Holiday for for £1k - What can we do?

Money is super tight this year but we didn't get a holiday last year either so we really want to try and get away. We have scrabbled together £1000. What can we do with a family of 4 (kids are 5 and 7) for that?! We are both teachers so can go at any point over the next 6 weeks ... We can afford some spending money on top of this, but nothing wild! Any ideas?

Camping in Scotland - £20 - £30 a night.

Go on the parkdean website, there’s a section for summer 2026 holidays where you can do an open search and there’s plenty of options for around £500 for 7 nights. Self cater and your costs are no more than at home, change of scenery, beach nearby, couple of ice creams and a dinner out and you’ve got change from your £1000!

Do you have a car? Eurotunnel to France and an Airbnb.

Book a cottage for a week! You will easily find something for that budget. Sykes cottages has loads.

Loads of good prices on haven depending where you are and how far you want to travel.

arrange a click and collect or delivery to the site from a local supermarket when you arrive. Means you will end up spending less on food as you can properly plan meals and snacks

Have a look on Tui - there's a few 7 night breaks coming in under £1k for two adults and two kids on a self catering basis.

Where do you live area wise?

We go to Cornwall every October. Weather is fine and sea is warm for paddling. We use haven as a base for exploring Cornwall. Stay in a silver caravan and its 340 for the week for the 3 bed so a 2 bed is cheaper.

You’d get a lovely static caravan for that somewhere. Dawlish is nice for kids. Try Dawlish Sands holiday park.

If you can stretch to an extra £25 there seems to be availability for a couple of weeks at the seaside here. Eurocamp? Tesco vouchers for the shuttle? Euro centre parcs also cheaper.

haven near a beach? hafan y mor in north wales looks great?

primrose valley is good near Scarborough.

if you go to France a good tip is that prices go down a lot there in the last week of august. Campsite or mobile home could be an option

Budget flights to somewhere in Europe, stay in an air bnb

Eurostar have some train and hotel deals, I’ve just done a few searches and could get 24th-28th August in Belgium, France or Germany around the £1k mark. It’s definitely worth having a look at their website if you fancied going outside the UK

Eurocamp could work just had a look now for a random week in august and cheapest is £422 which gives you over £500 for ferry or eurotunnel crossing

We stayed at a Haven for £1k for a 7 nights a couple of augusts ago so perhaps do 4 nights then you'll have a few hundred spending for meals etc.

• club house with kids evening entertainment

Stay at one near a beach

With non-uk breaks I think you'll struggle now to get cheap ferries or flights

Decide on somewhere that's cheap to eat/drink like the canaries, go on sky scanner and play around with dates, 5/6/7/8 nights to find cheap flights. Go on booking.com and search for a hotel/villa
