3 nights without children. Relaxed and cheap?

My mum has offered to have the kids for a few days in June so I'm looking at booking flights somewhere.
I'm looking for somewhere that we can relax but we are not beach people. Maybe a small city or town to wander around, good food and drinks, things to see and do but not an on the go busy city break. Any ideas?
We have previously been to Budapest and loved it so same kind of vibe. I'm happy to fly in to somewhere and then catch a train for an hour or so. Thank you for any ideas.

Helsinki or Reykjavik? Not cheap but a bit different.

SleekWhisky · 03/03/2026 17:07

Pollensa or Palma on Majorca
or Lisbon
Seville

SleekWhisky · 03/03/2026 17:09

if cheap is key then what about Tallinn, Estonia or Ljubljana in Slovenia

Donostiera · 03/03/2026 17:09

San Sebastián. Fly to biarritz or blibao and public transport is good. Lovely city to wander, great bars and food.

BeautifulPeonies · 03/03/2026 17:20

Bratislava, Slovakia
Prague (albeit more expensive)
Budva, Monte Negro
Puglia region , Italy
Tenerife
Malaga, Granada, Seville

Track down the cheap flights first. We’ve had a weirdly good time in some random Polish towns - very cheap!

Daffydoll · 03/03/2026 17:47

Barcelona is amazing as is Prague and Vienna

Porto.

Thank you everyone! Seville was my first thought but I've heard it is really hot in June? I hadn't considered Plm, but this might actually fit the brief. I love eastern european countries but I can't find any cheap flights for the week that we have, but I will keep looking.

We have just had a few days in Madrid. We had 5 days, stayed right in the centre, bear Plaza Major. Really cheap flights, apartment was good, and not badly priced. Really good bars and restaurants. Lots of culture, Royal Palace, 3 top class art galleries, good shopping, lovely large park. If you are into football, one of the best stadiums in the world to visit. Good, cheap transport - it cost €4 on the metro from the city centre to the airport. From where we stayed we could reach most of the sites/galleries in 20 minutes. No sea, but a good city to visit.

Den Hague!

Beautiful city, relaxed bars and restaurants in the city squares. 15 minute tram ride to the beach. Great shopping, markets and museums.

A very quick flight from the UK. ( though Poland will be cheaper for food and drink!).

MyCatPrefersPeaches · 05/03/2026 09:44

The Hague is a good shout and you could easily get the Eurostar or train to Harwich and foot passenger on the ferry (look for Rail and Sail).

I’d look at the Baltics at that time of year. Tallinn, Riga, Vilnius, Gdansk and Helsinki would all be good options for a low key few days - Helsinki is more expensive but London prices rather than Oslo prices. Or maybe northern Germany? I looked at Lubeck and Bremen a while ago, as a Ryanair fly there.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 05/03/2026 16:19

Malaga has every thing.
Culture, history , great food, beaches, harbour, gardens retail therapy…easy to get to, lots if flights. Fast journey from the airport.

smooshraspberry · 05/03/2026 16:23

Bologna or Lisbon

TheArtfulScreamer1 · 05/03/2026 16:37

Gdansk or Porto would be my choice both are lovely for a few days visit. Especially if you visit Sopot from Gdansk and the Douro Valley from Porto.

sundayvibeswig22 · 05/03/2026 20:01

If it were me I’d go onto Skyscanner put in your local airport and dates and chose everywhere. It will give you every country it flies to with the flights in order of cheesiest to dearest. Then find your accommodation. Personally I love Lisbon. I love being able to see the sea and it’s a great city. I found it quite reasonable cost wise also.

Ljubljana isn't cheap.

MaybeNotBob · 07/03/2026 14:21

Don't know where you're starting from, but avoid the flights and go to Lille. It's a lovely town with enough to do.
Or maybe Gent. Absolutely beautiful place.

Seville. It's not too big, lots of lovely bars and cafés, and will be warm.
