I'm curious, how much did your summer holiday cost this year?

How much are people paying to go on holiday this year?

Our stats:
2 adults 2 children
1 week in July to Lanzarote
Basic 2 star self catering apts, small pool, all clean and pleasant. No luxury.
£1800
Spending money approx £1500

We eat out for lunch and dinner each day, visit a music bar/play pool after dinner and do a few local day trips but kids happy with pool/beach/playparks. They could run up and down a wall beside stairs for hours!

I pass by some of the bigger hotels with the entertainment and activities and wonder if we would like that. Would anyone share how much they are paying for these types of holidays?

Just wondering how much people are paying for different holidays and also, as an aside, when is the best time to book for best deals?

Quite a few more people thank you think spend this on holidays, this isn’t classed as a massive booking where I work. £39k for 3 people (8nights) not in school holidays yesterday. Biggest I’ve done is £280k for 2 weeks and would have cost circa around £100k whilst they were out there.

You’d have absolutely no idea looking at people, but that’s the nice thing! I had a client come in for a £3k price match, they’ve spent £200k with me in the last 2 years now.

Would you say you get cheaper deals going into a travel agents in person rather than booking online through Jet2 etc?

Did you see what she charges her clients? 😂 I'd say travel agents are always more expensive

we’ve had a couple of holidays with Jet2: good value and service imo.
with multi stay holidays or more complex itineraries I normally do it myself.

We saved about £300 going into the local Tui travel agent shop as opposed to getting exactly the same trip online. We only went in because we wanted to fly from a more local airport which wasn’t an option online. And they said it was possible so booked there and then. So in our case it was well worth the visit

Ours was £400 for flights, £2500 for accommodations (3 separate places including a 5 star AI resort for 4 days at the end), and £1000 spending money. This was in Madeira and we loved it. Spent a bit more than usual as it was our 10 year anniversary since we started dating 😊.

Next year will be a camping holiday & center parcs!

I've never heard anyone that's gone to Madeira that's actually liked it (everyone said it was boring as not much to do) but it sounds like you had a lovely hotel so I guess that helped lol

I love Madeira too! It’s a quiet holiday for sure so that needs to be your thing. Stay in the old part of Funchal and there’s plenty of places to eat out and bars. The levada walks are stunning

Thanks for the tips. I wouldn't rule it out now :)

Madeira - We did a hike almost everyday - the levada & PR trails are what most people visit Madeira for.

I think this ‘not much to do’ really depends on what people want to do - if it’s laze round the pool reading , walk round in town and eat and drink then it’s totally fine- I guess if you want wall to wall daily activities and banging nightlife it could be seen as a bit dull - but why go in the first place -? same kind of applies to many Greek islands too, but you rarely read , ‘i went to iOS and not much to do etc’

We paid a little under 4k for 2 adults and 2 pre teen/teens in Morocco (just outside Marrakesh) for an all inclusive. This is connecting rooms. We also hired a car for 2 days and spent a bit of money on the petrol, shopping and a meal while we were out so maybe another 2-250 pounds.

Its certainly possible - I’ve just done one for £700 less than someone was getting with Virgin holidays online.

XelaM · 30/07/2026 13:46

Are there many brick and water travel agencies left on the high street? I'm in London and can't remember last time I saw one.

XelaM · 30/07/2026 13:55

brick and mortar*

ChiefCakeTestertoMaryBerry · 30/07/2026 14:27

We have paid £3100 for a self-catering place with a private pool in France for a week, plus £1k for the ferry and petrol. Plus bike hire and spending money but we haven’t eaten out. Two adults and two teens in the school holidays.

I am starting to think family holidays are not worth the money as mine just say they would rather be at home! Daughter also has social anxiety and selective mutism hence us paying more for a place with a private pool but she finds being away from home and the change of routine hard.

I think Hays Travel still have some, there’s a Tui branch in my local Asda.

CardboardBoxesLily · 30/07/2026 18:27

I’ve paid £2300 7 nights Turkey 5* AI end of Aug, solo. Seeing how much couples pay I’m not sure whether this is a good deal or not, or if there’s just a premium for solo holiday makers.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 30/07/2026 19:35

£8,200 for 5 adults - 1 night in Verona, 6 nights in Lake Garda. That's everything down to the last penny for everyone - airport parking, flights, 3 hotel rooms each night (4 star), car hire, petrol, all meals and drinks out in nice restaurants and bars (a lot of aperitivo time!), ferry for eeryone to other towns round the lake, gelatos, museum entrances, cable cars and parking, wine tasting for everyone. Fantastic holiday and cheaper (and far nicer and less boring) than an all inclusive in the hotel we used to stay in in Costa Adeje.

krne · 30/07/2026 23:02

We were in Iceland March/April for 9 nights and for flights, all accommodation, car hire, activities and spends, we were £5600 for two adults & two teens. Mostly booked last summer....
Then Scotland qualified for the World Cup so we went to Boston / New York for 10 nights. Flights, accommodation, transport between places, activities and spends, £7200 for the 4 of us.
February we went to Prague but that was a gift from our son.
(Not allowed any more holidays this year 😢🤣)

Weeeeeeeeeee · 31/07/2026 09:43

We've done a couple of trips to Asia for three weeks at a time, two adults, and spent £4k total (flights, accommodation, spending money). Always stayed in nice places but not big hotels - found some gorgeous exclusive independent "hotels", had a few internal flights each time, even managed premium economy back from Singapore, cruised or chartered a boat, ate out all the time, gone for massages, visited whatever we've wanted, basically done whatever we've wanted while we're there. Always booked everything independently and I spend months researching / putting it all together. But it means we've had some truly unique experiences on a budget.

Nothing - I've never been on holiday!

Not even in your home country? Not even camping or staying with friends in another city/the countryside?
