Best hotel in Scotland ?

Would love to experience more of Scotland outside of Edinburgh and Glasgow. Can anyone recommend good & luxury hotel suitable for families? We’ve been to Gleneagles (v good) - is there anywhere else similar vibe we can try?
Currently looking at Fife Arms.

Cameron House fits the bill. Luxury feel
and loads for children to do. Stunning location as well.

Nothing beats Gleneagles for me though.

I'm going to the Fife Arms on Sunday. Can't wait. We enjoyed Glenapp Castle last year. I'm not keen on Gleneagles.

A bit of a wildcard, but Ashtree House in Paisley? I'd do that for a couple of nights followed by a couple in the Tontine in Greenock. I've stopped in both, and the breakfasts were superb, both had a lovely atmosphere too.

Would love to hear what you think of the Fife Arms

i would add the Old Course Hotel, St Andrews and the Three Chimneys in Skye

Our go to for various areas with children are Gleneagles, The Balmoral, Cameron House, The Fairmont in St Andrews and One Devonshire Gardens. Schloss Roxburghe limits when children can use the swimming pool (1hr in the morning and only if you stay in the hotel not a cottage) but does have a lot of child friendly activities including a kids club on our last stay but I believe it may have closed.

I have just had two nights at the Fife Arms and as promised I am reporting back for @LdnRenoWe had a fabulous time as two adults in our 60s but I certainly wouldn't have brought children there. There is no pool, grounds to play in or really any child focussed activities. The hotel is right on a main road with no dedicated parking. We got a space right outside which was lucky.

The interior of the hotel is fantastic and defies description modern Victorian is the closest I can get. It is stuffed with art works both modern and ancient. The attention to detail is astonishing. All the room are different. Ours had hand painted walls with a forest landscape. Lots of nice bits and pieces in the room and all drinks and snacks they leave are free. The food in the Flying Stag pub was great. Is very much seen as a community pub. I wasn't as keen on the fancy restaurant. The breakfasts were very good. The staff could not have been more attentive.

Braemar itself is small but immaculately beautiful. We walked along to Braemar castle and did the tour. We also went and looked at the site of the Braemar gathering. There are nice wee shops to potter around and cafes. Ballater is a bigger town and was lovely for a wander around.

If you like outdoors sports it's all there on your doorstep.

We loved our stay. Two nights was just enough. It was a special anniversary/birthday treat for us as it is expensive!

in short I would say to go for a special adult break but don't take your children!

The Torridon does lots of activities suitable for older children. Amazing setting too.

I know of many lovely hotels but none that are both child friendly and luxury. My dc did love going to the aviemore area activities wise but the hotel we used got seriously downgraded to cheap and nasty

We stayed here with two teens - it’s not super luxury but very nice and comfortable. There’s a great games room which the kids liked - snooker, pool, skittle alley, table football, table tennis etc.
Theres a small pool / spa / sauna / steam room. Kayaking on the loch, paddle boarding etc.
There are squash courts, a gym, and climbing wall.

Easy access to lots of walking, forests, loch side views etc.

Theres v little else there apart from a small village so you’re basically eating in the hotel every night - food was good though. One other hotel in the nearby village where you can also eat, and a couple of small cafes for during the day.

Lots of room to relax in lounge areas downstairs with board games, chess etc.

Although, I have not stayed at the Fife Arms ( out of my price range) , we usually have lunch there once or twice when we stay near Braemar every year. I also knew the Hotel before it was done up. I have hardly ever seen any children there but this might be because we visit in term time.
How old are your children and what do you want to do while you are there? We stay in the area because we like to walk, usually starting out from the Linn of Dee.

I do think the Fife Arms is over hyped. While it may have wonderfully decorated rooms, it does not have grounds to walk around in and as pp said, it sits next to the road. I guess that the owners have given away free stays to celebrities and influencers to keep it in the news.
