It’s a day flight and around 11hrs. I will be celebrating my 30th birthday in that week.

It’s £350 each, two of us

For an 11 hour flight, yep. Personally I would see how much it is for business.

shellyleppard · 17/03/2026 18:55

Would you get extra leg room and better food/service?? If I could afford it then definitely yes. Plus its a special occasion so....

Kattya · 17/03/2026 18:55

Yes absolutely. I try to upgrade every time makes such a difference. It’s well worth the money

HalfasleepChrisintheMorning · 17/03/2026 18:56

Yes

EmmasDilemmas · 17/03/2026 18:56

It depends on how much £700 is to you and what else you’d do with it. Personally I wouldn’t for a day flight - I will probably be watching films or reading either way and I’d rather have £700 for activities / hotel upgrades / lovely meals out on holiday. But if you think it would make the holiday more special and you can afford it, go ahead!

CheeseWisely · 17/03/2026 18:57

Yes. Not in every circumstance but special occasion, day flight, 11 hours, yes yes and yes again.

crunchycrunchers · 17/03/2026 18:58

I did last year for a special birthday trip to the US. It was with Virgin Atlantic and on my way out I don’t think it was particularly worth it. Plane was an older model and the advantage was a bigger seat but otherwise not really loads of difference. The flight home however was lush - brand new plane and it felt really lovely and calming. All in all it was worth it but there was a significant difference between flights.

I’ve done long flights both ways and premium economy def feels less draining - maybe worth it for the occasion, but I’d only splurge if the rest of the trip isn’t tight.

Not if you’re flying BA. Their PE is crap.

MiddleAgedDread · 17/03/2026 19:07

I agree with this, especially if you can’t get the two seats together.

MabelAnderson · 17/03/2026 19:09

Yes. Although the difference in price between premium economy and business is not always massive, yet the difference in terms of comfort on a long haul flight is huge. 11 hours I wouldn’t even consider anything below premium economy, and would choose business if possible. I went business for a slightly longer flight, and I don’t regret it at all. Rarely fly anywhere so pushed the boat out.

hahabahbag · 17/03/2026 19:09

Yes, worth it

hahabahbag · 17/03/2026 19:10

BA premium economy was good on the 777 I took. Might be route dependent

reversegear · 17/03/2026 19:10

We did this on the way to the Maldives, it was nice but the whole of economy was empty so my DH ended up heading back and laying out there!! This was Virgin the whole front of the flight was full in first and business.

ImWearingPantaloons · 17/03/2026 19:12

I did.

It was worth every single penny (although the hangover that hit as soon as we touched down in Mexico, not so much….)

Gardenquestion22 · 17/03/2026 19:21

Did on a 9 hour flight to Caribbean a couple of weeks ago. BA. flight out 2 seats together, way back was in a 4. It was great, more space, less frazzled when we got there, food was pretty good. It’s not business, but for £350 i would upgrade.

OhDear111 · 18/03/2026 15:22

BA often operate 4 classes so PE is still economy! (3rd out of 4). It’s got slightly wider seats and a bit more leg room. Smaller cabin. On a new aircraft it’s perfectly ok. You get economy food, not business class food with champagne and wine etc and you don’t get early boarding like business. You will probably exit a bit quicker. We greatly prefer business and the new pods are pretty good. Some routes are very good value for business.

It’s definitely not the same food as economy on BA

And yes I absolutely would upgrade if you can afford it

nuttyslackster · 18/03/2026 15:43

Definitely 💯

RandomUsernameHere · 18/03/2026 15:53

I wouldn’t and would spend it during the holiday instead, but it depends on how uncomfortable you find economy and how much money you have.

Maddy70 · 18/03/2026 15:56

Definitely depends on the airline and plane usually not really worth the difference. Check out the plane and the spec and what yig are actually getting for that

No, it’s its own class. You do get priority boarding ahead of economy and the food is different and a bit better to that served in economy. You also do get sparkling wine on departure and can have more during the flight, as well as wine (which you can also get free in economy on BA).

Squirrelchops1 · 18/03/2026 19:07

Virgin PE was great as just the 2 seats together but the food was absolutely underwhelming, so disappointed

NiftyZebra · 18/03/2026 19:11

Yes, as someone with long legs it makes such a difference. With BA it's a much smaller cabin so quieter too.
