Did you have a wonderful summer 2023 holiday?

And want to share?

We have a 15yo dd and had the best trip ever. 2 weeks in Thailand and cost about £7k - much more than we would usually spend but so worth it

and edited to say I meant 2023!

I don't think you mean 2024!

2024Hols · 25/08/2023 20:32

Ha ha! No you’re right, I’m planning for 2024!

We did a weeks cruise to the Norwegian fjords which was fantastic. Lovely and chilled and ideal for ds.

Thisismynewusername1 · 25/08/2023 20:33

was the time travel included in the 7k or was that extra 😂

2catsand2kids · 25/08/2023 21:41

Where abouts did you go in Thailand (and would you recommend), we’re thinking about a two week trip there next summer with our two kids?

We went to Roquebrun in the south west of France this summer, beautiful place and I’d recommend.

reluctantbrit · 25/08/2023 21:48

We went for two weeks to the US, Boston to New York with some days in Newport inbetween. Great time, exhausting and expensive but it was because of 2 significant birthdays.

Asia is on the list when we are not relying on school holidays anymore - 3 more years.

Back to s/c and a city break next year, we are currently looking at Berlin and another region in Germany.

We did Bangkok, Khao Sok National Park and Koh Samui. Would recommend 100%. We are not keen on sitting on a beach so it suited us perfectly

Ds x2 had a great (albeit very wet) week at Scout camp and ds1 is now away in west wales with a friend whose family have a second home down there.

Our family attempt at camping was a complete wash out!

we’re saving for somewhere with more reliable weather next year!

How old is your DS? DH wants to do this next year.

Went AI in Cyprus with DS, DIL and DGC - wonderful ten days of sunshine and family togetherness.

Babdoc · 25/08/2023 23:21

Had my first holiday for three years, after recovering from long Covid, in May.
Three night city break in Rome, then train to Civitavecchia to join a week’s cruise in the western Med, visiting the Cannes film festival, the leaning tower of Pisa, Lucca, Portofino, Ajaccio, Palma, then finishing up with a city break in Barcelona before flying home. Exhausting with all the sightseeing, but fabulous!

halope · 25/08/2023 23:26

We went to the Netherlands - Efteling, Amsterdam and Eurocamp. Efteling was lovely but Amsterdam felt underwhelming, and Eurocamp was OK but some logistics weren't great.

I'm itching to do something more adventurous next year but youngest will only have just turned 2 so may have to wait a bit.

Travelled around British Columbia (I live here, in the north). Took the ferry south (16 hrs) to Vancouver Island, spent a few days on our own with dog at a condo near Parksville, then stayed with DD and family near Victoria.
Another ferry to mainland to Okanagan area to visit SIL, she has lovely house with pool. Left just as forest fires were getting bad. 16 hour drive home to north but went inland route.

All in all lovely, but glad to be home.

We went to Mauritius for 10 days in June. Myself, DH , 2 dds ( 21 and 23) and 2 ds ( 16 Yr old twins) . Had wonderful holiday and weather was fabulous. Going to Orlando in October with DH and DS so looking forward to that now. Hate the wet, grey weather ( in West of Ireland)!

We spent a week in Alberta staying in Banff, Jasper and Lake Louise and week on Vancouver Island staying at Port McNeill and Tofino. Did a lot of hiking, white water rafting and surfing ( just the girls ). Had a very nice time, thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. It's our first time to Canada - what a nice country and people were lovely and helpful.

ProfessorLayton1 · 26/08/2023 04:53

We saw bears, whales and orcas on a bear watching tour from Port Mc Neil.

We went to Ischia for a week in May followed by a few days in Naples. It was marvellous. Did a boat trip to Procida and drank lots of Limoncello Spritzes on terraces. Fabulous food. Dd is back to Uni next month so we are going to Sicily for 10 days - Ortigia/Syracusa and Taormina. Sounds like there is loads to see. Hoping Etna behaves.

Radiodread · 26/08/2023 10:52

I did not have a wonderful summer holiday and it has made me determined to earn more money next year to enable it! I love my holidays and am really missing not being able to do them now on one income.

we did have a great sunny week in Germany earlier in the year though, which was economical and fun. I’d do that again.

but I’m being plagued by reels of beaches on Sardinia which is what I’d really like to do.

Cotswoldbee · 26/08/2023 10:54

Had the most fantastic time at Ourgate, can thoroughly recommend but don't want to be too specific in case it gets really busy. 🌞

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 26/08/2023 10:59

Yup, although much less exotic than most here. 5 nights in an apartment in Kreuzberg, Berlin. Massive hit with the teens - really fun and buzzy with lots to do. Could have easily done a fortnight without being bored. Flights and accommodation were pretty cheap, but slightly offset by our spending a good whack on museums and going out every night. Would totally recommend for teens who pull a face at the idea of holidaying with the family.

Silkiebunny · 26/08/2023 13:40

Having a wonderful holiday in Mauritius with 17 year old DD at Lomg Beach then Sugar Beach hotels. Been snorkelling to see corals and tropical fish and glass bottom boat ride, beach and lovely meals and cocktails today.

WhenIWasAFieldMyself · 26/08/2023 13:42

Yep. Hiking/sightseeing/chilling/eating fabulous food in Austria.
Much cheaper than I was expecting too.

I remember you from the excited-about-holidays thread - so you’re doing Ischia and Sicily in the same year? You have smashed it! Enjoy 🤩

Can you recommend the apartment? We look into going next year.
