Please help me make a checklist for a 20-year-old’s first flight & holiday to Spain

’my 20 year old is going on first holiday alone with friend to youth hostel in Spain beginning of July. As a family we have only had one holiday out of the uk (unfortunately covid and health problems meant no flying ) this was when he was toddler so he has no experience at all of finding his way in an airport, being in a plane , checking in and so on . I’ve advised him to check with airline for what can go in bags etc but he’s reluctant to find out more . Please help me to make an essential checklist, it’s been many years since I have been in a plane and I’m feeling pretty useless right now as a parent.

If he doesn't want to ruin his holiday with illness he should wear an N95 at the airports and on the plane. Planes are cesspits of infection with terrible air quality. Wearing a mask when flying is an absolute no-brainer.

Yep, I can see that happening.

Thank you again for helping me with this, as I mentioned my son has no experience at all of airports or flying, being neurodivergent I am just trying to help as he finds spoken conversations hard as he is dyslexic too.

My DC have been responsible for packing their own bags for holidays since they were about 8 years old. I’m sure you can leave your 20 year old to get on with it themselves.

@MissedItByThisMuch So maybe address the needs of the op? Her DS isn’t your DS. It’s very important for dc to take control of their lives. Many of us have youngsters who have travelled and managed without us helicoptering. He’s even going with a friend! I’m sure he can read signs and follow instructions. If he packs stuff that’s going to be confiscated, stupid him! Just drop them off and he’ll be fine! Take a backpack though and pay for it to go in the hold!

If he isn't interested to find these things out for himself at 20, he shouldn't be travelling until he's older.
