Where to holiday in October half term? Would love beach/heat

Getting a small inheritance soon and would like to take DH and teens away in October half term. We are not going away anywhere else this year. I’ve done a bit of googling and read reviews, the weather is a mixed bag and that’s what I’d love to be able to “guarantee” in order to have a beach holiday. Budget £6k.

If you’ve been away in Oct (last week of October) please could you recommend the country/area? Ideally 25 degrees plus in the day time. Happy to be adventurous about the location.

Thanks

Canaries for the closest guaranteed (almost) sun weather. We’ve had nearly 30 degrees most days. Other options would be Egypt or Morocco. I’ve been to Türkiye and that’s been a bit less consistent.

The Canaries or north africa. Personally I'd go to the Canaries.

Last minute deal to Florida?

zurigo · 22/07/2026 16:37

If you want Europe then Canaries/Cyprus, although the latter can be either amazing or a bit cooler and possibly rainy. I mean, the Canaries you can never be 100% sure either, but Tenerife or Gran Canaria are pretty weather sure.

Further afield - Florida, Dubai, Oman, Egypt should all be warm and sunny.

It's still hurricane season. Friends had a great experience in hurricane shelters when they went.

@ToniAndCalm
We went to Cyprus and Lanzarote end of October. In both cases hot but also a day of rain and clouds so in Europe nothing is really that secure. It's also worth checking if resorts are starting to shut down, some resorts we looked at had already reduced restaurant offers.

You might be lucky in Canaries, Cyprus, Turkey but it could be 20c.

Egypt, Dubai, Oman are a bit more certain for 25c.

Barbados, St Lucia, Aruba are all v unlikely to be impacted by hurricanes will be at least 25c.

I’ve done Disney loads of times during October half term. Never had a problem 🤷‍♀️

When the DC were at school we used to go to Barbados in the October half term.

ToniAndCalm · 22/07/2026 21:22

Lots of great ideas here, thanks so much! Canaries was the main one where the weather seems a bit less reliable so it’s good to see there are some ok reviews here. I like the idea of Barbados or Cyrus - hadn’t thought of them. Will go and do some more research.

We've been to Antigua in October half term, it was lovely.

Parcelpass · 22/07/2026 21:35

Mexico or Jamaica I would be looking at long hauls.

MinnieCoops · 22/07/2026 21:37

October in Cyprus can be rainy or it can be glorious. It’s a funny one. I would go to Oman for guaranteed sunshine then.

WhereAreWeNow · 22/07/2026 21:41

We had lovely weather in Sicily in October half term but I don't know if it's a sure thing that it will be hot then.

7238SM · 22/07/2026 21:46

DH and I don't have children, but often travel to Europe in Oct or early Nov (not half term though). We spent 2 weeks in Sicily in Oct one year. Still warm enough to swim in the sea and walk around in shorts/T-shirts. Cefalu has been recommended many times on MN since our trip, but we never went there.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 22/07/2026 21:46

Mauritius

CrikeyMajikey · 22/07/2026 21:48

Agadir, Morocco. Only 4 hours from UK.

Firefliesdancing · 22/07/2026 22:02

We loved Malta and Seville…a few years ago we were very lucky and my PIL treated us to the Bahamas for a surprise trip. It was the most amazing trip and one we’ll never be able to afford but we had the best time, we went for ten days we had to take the kids out of school but was worth it.

Parcelpass · 22/07/2026 23:05

For 1 week. I personally wouldn't do long haul. Egypt will be hot.

watchingheroesagain · 23/07/2026 00:41

Not Mauritius! I went in October and it wasn’t really hot- It’s like spring over there in October. Egypt was perfect though!

Have you paid Mumsnet for the three ads you've posted over the last few days for your tool @90br1?

FallenNight · 28/07/2026 11:32

We have done canaries in the October half term for the last few years. Swum in the sea daily, in the pool, never had an issue with the weather. Maybe a little cooler in the evening, but still summer dress and maybe a light shoulder covering.

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 28/07/2026 11:33

Morocco in places like Agadir, very family friendly

TeamGeriatric · 28/07/2026 19:12

I would see if your budget can stretch to the Carribbean, this would be my preference if you can manage it. As others have said Barbados is a lower hurricane risk than say Jamaica or Dominican Republic at that time of year. You have more options if you would be flying out of London, as Manchester flights typically are only to those 3 places plus Mexico. Mauritius usually would be out of your budget, but you can price it up. I am not sure what I would pick out of canaries and Egypt, I think Egypt is proper warm at that time of year, but you are kind of confined to the hotel and close to the unrest in ME which may or may not be ongoing. Whereas canaries you can get out and mooch around the resort with no concerns but it can have a real Brits abroad feel where you could be absolutely anywhere, doesn't feel Spanish in my experience. There is a person on here who raves about the culture in Lanzarote, maybe it exists somewhere.

Anothernameretired · 28/07/2026 19:16

Been to Cyprus a few October half terms and it was fabulous!

Cooler in the evening but fabulous for beach all day.

bk1981 · 28/07/2026 19:33

We've done Mallorca and Sorrento then. Both were more low 20s and Mallorca had the odd bit of rain or cloud. Neither were quite sunbathing weather but perfect for exploring.
