is great as you can add interest.

this might give you some ideas of texture and colour.

Coumarin · 15/03/2015 04:59

I like the floral ones. Be interested to see the grey up too to compare. Love your sofa btw.

I read once that an ideal colour balance in a room should be 70/20/10.

70% your base colour so probably the walls, floor etc. 30% a secondary colour, maybe curtains, rug, and 10% in an accent colour.

You've got the 70/30 down perfectly, so a few little accessories in the yellow should do it. Or perhaps a rug as suggested. Obviously it's only a guide thing but I've found it useful as a starting point when decorating a whole room.

Layering textures and different sizes and designs of cushions always help make a room look more inviting imo.

ilovehotsauce · 15/03/2015 12:16

karbea I love this image! it's the reason I bought the sofaBlush. But there are no curtains in that room nor in anyothers I really like Sad.
Coumarin that's really helpful I hadn't thought of it like that.
Grey curtains will be popping up today and I will be going to get the dark grey cushions.

Thanks for the help lady's it already feels nicer with a print up. So we will see.

My first thought when I started reading your thread was mustard. We are about to do up our snug with greys and mustard. I am coveting a dark grey velvet sofa in Next and plan to give warmth with cushions and dark metal lanterns, clock, black picture frames.

Karbea · 15/03/2015 22:03

This fabric would make nice curtains.

nattie55 · 16/03/2015 12:22

Hi, the Ideal Home show starts Friday, great for ideas. I've brought a few gadgets there in the past, too many tempting goodies!!

There's a few competitions to win tickets online if you search. If I find any I'll add the link.

I really like the grey, but then I love grey! I think they show off the window more too and they won't date as quickly as the floral. Although I do get your point about them being the same colour as the sofa and think the answer could be even darker grey on the curtains...

ilovehotsauce · 18/03/2015 18:53

It feels very dark with the grey curtains so I don't think we should go darker. Surely I am being utterly ridiculous and picking curtains isn't this hard!

Currently I like the floral and dh likes the grey. Confused
