Holiday dilemma

We're off on a 4 day break to Tenerife in February. I feel that might be a bit too short even though we have an early flight out and late one back. I can extend it to 5 nights for the same price but in a slightly lower standard of accommodation (flight times the same). Shall I stick with the 4 nights in the nicer apartment or get an extra night in a more basic one?

I prefer quality over quantity
depends what’s important to you

dynamitehee · 06/10/2026 09:24

I’d go for an extra night, you don’t spend much time in the accommodation so as long as it’s clean it’s fine for us. Depends if there are less facilities you’d use available or if one hotel is in a better spot.

LittleMonks11 · 06/10/2026 09:24

Stick with the nicer apartment or extend that one. Life’s too short.

pavementpolice · 06/10/2026 09:32

It's the same hotel and unfortunately we can't extend the nicer apartment as there's no availability. I would have definitely done that if I could. I'm dreadful at making decisions haha. I'm worried we'll regret changing the accommodation once we get there...but on the other hand regretting not booking the extra night once we've done night 4 😂

I'd go for the extra night in the more basic accommodation, but then I'm not fussed by quality as long as basic requirements are met.

LittleMonks11 · 06/10/2026 09:37

Can you stay in nicer place for 4 nights and just shift into other place for last night?

LittleMonks11 · 06/10/2026 09:38

I’m very fussed about accommodation quality and can get very Veruca Salt about a crappy room I’ve paid hard earned cash for!

backformoreofthesame · 06/10/2026 09:42

Me ? I’d have the extra night but that’s because I see the room //accommodation as a place to sleep and not part of the holiday - as long as it’s clean and functional

indeed I would resent spending money on things that seem to make accommodation “deluxe” - a bit more space, some foul decor ?

pavementpolice · 06/10/2026 09:43

I don't think moving rooms would be an option but a good suggestion. I think this one might come down to a coin toss 😂. A bit more context is the nicer accommodation is bigger, is a duplex and has a garden area with sunbeds, 2 bathrooms and welcome gifts. The lesser accommodation is a one bed apartment with balcony. Both the same levels of cleanliness and air con etc. just myself and DH going.

I’d go with the nicer place for 4 nights, the extra day won’t really give you much but the apartment you’ve chosen sounds lovely.

VictoriaEra · 06/10/2026 10:04

Another vote for nicer place

OffTheMap · 06/10/2026 10:19

For 2 of you you don’t need 2 bathrooms!

Depends how much you would use the garden and sun beds

And you are feeling that 4 nights is a bit short… It doesn’t sound as if the smaller room is worse in terms of bed comfort etc, just less space.

Personally I never spend much time in the accommodation on holiday, I go for the country, the beach, the sightseeing etc, not the hotel room.

pavementpolice · 06/10/2026 12:40

This is true.....and being February we may not use the outside space that much. DH is opting for the 5 nights. I'm still on the fence haha

Right have changed my mind. Go one more night in lower grade!

purplecorkheart · 06/10/2026 13:11

What is the weather normally like in February there. That would be a factor for me but I think that I would probably go for the five nights.

Toastietoastie · 06/10/2026 13:15

I'd go for the extra night...sod the welcome gift lol

Makebelieveanotherlife · 06/10/2026 13:16

Wouldn’t you have to pack up to move all for just 1 day. I would rather just leave it at 4 days

SunnyRandal · 06/10/2026 13:19

To Tenerife it's a 4½ hour flight plus 2 hours check in plus travel to airport and transfer to resort. I wouldn't go for less than a week but I do live two hours from a UK airport.
I'm sure you would use outside space, it should be warm and sunny during the day, not boiling but like a nice day in May here.

SoThatsTheWayItIs · 06/10/2026 13:20

We did 4 nights in Fuerteventura last December and it felt like enough time. It wasn't a main holiday just a nice little winter break. I would stick with the nicer room but I'm a bit fussy! Also if your are unlucky enough to have bad weather you have a nice place to hang out. You've got good flight times so personally I wouldn't change anything.

Nocameltoeleggingsplease · 06/10/2026 13:22

5 night gets my vote

NameChangeScot · 06/10/2026 13:35

Nicer accommodation.

Although I find Tenerife is quite a long flight for just 4 or 5 days.

elperil · 06/10/2026 13:43

Your DH is happy with 5 in the lesser (to you) accomm. That would be my mind made up for me anyway without having to dither!

Five nights is perfect, four is not enough. Accomm is secondary (to me) as long as it's convenient and not out in the sticks, clean, with at the very least a balcony, that's me sorted!

Go for the five nights and enjoy the longer break. You won't remember the accomm much, but you will remember the great time you had!

purplecorkheart · 06/10/2026 13:45

The welcome gift is more than likely a fruit basket/dessert/cheap bottle of plonk. I don't it is anything major.

rookiemere · 06/10/2026 13:50

Tenerife is a long distance for 4 nights, getting through passport control takes a bit of time now as well. I would go for 5 nights, you don’t need a huge amount of room for just the two of you.

pavementpolice · 06/10/2026 13:52

I've extended 😁. The free gift was wine and chocolates but I'll just buy these myself at the shop when I get there so I don't feel I'm missing out haha. I think I've done the right thing taking into account the travelling time. I'll just make sure I look the other way when we're walking past the villas with gardens!
