Cape Verde honeymoon

Thinking of booking Cape Verde in early November for our honeymoon. Has anyone been here before? We've been looking at the Santa Maria area in Sal, specifically the Riu Palace hotel. It seems to be around 5k for 10 nights all inclusive, that's with a swim up pool room. Any advice or suggestions are really appreciated.

People have died everywhere …

@Springbuck if you’re going to Sal go see the lemon sharks that was really good

We went to CV in the summer holidays and had a great time so if anyone is put off by reading this it’s not all bad reviews !

Thank you for sharing your experience, which hotel did you stay at? We're going to look at other places for our honeymoon after so many people saying it's not good.

I Would be very concerned about the lack of medical care in the island and poor reports thereon.
i went there around 2010. The beaches were beautiful, the riu hotel was nice. There have been a lot of food poisoning reports mure recently though.

try Mexico. Nice in November.

Can do 10 days in Caribbean for £5-7k, out of hurricane season too!

I'll take a look at places, thank you for the suggestion.

No, just Google the issues people have had. Asia or Indian ocean or carribean are lovely then - all better choices. Mexico (Yuctan) AI is affordable and great quality with excellent trips.

Thank you for the suggestions, will be doing a lot more research on places in the next few days.

Not anywhere I’ve been on holiday of food poisoning though - what a stupid comment
there is a class action lawsuit currently against TUI

You could easily do 10 nights in the Maldives for this sort of money, and November is a great time for the Indian Ocean. Don’t do CV!

Would love to go to the Maldives, we only quickly looked at Cape Verde holidays as someone had suggested it today and said that it was lovely for a honeymoon.

We went to the Sol Dunas in the family hotel part I think the other side is called Melia Dunas a bit posher and more for adults.
Didn’t hear of anyone getting sick obviously doesn’t mean it didn’t happen elsewhere on CV

Pebbles16 · 27/09/2026 21:16

Cape Verde is beautiful if you stay off the resorts. But November is not a good time to visit.
I feel so sad that people dismiss an entire holiday location based on TUI experiences, A resort is not a country.

Kestonlodge · 28/09/2026 14:59

If you are getting married in Cyprus as mentioned thread… why not have your honeymoon in Cyprus? SO much nicer than Cape Verde

AttilaTheMeerkat · 28/09/2026 19:24

Go somewhere else.

Cape Verde is underdeveloped as a tourist destination and there have been multiple cases of food poisoning leading to tour operators being sued in the courts. It also has very limited medical facilities on the island

Justtryingthis · 28/09/2026 19:33

Awful place. Wouldn’t go back if you paid me.

PinkEasterbunny · 28/09/2026 19:40

The Maldives is a million times better than CV

SparkleRoses · 28/09/2026 19:42

My sister went there and loved it, she wanted us to go back but I have children and I didn’t like the sound of it it sounded too deserted and nothing to do around, she also said that the sea was very rough but she did love it so not everyone hates it

Buynow · 28/09/2026 21:37

It's not just the sickness, which is Shigella virus not regular food poisoning, it's the fact that there are no medical facilities. If you are unlucky enough to be seriously ill with anything, they have to medevac to the nearest hospital which is Tenerife. So airlifted.

Very weird

February @Howabsolutelyfanfuckingtastic starts a thread about being newly single and getting back out in to the dating world

April @Howabsolutelyfanfuckingtastic is engaged and getting married in Cyprus

September asking about honeymoons in Cape Verde

all seems like a bit of a whirlwind

have you got nothing better to do ?

AgnesMcDoo · 28/09/2026 22:26

Cape Verde is nice if all you want to do is lie by the pool.

There’s nothing else to do. But if AI and sun bathing is your thing go for it.

Howabsolutelyfanfuckingtastic · 29/09/2026 14:36

We are looking at other countries, I wouldn't risk it with the food poisoning cases and lack of medical care. It's also nice to go out and explore somewhere but it sounds like that's not really possible in Cape Verde. Thank you all for your suggestions. We really love Cyprus but we want somewhere different for the honeymoon.

Agreed, I thought it was very strange to look back at my past theads when I was just asking about a honeymoon destination!

Some people have too much time on their hands! This is one reason why I name change regularly

Already booked the lemon sharks, that’s actually our main reason for wanting to go there.
