Italy, Greece or Cape Verde 2027. Help!

We've been going back and forth about holiday destinations and we cannot agree! Please help.
The last 2 holidays have been my Husbands choice of destination and hotel. I would love to go to either Italy or possibly Greece but with a small family hotel not a huge AI thing.
My husband is constantly sending me links to hotels in areas that just don't appeal to me. He is now gibbering on about Cape Verde which I don't fancy at all, maybe because I haven't read up on it.
I would love somewhere with traditional character, where we can sample good foods etc and some sightseeing without being over commercialised.
Apparently it is 100% my choice this time 😂
Where would you recommend for me, (not DH) x

Do extensive research before considering Cape Verde as there is a massive issue with hygiene and Shigella bacterial infections. Too many people are falling very ill and some even dying from going on holiday to Cape Verde.
Now Sicily is immense and I highly recommend it! Bologna and Florence are lovely as is Rome. Sicily has it's own character though and very beautiful.

I was going to say the same about Cape Verde.

Another one saying don’t go to Cape Verde.

Lake Garda...it's so beautiful there and lots of interesting places to visit or you can just chill.

You can't go wrong with Italy in my opinion. Been there many times - always a great holiday.

If you are seriously considering Cape Verde, you need to extensively research it. I cannot stress that enough.

we cancelled Cape Verde this year after the bad hygiene reports (people died). Love the Greek islands. Sorrento is nice but not really beach hol

We went to Sicily last summer. Stayed in two lovely small hotels. One an absolute bargain and can’t understand why. It was completely bloody roasting though! I’m on holiday now (not Sicily) and got to go to sleep for flight in the am but I’ll try and remember to update details if you want them. One was outside Toarmina and the other near Agrigento

Morning and wow thank you! I am so glad you all have said no to CV because I had read the recent reports but haven't broached this with him.
I have always wanted to visit Italy, he knows this.
We would be going the first 2 weeks in June would the temperature be tolerable?

We went to Mexico last year and I was ill with a dodgy tummy for over a week so the holiday was dampened by that.

According to the internet the temperature should be ok as it will be between 20 to 30c, you definitely don't want to leave it any later though plus beaches will be heaving the more you head in to summer, we went in the month of September and it was very warm even then but tolerable and not too busy. We stayed in Catania and explored the south. We were meant to have another trip and had a beautiful Airbnb booked by the sea in Cefalu in the north but COVID scuppered it so it's on the list to be booked again at some point.

You can get a dodgy tummy anywhere. We spent a month in Mexico & were absolutely fine.
C.V. apparently doesn't have good medical facilities, & seriously ill people have to be air-lifted to Tenerife.

Can you be more specific about which areas appeal to you ?

Italy & Greece are large countries, I've spent time in both & there are very different areas in each country.

Greek island - loads to choose from. Or a bit of island hopping.

Depends whether you like the heat....

I would be hard pressed to choose between Greece and Italy in June - both will be absolutely wonderful. If you've always wanted to go to Italy then do that. There are so many beautiful areas to choose from and it's easy to get around by train. I recommend Sicily, Umbría and Tuscany. I'd love to go to the lakes. Naples is amazing and you could combine it with the Amalfi coast and the islands like Procida.
Definitely do the thing you want to do!

Greece! Never disappoints . We just had a fab holiday on Kos.

I would 100% recommend Ischia. Fly to Naples, catch ferry. Not as well known as other islands on Amalfi Coast, beautiful gardens to visit and some great little towns. Some film locations to spot as well.

Florence and Bologna will be rammed and are city breaks not long family holidays (unless you stay in a villa in Tuscany and hire a car),

I actually wished we’d stayed longer than 3 nights in the hotel above. There were so many places to visit nearby. Great breakfast and its restaurant was good for dinner.

if you like food and history then Sicily is amazing. Food and drink cheaper than here. I think June would be great although in the recent heatwave it was hotter here than Sicily. We arrived in 28 last year but it went up to 37 but that was August.

We also stayed in Ortigia in an Airbnb which was amazing. Didn’t manage to visit many of the historical sites in Taormina and Ortigia/Syracuse because of the heat. Noto though is beautiful!!

@TofuTuesdayyessss. Ischia is lovely!! We went to Cinque Terra as well for a couple of days which is glorious

The Amalfi coast is beautiful. If you base yourself in Sorrento, Capri, Positano, Ischia and Ravello are all easily accessible.

@MysticHalfWitchcinque terre was gorgeous when I was there in the (!) 90s - there was the really long walk through the cliffs but I think you have to pay now?

Sorry for the silence, we have been checking out Lake Orta or Tuscany and also Puglia as recommended above. There are so so many beautiful areas we need to choose a location and then research from there. X
