Where to holiday in October half term? Would love beach/heat

Getting a small inheritance soon and would like to take DH and teens away in October half term. We are not going away anywhere else this year. I’ve done a bit of googling and read reviews, the weather is a mixed bag and that’s what I’d love to be able to “guarantee” in order to have a beach holiday. Budget £6k.

If you’ve been away in Oct (last week of October) please could you recommend the country/area? Ideally 25 degrees plus in the day time. Happy to be adventurous about the location.

Thanks

Canaries possibly Cyprus, I’d book close to going once weather is forecasted

BasketCaseBug · 28/07/2026 21:07

Egypt or Tunisia would be hot. We are going to the Dominican Republic in October, didn't realise when I booked that it's hurricane season.

Phonicshaskilledmeoff · 28/07/2026 21:09

I’ve done turkey twice which was pretty good.

Happytap · 28/07/2026 21:29

Seychelles or Sri Lanka

ToniAndCalm · 30/07/2026 14:28

Thank you for the ideas! Much appreciated 🙏

Dubai or Aruba (outside the hurricane belt)

Lordofmyflies · 30/07/2026 20:27

I'd look at a 5* in Malta. Shortish flight, still hot and a bit of luxury

I’ve done Disney loads of times during October half term. Never had a problem 🤷‍♀️

Until the year it gets flattened. It’s hurricane season, doesn’t mean it will, doesn’t mean it won’t.

Offherrockingchair · 30/07/2026 22:55

True, still a risk I’d take!

Certainly recommend Tenerife i have been there a number of times, its a great place to take your family or if you sre going solo.
I personally like playa Adeje. It has a nice beach and the sea is calm, lots for the family to do with bars and cafe for evening relaxation.
Playa Americas for more nightlife and bars, good if you have someone to look after your kids. If your just going on your own with kids that may be to busy at night.
Maspolomas has some lovely dune areas where you can relax a bit away from the crowds of places like Americas but does get breezy during the afternoon where the sand does blow about at times the sea is a little more rough. If your a naturist like i am it is a great place to visit, ive been there a number of times and would certainly go again. You can certainly relax there

Egypt and Tunisia i find the local men dont leave you alone. I find it quite frustrating not being able to relax on a beach without men constantly staring at you

We are going to Thailand at October half term, longer flight but cheaper than the canaries and fancied a change from Egypt.

I may be the exception but I didn't like Tenerife. Our hotel was actually great, but I hate the black volcanic sand which makes everything dirty. It wasn't even properly hot during July/August when we were there, so can't imagine it being hot in October.

Not everywhere has black sand

I hated Tenerife, we made a huge mistake booking one of the popular resorts and it was filthy and full of horrible brits smoking everywhere. I would never return, never seen so many discarded cigaratte butts in my life.

This. And in the off chance you do have to evacuate, it's a mess because everyone will be heading in the same direction. Orlando is also a bit different in that it's where a lot of South Floridians evactuate TO during a hurricane evacuation. But OP seems to be looking for a beachy area. That said I'd still pick FL over a caribbean island that time of year because you can at least get in the car and drive if needed. I know people who were stranded in the USVI during Irma and it was pretty bad.

I like the Thailand idea!

Many years ago we has friends caught up in a hurricane while on holiday in Florida. It was definitely not fun!

Aruba is a Carribean island outside the hurricane belt though, so safe to go to all year round.

somewhereintheworld · 04/08/2026 11:59

We went to Madeira in November one year and it was a perfect temperature. It's a lovely place 😍

sunshinehappydays · 04/08/2026 12:00

Have you thought about Dubai? We went with teen DS and absolutely loved it. Loads to do and the hotels are fab. The water park is the best in the world. Can do Top Golf, skiing, shopping in the huge malls or just ogle at all the super cars. Or spend your time relaxing by the pool and beach. The weather will be gorgeous in October.
We’ve been to Tenerife (Adeje) lots and don’t love it now. There’s not a huge amount to do so my teen would be bored I think.

We were. My DH was there for the duration, I evacuated out before it hit, he said he'd never been so scared. The lampposts were bent over in the street, buildings lost all their windows.

Very very scary.

hahabahbag · 04/08/2026 13:20

its hurricane season in the Caribbean, can be beautiful in October but maybe not!

allmycats · 04/08/2026 13:43

I would certainly recommend Barbados. Stay at St. Lawrence gap for lovely beaches but less expensive than further down the coast. Public transport is safe and affordable. Hire a car for a day of exploring. Lots to interest all age groups.

TartanTwit · 04/08/2026 13:49

Sharm in Egypt is affordable as the year goes on and very hot. Not for culture vultures but all inclusives are very good value and excellent quality. We have done Sharm in November for 650 each all inclusive and in December for 550 all inclusive Inc flights transfers baggage etc via easyJet package (*edit was only five nights each time I should say) with a swim up pool and on the coral reef and came back well tanned both times. Even in December it didn't dip past 25/6 degrees.

BIWI · 04/08/2026 13:52

As Barbados is the furthest East of the islands it tends not to get hit directly by the hurricanes.
