Holiday for for £1k - What can we do?

Money is super tight this year but we didn't get a holiday last year either so we really want to try and get away. We have scrabbled together £1000. What can we do with a family of 4 (kids are 5 and 7) for that?! We are both teachers so can go at any point over the next 6 weeks ... We can afford some spending money on top of this, but nothing wild! Any ideas?

I second this. We’re off to a cottage tomorrow in a lovely resort town - it cost less than £1k

Oh gosh thank you all so much for the ideas - I am off to Google and follow up these links now!!! We are in the South East and have a car. We've done France a lot in the past so fancy something a bit different. Thank again everyone! Xxx

You can drive pretty easily from northern France to the Netherlands. It's got some fantastic campsites.

You'll get a cheap static caravan break for that. Start with Park Dean.

Or if that's not your thing a Premier Inn city break, we had a great long weekend in Manchester last year. We got adjoining rooms so we had extra space and the kids enjoys the breakfast with views of the city and restaurant on the top floor.

Or cheap flights to Belfast or Dublin, with an air BnB apartment. Might be tight by do-able.

Next year try to plan ahead, we got a week in Flamingo land January sale for 50% off so we were able to upgrade to hot tub etc.

We've had lots of cheap holidays when our DC were little and we were skint, it is what you make it. Picnic lunches, search for discount codes, use Tesco vouchers. It is possible!

I’m in a 4 bed holiday cottage on the beach in Suffolk for less than that right now. It’s glorious weather, just walked on the beach with the dogs for an hour. Totally empty.

Belgium? Brussels, Bruges, Antwerp and Ghent are all great for visits.

If you think about driving, the coast north Belgium/south Netherland is great. Easy to self-cater and you can also bring plenty of things with you to just buy fresh food like you do at home.

Petrol is currently cheapest in Belgium

Have a look at the European centerparcs , they are much cheaper than the uk ones .

Look at St ives Bay holiday park in Hayle Cornwall, its a lovely site with caravans and chalets, on a massive beach, club house with entertainment , a lidl two minutes walk down the hill and central for going places, we had a great stay there

Just found kefalonia on tui 7 nights going from Stansted on 30th of July family of 4 for £883 ...not sure where you can fly from but if you get the tui app and search 'anywhere' and then sorg prices low to high there are some bargains to be had !,

It depends what you consider glorious weather! Just looked up the weather in Aldeburgh (my favourite part of Suffolk) and it’s highs of 20-24 degrees with cold mornings and evenings all next week. That won’t be warm enough for a summer holiday for most people. Lovely part of the world though.
