any ideas? For once it doesnt need to be child friendly. Any ideas gratefully received am needing to get this booked for end of August. We live in south London and can get in any direction of M25 fairly easily.

Thankd everyone !

How much do you want to spend? This place was really good value, with a wonderful big pool and spa, and romantic restaurant and not too expensive.

They both look lovely, thanks! I don't have a specific budget a few hundred pounds (no more than £500) to include some spa treatments, evening meal, afternoon tea etc perhaps.

I'm going to have trouble keeping it a secret (and organising a Sat eve babysitter!)

It might be a bit further than you want to travel but Carey's Manor in the New Forest is lovely

I am crap with geography but we stayed here recently and it was lovely and affordable. The website is crap but I was VERY impressed with how lush it was.

Runnymede Hotel - Junction 13 of the M25

I have stayed or been to conferences at many of the above (and had wedding reception at The Runnymede) and like most of them. However This is my suggestion
www.chewtonglen.com/spa/ - take a look at the gallery - I like this one because it has a fabulous hydrotherapy area.
