Two weeks. Insane heat?

Has anyone been in July? Is it enjoyable or just too much. Found a great hotel.

Looking for some personal experience.

Thankyou.

Insane heat just about covers it really. It's certainly not a beach holiday - you'd fry. What sort of holiday are you looking for?

CosyNavyLeader · 17/08/2025 13:57

Just chilled, kids happy in the pool.

We would look to do a boat trip. Perhaps the evening quad desert type trip. That kinda thing.

Honestly don’t. It’s a shit hole. One of the only places we would never go back to. Unless you don’t want to leave the hotel at all but in July the heat will be pretty unbearable to most.

CalzoneOnLegs · 17/08/2025 13:58

The sun is brutal in July, there’s no respite from the heat the nights are just as hot but without sun it’s like a giant fan heater on high. Ok if you can stand heat and intended to spend every minute in the sea or pool even then watch your neck/back
I would not take children.

SushiDisco · 17/08/2025 14:01

I wouldn’t be going there especially with children, regardless of the heat.

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 17/08/2025 14:04

We went in August, twice. AND we did side trips snorkeling, Cairo Pyramids and Luxor and dh went off birdwatching with a guide. Fucking brutal. But our hotel was fabulous, poolside rooms and sub arctic air con. But little(nothing) to do in the evenings, no entertainment and once you've been into Sharm, you've been.

The evening trips are ok, hot, dusty, get your obligatory camel riding pic. Quads with little kids no, older ones maybe(i wouldn't)

Whatareyoutalkingaboutnow · 17/08/2025 14:07

There's much nicer places to go, literally hundreds of them.

CalzoneOnLegs · 17/08/2025 14:09

It’s superb for snorkelling and diving, if you aren’t into those then you may as well go to closer to home honestly.

TwelfthOfNever · 17/08/2025 14:11

Hell on earth :D Unless you're spending all day in the water with the scuba/snorkeling folks. There's nothing really there apart from hotels, and it's a bloody long coach to the Egyptian touristery.

TurnThatLightOn · 17/08/2025 14:16

Not a chance. You really can't spend much time outdoors during the day - the heat is relentless. Average mid 30s I think but often hotter. I wouldn't take kids. There are much better places to choose.

Derbee · 17/08/2025 14:19

Yes. It’s an absolute shit hole any time of the year, but the heat in July will make it even more unpleasant. Don’t know why you’d even consider it to be honest.

Empress13 · 17/08/2025 14:21

I’ve been to Hurgada in Egypt and agree with PP the heat is oppressive. Wouldn’t say it’s the best place for kids tbh there loads of other nicer places with water parks etc

Loubylie · 17/08/2025 14:22

Too fucking hot.

ExitPursuedByABare · 17/08/2025 14:22

Why would you?

Cinaferna · 17/08/2025 14:23

Don't. It will be too hot to move, to sunbathe, to be in the pool.
Also, I have never met anyone who went to Sharm and didn't spend the majority of their holiday throwing up from food poisoning. Go somewhere you can enjoy the sun and not get ill.

GoingToEgypt · 17/08/2025 14:24

We went this July and actually found the heat manageable. But we loved Cairo and Luxor (the history) but hated Sharm el Sheikh - despite the hotel being nice, the whole place was tacky and dull and soul-destroying. We were there three nights but it felt like three weeks. Never again.

G5000 · 17/08/2025 14:25

there's a reason you can find great deals there that time of year. and yes Sharm is horrible at any time.

PollyannaNibbs · 17/08/2025 14:37

Way too hot and the kids would be a sweating whining mess.

Chewbecca · 17/08/2025 14:39

Unpleasant

CalzoneOnLegs · 17/08/2025 14:45

Here is some info about the UV index copied off a google search

The months with the highest UV index in Sharm El-Sheikh are June and July, with an average maximum UV index of 12. A UV Index estimate of 11, and higher, represents an ultimate health vulnerability from unsafe exposure to UV radiation for the ordinary person.
Note: A maximum high daily UV index of 12 during July translates into the following directions:
Ensure every crucial precaution is taken. Individuals with light skin could experience burns in under 5 minutes. Seek shade and minimize exposure to direct Sun in a period between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. when UV radiation is most intense; keep in mind that shade structures like parasols or canopies do not provide perfect sun protection. It's wise to wear UVA and UVB-blocking sunglasses when the sun shines brightly. Even on cloudy days, a sunscreen with a minimum 30 sun protection factor should be generously applied and frequently re-applied, including after every swim or outdoor exercise. Beware! The strength of the UV rays is significantly increased by the reflection of the water and sand.

DeLaRuiz · 17/08/2025 14:47

Ooh no it’s a horrible place and the weather is harsh as hell.

RandomUsernameHere · 17/08/2025 14:47

We got back last week, so were there last week of July/first week of August. Loved it, I’m a heat lover though. The DCs really enjoyed it, especially all the snorkelling and seeing the fish and the coral reefs. DH found it a bit too hot.

Beyondburnout · 17/08/2025 14:49

It's a fucking dump. Worst place I've ever visited. Egypt is the FGM capital of the world and it shows in the attitude to women. On the bright side I saw the pyramids. I went in October half term.

CorvusPurpureus · 17/08/2025 14:57

I live in Egypt, so I'm acclimatised. It wasn't unbearable this summer, but you'd definitely want a bucket of factor 50.

I'm not a fan of Sharm - I'd rather go to Dahab for the snorkelling, or Hurghada for 5* AI with kids. It pains me to say it, but most of Sharm is just a bit grotty. North Coast is a bit more salubrious if you want a beach holiday.
