Just had a quote for shutters, how much do you reckon?

I was expecting about £3k in total I think.....

This is with quite a high end shop though, so wondering if there are cheaper alternatives that don't look cheap IYSWIM...

Seeing the quote for just curtains for my bay window was just under £1000 I'd expect 5-6k for that lot.

I've just had shutters fitted. One bay window and one flat window - just slightly over 2k. So I'd reckon somewhere between 5.5 and 6k for your windows.

I got mine from The House of Shutters, but other companies have been mentioned on threads here, such as Shutterly Fabulous, and The Traditional Shutter Company.

I was v naive I think... Thought it'd be more like 2-3k.

If you're in South East we had ours done by shutterly abulous - they look amazing and sounda like they'd be a fair bit cheaper.

Prob not as cheap as 2-3k though. Our one bay window was about £1350 but would have been £1150 if we'd gone for cheaper wood.

Not Thomas sandersons I hope? I had 2 floors of normal windows (9 windows) done for 4k. Thomas Sanderson quoted 11K for the same work.

That reminds me, flatmum, that also Hilarys Blinds have been mentioned for possibly over-quoting initially.

But apparently a neighbour chose Hilarys because she wanted a very particular colour which Hilarys matched for her. But that wasn't a consideration for me as I wanted plain white anyway.

hellohellohihi yeah that is a lot, get sone more quotes, try local companies with local people. Hillarys, John Lewis and Thomas Sanderson are extortiant - the also don't pay their agents very much (I speak from experience). If you're in the Thames Valley area pm me as I'm still in the business.

Second local companies. Don't touch the hard sell merchants with a barge pole. Thomas Sanderson spammed me night and day for weeks with phone calls as well.

We I used lifestyle shutters who are Sussex/Surrey no complaints whatsoever and they do custom colours

We used clement browne, and the guy from Hillary's said that was about right. Got another quote yet to come!

Ours are from Purely shutters. We went for basic mdf (2 companies who quoted recommended it being as good as anything). In white. 2 bay windows and a small window were just over 2k.

Sorry to hijack but i didn't think you could get shutters for bay windows. Gla d to see I'm wrong but I don't really see how they work. Do they just good back onto the wall as if it were flat?

Our bay is Victorian so has frames around each of the 3 bits of window? So as they are tier on tier each bit of window folds back.

Just had my last quote for shutters from Thomas Sandersons. OMG how do they calculate there costs. They quote was double to anyone else. So far Clement Browne & Purely Shutters are the most reasonable. Has anyone used either and would they recommended either.

We had one bay and one regular window. Hillarys quoted £1600 and wouldn't budge on their price. We got the local blinds man to come round and he quoted £1100. They're the solid wood ones. Although I think they do more expensive ones still.

We had all of our windows fitted with shutters and they look fantastic. Easy to clean which is great because our little one has astma.

I would recommend Love Shutters Uk who are based in Essex. Roddy who came to survey our house was down to earth and gave us a realistic price.

I actually work in the industry and you will find very little difference in the 'real' price that sales people sell at (or can sell) and in terms of quality your much better off having them fitted for you than DIY. I would say that as a reasonable rule of thumb your looking at £1000-£1200 for a Bay and £400-£800 other windows so above order would come in around £5-6,000. If you research online (as I have) you'll find that pricing is between £250 &£400 per sq metre for anyone other than TS and Kelly Hoppen I believe is charging a huge premium for putting her name to an imported product.
Get a couple of quotes but dont be sold to just take the advice and go with your gut, larger co's will be in a much better position to cover the cost of mistakes and Warranties!!!

Hey old thread i know !! But We just had shutters fitted by Woodys Shutters, which we found through facebook! Very good price and they use the same supplier as John Lewis but where over £800 cheaper than other two quotes!! fitted perfectly clean and tidy would recomm for service and price.
