Posting on behalf of DB who was originally going to Hawaii which ticked most boxes: -romantic, beautiful, exotic, but with a city so there's stuff to do.
Sadly it also ticks the Rather Expensive box so he's exploring other options, so I'd love to know what y'all got up to, MNers
TIA

Kenya. I got married at a small safari park, and then went on another short safari for a few days after the ceremony.

ShowOfHandsNoLongerKissesKunes · 29/04/2009 17:47

Scotland. Camping and youth hostels.

ilove · 29/04/2009 17:51

We did 4 days in London on our own, then home for a few days then a 2 week Baltic cruise with the children...it was absolutely brilliant!

MarthaFarquhar · 29/04/2009 17:55

posh hotel in Goa. Quite cheap as five star hotels go .

Vicky31 · 29/04/2009 18:21

Egypt. First Cairo for pyramids, then Hurghada for relaxing by the sea, then Nile cruise.

bruffin · 29/04/2009 18:29

2 weeks in the Maldives followed by a week touring Sri Lanka.

scienceteacher · 29/04/2009 18:29

We went to Ullapool.

Ivykaty44 · 29/04/2009 18:30

Hawaii - I really thought it was like Blackpool in the sun - sorry but I think your db has a lucky escape on that one.

troutpout · 29/04/2009 18:41

Barcelona on easyjet.
Later on went on expensive round the world trip.

TotalChaos · 29/04/2009 19:47

we took trains around Italy for a few weeks - stayed in Naples, Taormina, Palermo, Rome, Florence and Venice. It was amazing, would love to do it again.

A week hiking on the Amalfi Coast and then 5 days in Florence.

Amalfi COast - Totally romantic, wonderful food, glorious scenery - very Ripley-esque.
Florence - glamorous, arty and great shopping.

GossipMonger · 29/04/2009 20:06

PUGLIA in Italy - twas lovely.

georgimama · 29/04/2009 20:10

Lake Como. Was lovely.

ilikeyoursleeves · 29/04/2009 20:12

We got married in Raratonga in the Cook Islands (just the 2 of us) then went to NZ and toured it in a campervan then went on a road trip across West USA. It was amazing and since we didn't spend a lot on the wedding we got to do this great trip!

Island Hopping
Oahu - 5 nts. Car hire is a must to escape all the American & Japanese honeymooners.
Day trip to Hawaii - The Big Island
Maui - 4 nts
Kauai - 4 nts
San Francisco - 2nts (to visit old friends)
I would recommend a stopover of 2 nts in LA enroute and not to spend so many nights in Oahu, especially Waikiki which is extremely commercial. You will need at least 3 wks - it's a very long way away!

A fortnight's diving in Maldives was considerably cheaper.

Week in Bardolino on Lake Garda to relax (and drink wine), week in Venice for culture (although mainly were still knackered so relaxed on nice islands with icecream!).

Although the hotels round Garda only did Sat-Sat or Wed-Wed, so had 2 nights in Verona first. Took train and bus between the cities.

Can't wait until ds is old enough to enjoy it and we can do the same with him - both places are fab for small children.

verylapsedrunner · 29/04/2009 21:05

Cycling in Provence (by train via night in Paris). Luggage moved between hotels each day. Used Inntravel.

McDreamy · 29/04/2009 21:06

Mauritius - beautiful!

w0tzUp · 29/04/2009 22:39

Hotel Negresco, Nice, Cote d'Azur. With trips to Monaco and Italy. I love this part of the world have been back since and hope to visit again, it doesn't really matter which hotel you stay in there are many to choose from all along the coast.

w0tzUp · 29/04/2009 22:43

poshtottie
Just seen your post and couldn't agree more. We stayed in Eza Vista (with dcs) a few years after the Honeymoon and if I had the chance I'd love to stay in the chateau. Magnificent we went in for a snoop. Fantastic views.

I want to go now.

Coast drive San Fransisco to LA, started with a few days in SF (fantastic city) then took a week to drive down to LA stopping in all sorts of wierd and wonderful places on the way. Beautiful scenery. Couple of days doing theme parks in LA then home.
