Holiday nightmare

I had food poisoning in Egypt the last few days I wanted to go see the pyramids with my nine year old who refused to see it. I feel really depressed about not seeing the pyramids. Leaving in less than 2 days apart of me feels selfish that depressed over it.

Why are you letting a 9 year old tell you what to do?

Leo800 · 29/08/2026 15:22

You should have gone to see the pyramids. You can’t let a nine year old dictate what you do.

Overthebow · 29/08/2026 15:28

Go see the pyramids tomorrow, 9 year old comes with.

If you're well enough to go see the pyramids then just go do it.

Crankyallday · 29/08/2026 15:31

Please don't leave Egypt without seeing the bloody pyramids!

Cakeandcardio · 29/08/2026 15:33

Surely it's not the 9 year old's choice?

Naurrr · 29/08/2026 15:36

The prospect of a road trip and queuing and climbing around inside the sweltering, airless pyramids with food poisoning doesn't seem super appealing. 😬

SpottyPyjama · 29/08/2026 15:42

You are an adult and your child is 9. See the pyramids.

One of the wonders of the world - Pyramids

I have an 8 year old and a 5 year old. 5 year old had zero interest in seeing Roman ruins. We saw them, and I loved them. Holidays aren’t just about the kids!

Exactly this.

One of my DC had no interest in seeing the recent solar eclipse (through the correct glasses of course) and preferred to stay in his room playing computer games.

I insisted that he come upstairs twice for a few minutes to at least have a quick look.

My DCs sometimes complain that they don’t want to do this or that on holiday. I always tell them that forcing children to visit attractions they don’t care about is a family tradition 😉

This. The only discussion I would be having, is what time we would need to be getting up to leave, for said excursion. I should add, not having to take any ND into consideration, of course.

Pinkgin00 · 29/08/2026 16:09

Was your main reason for going to Egypt to see the pyramids? If you feel better, you absolutely should go . Holidays are for everyone to enjoy, your child shouldn't a choice in this.

The whole part of Egypt is to see the pyramids. If you’re in a hotel can you leave your kid in the kids club and go and see them. You need to see them

ToadRage · 29/08/2026 16:23

You can't go to Eqypt and not see the pyramids. What a waste?

purpleme12 · 29/08/2026 16:29

Yes why couldn't you just tell the 9 year old and make him go?

Of do it with him before you leave

My parents were similar when I was a child and now looking back, I’m actually really glad they forced me to do cultural and historical things that they also wanted to do - with hindsight they were actually really lovely, wholesome, family days out and I may have even learnt a thing or two!

canuckup · 29/08/2026 16:45

A nine year old doesn't refuse

SummerInSun · 29/08/2026 16:50

Agree with all PP. Also, if you don’t force him to go, in a few years he’ll be saying “mum why didn’t you take me to see the pyramids when we were in Egypt?” I’d tell him this is a very specially experience for you, and something you’ve wanted to do your whole life, and it means a lot to you to have him with you, and in families we do things like this for one another and therefore he is coming. That might be more effective than trying to persuade him that he will like them.

amber763 · 29/08/2026 16:50

Why is your 9 year old dictating your holiday. Tell him hes going and thats that

4Tornot4T · 29/08/2026 16:56

You must see the pyramids if you're feeling well enough. Your 9 year old will probably enjoy seeing them too. They'll probably end up being the highlight of his trip- they are incredible.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 29/08/2026 16:58

Did you ask ai to write your OP? It reads oddly. Surely you can decide for yourself whether or not you are going to see the pyramids. If you are in Cairo already, it's no distance.
