Dining ideas

We moved into our house last Christmas & were planning a conservatory as a dining room. We then bought furniture for the living room to not include anywhere to eat. The kitchen is small & could possibly have room for a bar table but not a proper table.
Funds are now that we can't afford the conservatory :( We have spent the year eating our meals off our laps. Ds has a little table & chairs in the kitchen.
I'm now regretting the sofas etc but too late to do anything with that. Any ideas oh wise creative ones?!

Might there be room for a little flap down, wall mounted table and stools in the kitchen?

There is 1meter wide by 1.4 meters long. The problem is when the integrated appliances are open they open out to around 60cm.

Is that the space where DCs table and chairs are now? What are the measurements of those?

It's a little round one in the corner (he's only 3).
Upstairs at mo so will check in a min. The upstairs has such lovely space as it goes over the garage but downstairs isn't great. Long term it needs a conservatory or the garage space used but god knows where all that stuff would go!

The little table is pushed into he corner & is 60cm & is round.

I've been spying on neighbours,as we all have same layout (new build). Everyone has a table & chairs in their living rooms. I'm now moving furniture around to see if it could work but it looks a bit cluttered. Most of the problem is that we have big individual pieces. Anyone good if I give room & furniture dimensions?

Certainly. Putting a mat under the table and chairs helps it look more compact helps the room as a whole more 'together'.

Oh, I always assume people have hard flooring - sorry. Not sure on using a mat on carpet, could be very odd indeed!

180cm with radiator cabinet.
90
380 alcove wall
450 longest wall has tv point.
Other wall is French doors which get used all the time.
I'll sketch it.
Furniture:
Sofa 160x110
Sofa 205x110
Chair 120x 110
Footstool 95x65
Tv cabinet thingy 160x60.
There are nest of tables but not bothered about these.

OK, great. How broad is the room and how much wall is there either side of the french doors?

The sides of the French doors are 80cm each side.
Widest point of room (into the alcove wall to straight long wall) is 400cm.

Could you put the smaller sofa into storage and get a small table in the corner by the door.

Looking at neighbours rooms,they have all put a table on the smallest wall as you enter which makes sense. One has their sofa in front of it splitting the room if it makes sense. I've just tried that,it felt quite packed!

We do like having a lot of sofa space for visitors. We like a sofa each in the evening Blush. I've always had a dining table & it feels a bit uncivilised to not have one! We have a large garden table which is nice in summer.

i was going to suggest the sofa splitting the room too, which did you try? Big or smaller?

I think to make it work you'll need to store the chair, at least, maybe the footstool too. Agree about keeping both sofas.

The smaller. Can't see the living room working.
Perhaps need to consider just what we could do with the kitchen. Just means we can't entertain nicely.

expensive but you get the idea I think ikea used to do something along these lines as well

This sort of table in the kitchen with folding chairs.......

Could also be used if entertaining in the dining room........

Then I'd go with a wee something in the kitchen, just for family use, yes. It sounds like you've spent quite a bit furnishing the sitting room as a single use room so it'd be a shame no to be able to enjoy that.

I rather like a sofa splitting a room but, yeah, not everyone does. Another option would be to put one of the sofas in front of the french doors, you'd need to leave quite a big space behind it though and it'd obviously block a certain amount of light (but, maybe the space behind that sofa could be a play corner).

Wonder if there is an extending gloss one that might fit in kitchen searching for the impossible. It's a cream gloss kitchen with sparkly black granite,cream tiled floors. Any gloss furniture seems to be white which would be ok in living room but there is now no bloody room.

this place might to cream gloss, maybe. Pricey though.

I'd go with black myself, with it being in the same 'department' as the worktops, IYSWIM.
