DP and I are going to Ireland next week for the weekend, by ourselves, no children

We will get some use out of our caravan aswell we pay storage fees for it but never use the thing. If we don't use it this year we will get rid of it.
Can't afford to go abroad

malfoy · 11/02/2009 18:56

Where are you going ggirl? We are going to near Toronto, and then a week in Muskoka.

stardazzle · 11/02/2009 19:02

New York

Mintyy · 11/02/2009 19:07

Don't know yet. We really enjoyed our holiday in Brittany and the Vendee last year and had planned to do something similar this year. I'd really like to go to Normoutier (island a bit like the Isle of Wight off the West coast of France). But this Euro nonsense makes it impossibly expensive.

I don't want a long haul flight I don't want to go to a country that has the Euro as its currency, I do not want a beach holiday somewhere really hot and I definitely do not want to stay in the UK again.

Leaves me very little choice. Sorry for ramble. Might start a new thread.

brimfull · 11/02/2009 19:09

My family live there,in Dundas about an hr from TO.
Will also be going to my db's cottage. We are going end of July ..do you think flight prices will go down?

scienceteacher · 11/02/2009 19:13

I hope so. We have paid the deposit on the resort we are going to in Muskoka, but are holding off on flights. There are seven of us, of whom 5 are now classed as adults.

We are going to, and I seem to be organising, a massive family reunion at our family cottage in Caledon.

It's the worst year to do this exchange-rate wise, but you can't easily move an 80th birthday to another year.

brimfull · 11/02/2009 19:15

Yes exchange rate is a bugger.
My parents are ageing now so we need to be going there more often now and thus can't afford a hoiday somewhere else.Just hope the weather is nice..last summer was awful in canada

mousemole · 11/02/2009 19:18

dont know. Had a week in Lanzarote at New Year and it was SOOOOOOOOOOOOO expensive ( £50 for pizza for 3 and 4 soft drinks) because of rubbish exchange rate. So, think maybe Turkey ?

snigger · 11/02/2009 19:20

We're going to Bulgaria at the beginning of March.

The beer is a pound a pint ..

Hulababy · 11/02/2009 20:38

Going to New York for a week in May half term - was far cheaper than a week in a warmer European country too.

Hoping to go to Florida in the summer.

Maybe go away somewhere at Octber half term too - perhaps a cottage in Northern France.

waitingforgodot · 11/02/2009 21:04

Desiderata. Now you are talking. Whre in Bulgaria are you going?

BrownSuga · 11/02/2009 21:13

scienceteacher which is the resort in Muskoka if you don't mind me asking? I thought about a week there originally in the summer, but I think we'll be doing DH's suggestion of driving through New England. I'd like to store Muskoka away for future reference though.

Desiderata · 11/02/2009 21:26

Borovets, Godot. It will be cold in the mountains, (where we will be), but it's much warmer on the south side, so we'll be taking a few trips.

It was booked through LastMinute.com and it cost £747 in total for the three of us .. half-board . It's Thomsonfly, so even the meal on the plane is free!

And it's Inghams, who have no mean reputation.

smartiejake · 11/02/2009 21:31

We're going to Mallorca in April for a week with sil, bil and two nephews (Puerto Pollensa)Staying in a villa then in the summer hoping to go back to Luz-our favourite resort in Portugal (have been there five times)

scienceteacher · 11/02/2009 21:44

Brownsuga - the resort we are going to is called Clevelands House. BK, we went to a smaller resort on Lake Rosseau called Shamrock Lodge - it was pretty good, but they can't accommodate our family size.

Funnily enough, our last North American holiday was in New England - we went to Smugglers Notch in Vermont. We would have done the same this year, but the 8 or 9 hour drive from Toronto and back was too much.

Timbuktu · 11/02/2009 22:36

The Gambia
