I'm curious, how much did your summer holiday cost this year?

How much are people paying to go on holiday this year?

Our stats:
2 adults 2 children
1 week in July to Lanzarote
Basic 2 star self catering apts, small pool, all clean and pleasant. No luxury.
£1800
Spending money approx £1500

We eat out for lunch and dinner each day, visit a music bar/play pool after dinner and do a few local day trips but kids happy with pool/beach/playparks. They could run up and down a wall beside stairs for hours!

I pass by some of the bigger hotels with the entertainment and activities and wonder if we would like that. Would anyone share how much they are paying for these types of holidays?

Just wondering how much people are paying for different holidays and also, as an aside, when is the best time to book for best deals?

Trolling ok well you'd know about that yourself having a go because I can see the bigger picture and I don't walk around blinkered

What’s the bigger picture? You’re not coming across as someone with a very sound understanding of the world so I’m not sure what it is you think you know.

Nobody’s blinkered, I’m just not sure what you’d like people to do?

I already pay tax, without any complaint I would add, that goes towards supporting people on or below the poverty line. I donate to food banks, and refuges. Every year at work we do a Christmas fundraiser for local children, and donate both gifts and food.

If what you’re suggesting is that people should be grateful they can afford to take their families on holiday, I’m sure most people already are.

Alternatively, if what you mean is that nobody should ever enjoy themselves because others have less - frankly, no.

I grew up in poverty, and that didn’t mean that other people didn’t get holidays or other things we couldn’t afford.

@twentyyearsagotoday The best Disney park in the world is generally agreed to be Tokyo DisneySea. It’s really quite spectacular and magical.

Due to the weak yen, Japan is much cheaper than Florida.

My teen and I absolutely LOVED DisneySea but it's more magical and low-level rides (which I love as I'm a total coward) rather than the big scary rides you get at other parks. So it's not good for thrill-seekers

Youre being deliberately antagonistic. Others have opinions too about your opinion, but apparently you’re the only one allowed to have one?

We have had our summer holiday in April Easter holidays the last two years, keeps cost right down and it good to go when it’s raining here!

We go to Turkey 5* ultra all inclusive, fantastic hotels. 2 adults and 2 children for 9 nights = £2300 (it was double to go 4 weeks later in May)

Would you mind sharing some great 5* AIs in Turkey you’d recommend please?

ViciousCurrentBun · 28/07/2026 23:23

We are retired now and have a motor home. Initial outlay was a lot and there are also on going costs such as MOT but daily costs when away are between y15 to 30 for a pitch per night or we stay at a pub for free if eating there. We just had close to 2 weeks away and will be going to Ireland for a month soon with ferry fare at £350 return.

When we were at your sort of time of life with school age children was a decade ago. We did 2 cruises that were 6k each, Our most expensive holiday was a month touring in America . Plus a trip to Disney in Florida was about 4k but that was 18 years ago, we stayed in Disney and then at a hotel right on the beach in Sarasota. I dread to think what that would cost now.
.
I asked chat GPT and it said around 11.5k now for the same sort of holiday and tickets in peak season.

I spend a LOT on holidays - you can check my comments, but I pay far more in tax.

Do I get a pass?

obviously not, you should live like you earn a minimum wage and just give the rest of the money away, apparently. Hardcore communism.

The poster was not rude. She was saying it's not most people who cannot afford a holiday or living in poverty and the stats are there too. It's not always something you can instantly pay for. I paid for our holiday in around 10 instalments

sunshineandrain82 · 29/07/2026 08:34

£7800 a week in turkey all inclusive.
3 adults and 4 kids (lucky enough to be able to take someone to help with the children)

we do upgrade to private transfers, better seats etc. so that can add a bit.

we also have 1 week in wales £1800 with all activities paid for. 2 adults 4 kids. I estimate £1000 for spending money hopefully less.

Of course, we recently stayed at the two Liberty hotels in Calis, Liberty Signa last year and Liberty Fabay this year. Both were excellent for the price. Though the area is quiet. For a more central hotel with shops then the Delphin Imperial in Lara Beach.

August 1st - 11th. No idea about food etc yet as we haven’t been, but I’m super excited. It looks fantastic from the reviews online and exactly what we need for a break away.
Included all flights, transfers when we are in Spain, 20kg of hold luggage and 10kg of cabin luggage per person (but we don’t need to use all that!) and the insurance for all 4 of us too.
