Had to be done!

Norway: Tromso to meet the huskies; Northern Lights excursion: Bergen to Oslo train ride. Loved all of it. So clean. English spoken everywhere. great food.
Switzerland: just so beautiful.
Lymington, Hampshire: fabulous market; sea; New Forest on the doorstep; lots of interesting, independent shops; great restaurants. Used to live here and it was like being on holiday all the time!
The Cotswolds: again, just so beautiful.

Paris: there's just nowhere like it, and it's so walkable.
Edinburgh: it's like having all the best bits of London put together in a much more sensible compact space! Some great restaurants too.

Bosnia-Herzegovina - surprisingly beautiful and interesting.

MagicSpaceTurtle · 24/08/2025 09:04

Agree with Switzerland - beautiful and so clean. Also love Paris and Edinburgh.

To add - Copenhagen seemed relaxed and friendly. Germany also has some amazing cities. I also love Snowdonia and the north Devon coast.

Where I live! Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way. If I didn't already live here I would love a holiday here!

MissAmbrosia · 24/08/2025 10:53

Strasbourg or Lyon for alternative French city break.
Liverpool is marvellous
I love Italy - Stresa, Lake Maggiore, Monopoli in Puglia, Tropea and Pizzo in Calabria, Ischia.
Seville / Granada / Cordoba / Cadiz
Antibes / Juan Les Pins

Isle of Wight: been twice, so much to do.
Cornwall: ditto, but don't go at high season!
Loire Valley: went as a child, camped in a place close to a fairytale castle. One of my best memories.

Gothenburg. Really close and travelling around is cheap, head out to the archipelago. Beautiful city and countryside, just don’t eat out as it’s £££, do picnics.

Another vote for Paris. Top tip: Thursday night, everything is open late.

Sidmouth. Absolutely gorgeous town, beautiful walks.

Berlin. Everyone’s doing it and it’s for a good reason. Fantastic.

Reignonyourparade · 24/08/2025 21:08

Svalbard. O.M.G just breathtakingly vast and beautiful in a giant, but tiny (flora and fauna) way. The natural world is amazing.

agoodfriendofthethree · 24/08/2025 21:15

Norway, Slovenia - both absolutely beautiful and felt mostly very unspoilt, great places to spend time outdoors

Vietnam, Malaysia - lovely people, amazing food, culturally very interesting, loads to see and do, fantastic (but relatively very cheap!) hotels

Notpop · 24/08/2025 21:23

Edinburgh - so much to see
and do and never fails to please
Northern Scottish Highlands - incredible scenery and a wonderful pace of life
Dubrovnik - just stunning and the people so friendly
anywhere in Canada-again people lovely and the scenery is mind blowing
Granada, Spain - the Alhambra is stunning and the food locally is amazing

RainbowZebraWarrior · 24/08/2025 21:26

Definitely Slovenia. 80% of it is national park and Lake Bled is stunning. In winter, it's much cheaper to ski there too compared with the usual European ski resorts.

honeyfox · 24/08/2025 21:29

St Maló and the surrounding area in France. Just beautiful architecture, beaches, food and the people are very friendly.

We're planning on going back to Brittany next month, we loved it that much.

WickedGoodDoge · 24/08/2025 21:42

Georgia. Tbilisi is the most achingly beautiful city I have ever been to and the Caucasus mountains are amazing

jeaux90 · 25/08/2025 08:07

Dubrovnik was amazing. St Lucia (I stayed at windjammer) I just loved the wildness and natural beauty and all the wildlife.

fiorentina · 25/08/2025 08:26

Croatia - Dubrovnik and then travelling to the islands including Hvar
Copenhagen
Tokyo

I love Japan. When I get home from one trip I’m always itching to book the next one. I love travelling around the country seeing new places. It’s a beautiful country and everything just works. Even cheap hotels have brilliant amenities and are spotlessly clean.

Taiwan exceeded all my expectations and I absolutely loved it.

Iceland is just wonderful and I recommend it for people with accessibility needs who love the outdoors. There’s so many beautiful places that you can get pretty close to without having to hike a long way from the road.

I have looked at Taiwan a couple of times as I really fancy it. I’ve been to China and Japan (& Iceland!). Was it easy to escape the cities?

It was quite some years ago now but from what I remember it was very easy and I think it’s even easier now as they’ve added extra train lines since then. The transport network is excellent and there were a lot of great places to see within easy reach of Taipei.

We took an organised day trip down to Hualien and Taroko Gorge, which involved a flight down and then a train back to Taipei but you could quite easily self-organise it. We really want to go back someday and take the train all the way around the island staying in various places along the way. We stayed in Taipei and day-tripped but would probably do it differently now.

Mainland Greece. If you say you are going to Greece, everyone immediately asks 'which island?'

The mainland is beautiful, outside of the cities the driving is easy and there is loads to see. And the beaches on the west coast are stunning - and empty.

AnnaMagnani · 25/08/2025 09:32

Also Finland. Went in May which is before their holiday season. Absolutely stunning and nobody there as their traditional 'season' is quite short in July/August. We were a bit worried there wouldn't enough to do, couldn't have been more wrong! Went to Helsinki, Turku, Porvoo and into Lake Saimaa - even saw a rare ringed seal.

Also in May you avoid all the mosquitoes.

wuminzo · 25/08/2025 09:43

The Aude region in France.

chunkybear · 25/08/2025 10:08

Venice - currently here too! Second visit here and it’s just beautiful and very unique

Lisanne55 · 25/08/2025 10:10

Croatia/Estonia/Slovenia- anywhere on the Dalmatian coast, Lake Bled, Ljubljana, Tallinn. Just gorgeous.

St Petersberg for the art, architecture and history. Such a rewarding visit and worth the hassle of getting the visa.

Phnomn Pehn and Saigon are easy to do in one trio and fascinating - great food, history, art, culture.

All of Vietnam, you can't go wrong!
