Please find a may half term break before I go mad

Budget: Up to 4k

Location: Any country unlikely to be at war (I know this is difficult)

2 Adults, 12 year old boy, 6 year old girl.

Would like lots of activities for the kids so I can just switch off and drink cocktails.

Some sun would be nice but appreciate this is hard to guarantee.

Thank you in advance, Mumsnet.

Cruise.

Royal Caribbean and MSC, both out of Southampton. So basically you drive to sounthanpton and BOOM! You’re on holiday! The kids will love it, and so will you.

TheMateofOphelia · 05/03/2026 15:35

Id love a cruise but assume it would be outside of budget. Will look though - thanks!

One of the Center Parcs places on the continent. May half term is off-peak for them and they're generally much cheaper anyway. My kids loved De Vossemeren on the Belgian-Dutch border and while it's unlikely to be boiling hot, the catering package is a dream.

PistachioTiramisu · 05/03/2026 18:03

Majorca or Sardinia?

NotDarkGothicMama · 05/03/2026 18:35

Which airport would you fly from, if you flew?

Bristol ideally but could do Birmingham.

We’re going to the Croatian Riviera again May half term. Lovely area.

At the risk of stating the obvious, what's wrong with a hotel in the Canaries? There's plenty of quieter, nicer places if you want to avoid 'Brits on the piss', eg Playa Blanca Lanzarote or Puerto Mogan Gran Canaria.

Put your details in the jet2holidays.com deals finder, play with the filters, eg you might get an on site waterpark and see what comes up.

Depending on how many cocktails you're expecting to drink, half board might be better value than all inclusive and it will also give you flexibility if you want to get out and about without feeling like you've wasted money for food you've already paid for. You can always buy drinks and snacks from the supermarket to avoid hotel prices for all drinks.

We had a lovely week in Majorca in May half term last year.

This is a perfect answer, you're pretty much guaranteed sun, Jet2 have good filters if you want to have 2 bedroom accommodation etc, have you looked and not found anything?

BarbiesDreamHome · 06/03/2026 07:28

What about a UK break? Luxury hotel or cottage with indoor pool?

LittleEmily · 06/03/2026 08:20

If you’re looking for a lovely May getaway, I’d highly recommend visiting Bath — it’s beautiful in spring and perfect for a relaxing short holiday.

You can cruise in August for £4K, they’re very cost effective. Definitely worth a look.

Peabody25 · 06/03/2026 09:10

There’s absolutely tonnes on Jet2 for under £4000. I put in your requirements and it comes up with 25 hols for all inclusive, flying on the Saturday from Bristol, with pools etc for under £4000.

ladygindiva · 06/03/2026 09:18

My mates just recommended euro camp to me, sounds like what you might be looking for. Google them.

REDB99 · 06/03/2026 09:21

I second a Centre Parcs on the continent. Much cheaper than UK. Loads for the kids. Bars, food etc for adults.

It won't be warm and there won't be cocktails or organised fun for the DC

gingercat02 · 06/03/2026 09:50

I would do AI Canaries or Balearics or southern Spain or Portugal.
Definitely use Jet2 WhatsApp. Tell them what you want, they send back holidays. Easy.

TheMateofOphelia · 07/03/2026 15:52

Thanks all. I think my main issue has been an overwhelming amount of choice but, with some consultation with DH, we're going to try the All inclusive route - either baleriacs or canaries as recommended here.

More AI?

Poppyseedssun · 10/04/2026 21:32

Algarve, Crete, Menorca, Rhodes

TwistedWonder · 10/04/2026 21:33

Crete would be perfect and weather will be pretty good too

More AI?

Yes. Bath, the perfect cocktail-infused holiday destination for someone whose local airport is Bristol 😂😂.

TheMateofOphelia · 10/04/2026 21:42

We've booked to go to Alcudia, Majorca.

Thank you. Bath will have to wait until next year.
