How family friendly is it?

Is it like a mini Blackpool?

Is it full of tat shops?

The part we saw was not like Blackpool at all. Think more like a Cornish resort, not as brash as Newquay but not quite as gentile as Padstow ! Whereabouts are you looking to stay as a couple of the package complexes are a long way out of town.

Fimbo · 19/08/2008 09:55

I have managed to find a nice villa through Hoseasons which is 10 mins walk to the centre of town. It has been reviewed by an English couple recently and they were full of good reports for it.

We went to Menorca this year and the resort we were in was terrible, dh wants to make sure we don't make the same mistake again.

Thank you Liz.

I have stayed in the Pine Walk district in Puerto Pollensa and it was wonderful... (although was approx 8 years ago)

It more of a family and old people resort tbh which suited us (even before we had DD) ..

Has enough restaurants to find exactly what you are after, but not too many to make it too loud.

Has a lovely market at least once a week.

Beaches nice and shallow etc.

Would definately recommend PP

Fimbo · 19/08/2008 10:04

We are definately in the old people resort camp! Thank you Heifer and Ruby.

I will tell dh we are going ahead with the booking!

can you do a link to the villa please? I am interested myself for next summer/easter...

mumto2andnomore · 19/08/2008 10:15

Its lovely, we go every year. Not Blackpool at all, Alcudia is like that, the next resort along.

Lots of restaurants, family friendly, lovely beach. The pine walk is great to stroll along at night and people watch. Some of the restaurants are right next to the beach so the children can play on the beach while you watch them.

Cant do links but there is a website www.puertopollensa.com which will tell you more.

Fimbo · 19/08/2008 10:16

I will when I have booked it as I want Easter myself!

Puerto Pollenca is such a lovely resort.

Heifer · 19/08/2008 10:22

LOL fair enough..

I wouldn't have been that quick anyway.... Need to make sure I get a job when DD starts school before we can commit to a holiday!

Another company I have used for villas is

james villas

Fimbo · 19/08/2008 11:05

Thank you everyone.

Heifer sorry if I sounded snippy btw! .

I am torn between just going ahead and booking it or waiting until dh comes home when he'll dither about it and ask 40 million questions.

I could phone him at work but he had just gone back today after 2 weeks off and is working his way through 376 emails!

What didn't your DH like about your previous visit..?

Was he hoping to go somewhere completely different next time?

Did he have somewhere in mind?

If not, then just book it!

Heifer · 19/08/2008 11:26

And you didn't sound snippy at all!

Fimbo · 19/08/2008 12:24

Hi Heifer,
We went to Menorca with Thomson's - we had been before to a quiet resort with just one street. The resort we were in this year had Karaoke bars, bars with large inflatables for the children etc, loads of tourist tat shops. Just such a contrast from our previous visit. We went back to the place we were at last time and even my dc want to stay there.

I want to go and book but feel so underhand although he probably wont mind as I have done plenty of research now and mumsnetter say it's nice!

It is lovely and family friendly. There is a lovely main square with restaurants all around for the evenings.

mcfee · 19/08/2008 12:31

Loved Puerto Pollensa last year, this year going to Menorca....what resort are you talking about? You're going to say Son Bou aren't you....????

Heifer · 19/08/2008 12:31

Yes I hated Menorca the one and only time we went (when pregnant with DD). We stayed in a complex for the first time and quite frankly we will never ever stay in any size complex ever again!

A villa or apartment in Puerto P is FAR removed from what you experienced in Menorca.. honestly..

BOOK IT - and then send me the link...
Although I would take a look at other options in PP and not book the first villa you see..

Heifer · 19/08/2008 12:32

whoops crossed posts with Mcfee.. sorry....

KateF · 19/08/2008 12:34

We were there for two weeks in June with dds aged 8,7 and 4 and it was lovely. We were at the other end from the Pine Walk but there is a bus which only takes a few minutes. Lovely beach for children and a little playground under the pine trees-would go back for sure.

Fimbo · 19/08/2008 12:38

Lovely big thumps up for PP then!

Thank you all.

McFee it was Cala N'Forcat/Los Delphines (two resorts run into one).

I went for a day trip to Son Bou, whilst not quite my cup of tea it does supposedly have a very nice beach (we didn't venture that far), it's definately not as bad as the resort I mentioned. I think Sparklygothkat may have been to Son Bou and liked it.
