Where in Lanzarote for a quiet family villa holiday?

mads1 · 06/09/2008 21:41

We are looking to go to Lanzarote in early December and wanted any advice on family-friendly resorts, villas or things to do?

We have a 3 yr old and 5 month old and want a 4 bed villa with pool near a sandy beach - and don't mind being a little away from "nightlife".

A nice quiet family holiday...

Thanks!

why 4 bed?

We stayed here in August and it was lovely. The pool is heated and has a fabulous cover for safety.

You would be about 8 minutes walk from Playa Flamingo which is lovely and it's quiet. The beach used to be really sandy here but it's rocky in the middle now but sandy at either end (and it's only small).

You can carry on and walk round to Playa Blanca itself but we only did so twice - it was a bit commercial for our liking.

we've stayed there and its great - only two bed though and you'd need a car.

In our one you could put both of your children in one room adn your mum in the other - £500 for the week in early Dec and it's available! Sob - wish I was going!

goobledigook - it looks fab!!! just need to show dh the pics and discuss!! thank you.

Mum might not be coming so would be perfect. couple of questions
a) what's the walk to the beach like? is it eas with a double buggy?

b) what's the night life like around the villa. is it quiet?

Nappy - have you been to all these places?????

OP posts:
nappyaddict · 07/09/2008 20:44

have been to all of the places but not all of the villas.

Gobbledigook · 07/09/2008 21:37

mads1 - there is no nightlife around the villa, it's all residential (I think there was one night where a nearby hotel had some music on but it didn't stay on late and it didn't bother us).

The walk to the beach is easy - yes, easily doable with a buggy. If you decide to go, walk to the end of the road the villa is on and turn right, then turn first left and you just follow that road to the beach past the Timanfaya Palace hotel. It honestly takes 5 minutes - the location is perfect and it's as near as you'll get in a villa as the properties between you and the beach are an apartment complex and hotel.

Gobbledigook · 07/09/2008 21:39

Any other questions just ask.

The owner is really friendly - I emailed him with questions and he was more than happy to answer and he even recommended a pre-bookable cab firm for the transfers and they were fabulous.

They have an agency looking after teh villa - the pool is cleaned every few days and the chap that cleans it is English so you can ask him very easily for anything you want to know. He is also very happy for you to call him any time on his mobile if you have a problem. His wife comes in to change the linen etc.

We stayed here in May.
About 1o min walk from nightlife.
Took dd 6 mth ds 6 and dd3.
Had lovely time.

Lilyloo · 07/09/2008 21:50

sorry
4 bed literally 5 min from beach
ten min walk either way on harbour to some nice restaraunts etc
about 20 min to more lively Playa Blanca
We did it with buggy and took grandparents
everyone enjoyed it

Thank you for the great info so far, Gobbledigook.

Sorry, more questions!

Is it an uphill/downhill walk from the beach to the villa (I looked on a map and it looks like M. Roja is up a hill?).

And ... what about buying baby stuff in Lanzarote? Nappies (Pampers!), formula, wipes.

you can get it all but it is more expensive. how long are you going for? i took a weeks worth of nappies (i took a pack of 40/50 plus a few extra in the changing bag). i split them between the 3 cases so they didn't add to the weight much.

Gobbledigook · 07/09/2008 22:06

The walk is flat. There is one tiny bit that is on a hill at the very end of the 'promenade' as it meets the road - not that you'd notice and it would honestly not be a problem for you.

We didn't need baby stuff as our youngest is 4 now, but I did see all the stuff you'd need in the supermarket (and the appts around Playa Flamingo were full of families with small children so you would expect the supermarkets to be well stocked). The supermarkets right in Flamingo are quite expensive but if you walk 5 mins further on to the commercial centre there is a Spar which has everything you need.

Are you on Facebook?

mads1 · 07/09/2008 22:18

Thanks again!

We're looking at 2 weeks so that's a lot of nappies!

Trying to decide between Amatris and Flamenco; oh what a hard decision!

I'm not on Facebook sorry. Should I be?

You guys have been very helpful, thanks!

M

i would probably take as many as you can fit in and then if you need more buy them.

Gobbledigook · 07/09/2008 23:04

No, it's just that I'm on FB and my holiday photos are on there so if you added me as a friend you'd see them.

Gobbledigook · 07/09/2008 23:04

God, I am sooo jealous...

mads1 · 12/09/2008 07:21

hi gobbledigook. Just to let u know, we've booked the villa!

Just stayed at the Playa Flamingo - it is a Thomson Family resort which is why it is full of children and families! There is a lovely little park with slides if you walk further up the hill past the entrance to the chinese restaurant

When our DD was still in napies we didn't bother packing the nappies - we wrapped a pack in brown paper, tied some string round it and sent it through with the rest of the checked in bags. Check with your airline if they charge for number of bags or by weight.
