Do you think some people are almost addicted to holidaysvand holiday planning?

I think I am one of these people 🙈

I always have to have something to look forward to. I love travelling, not just holidaying. I love big road trips, exploring places off the beaten track etc but my kids tease me for booking a holiday on a holiday. I do this almost always 🙈 we are just back from a huge holiday touring around Canada. I already have a trip in Sept with DH & DD in Oct. Just squeezed in a short family break in Ireland before both of those for August bank holiday in Ireland (where we live).

Now looking at NYC for Dec 🙈 sometimes I wonder am I trying to escape my day to day life 🙈🙈

We were looking at next year's break whilst on the flight back from this year's break. 😅

I think people who do this are generally unsatisfied and unhappy, unable to live in the moment.

Or curious and interested in learning

Sounds familiar.
Sitting on the couch struggling with jet lag, surrounded by this years luggage, 'have you ordered a guide book for next year'.

Ok next year we want a touring type holiday that will take a bit of planning but still!

Checking in!

DH & I love the research and planning as well as the travels themselves. We have July, November, January trips booked currently.

It's our time of life for going away and seeing the world as much as we please, couldn't do it in the past because of family commitments and who knows what the future holds.

We spend a lot on our travels but very little on the stuff other people do.

Kellyklara · 12/07/2025 10:58

We are meant to see the world. We are not meant to stay in one tiny town.

As someone said:

why live in a box, when you have the whole world

LlynTegid · 12/07/2025 11:01

Maybe not an addiction for me, but a great interest. I do get some work colleagues surprised at how far ahead I plan them though.

OldRoguey · 12/07/2025 11:02

My name is OldRoguey and I'm addicted to holidays!

cheezncrackers · 12/07/2025 11:03

I'm the same, so is my sister. I think we were raised to be like this tbh. Both parents longed for our annual summer holiday and it was always eagerly awaited and the days counted down.

Gwenhwyfar · 12/07/2025 11:03

I wish I liked planning holidays. I'm not great at the planning or enjoying myself when I'm there.

Kellyklara · 12/07/2025 11:04

I just feel sad at all the places i will never get to see.

I wanted to see every country in europe. But im in my 40s now and i have only seen half of them.

I just get so little time off work

MissAmbrosia · 12/07/2025 11:05

I love it. I work bloody hard and it's the one thing that never fails to cheer me up. I'm not interested in "stuff" and do spend a lot of money every year. Don't go long-haul as i don't really like flying. As I already live on mainland Europe I love the train and will use that as much as possible. This year I have been to Warsaw, Malaga, Utrecht, Calabria (2 weeks), Salzburg. Next weekend we are meeting old friends in Amsterdam for a long weekend. Another trip to Calabria planned in September. Discussing currently with the girls where to do our trip this year. Maybe Seville as we can't go til later in the year, and the weather should still be nice. Will also travel for work - Germany planned this month and probably Lisbon and Athens as a new contract to be signed shortly. And I am already thinking about next year - possibly an Interrail trip around Scandinavia - Oslo. Bergen, Copenhagen, Gothenburg, Stockholm etc.

Yes. I am. After losing a family member before their time it really shocked me and made me want to live and make up for the years I’d lost. I’m not necessarily going far - just camping holidays mainly - but I want to explore a bit while I still can.

CrazyBaubles · 12/07/2025 11:10

Not for me, I find planning to stressful as we like to do trips with several stops/long road trips but for DH, 100%.

He has a note on his iPad that contains a rough itinerary/list of things to do for approximately 10 places we haven’t been but have at some point mentioned that we’d like to do.
Hes also saved all previous ones with little notes about what worked, what didn’t and places we found along the way that were great. Its a much requested thing amongst our friends and family Grin

I leave him to it. It makes him happy and it means that my stress levels are low because when we decide to go on holiday, we agree a budget and he presents me with a couple of options from a list of places we’ve already said we’d like to do. Win win!

Shnuzzbucket · 12/07/2025 11:12

My last booked big holiday was booked 435 days in advance.

And I will be looking for the next one, roughly the same in advance

janit · 12/07/2025 11:19

Joining the club! It's a running joke amongst my friends. But I love to travel new places and it's what I value spending my money on.

ReluctantBikini · 12/07/2025 11:21

I'm not addicted but pretty close.

I have friends that spend their spare cash on botox/mounjaro/handbags and of course that's fine - their money, their choice.

For me I spend very little on myself. I pay the mortgage on my nice enough house, my pension and a little for savings. Most of my clothes are from the supermarket - everything else goes on travel.

My DC and I have travelled pretty extensively throughout the UK, Europe and Morth America and there is not one trip that I regret us taking. We're just having experiences, time together and adventure.

I'm also pretty keen on the theatre and concerts so that adds up a bit too!

After my DF passed it reinforced that this is the way to do it. I don't remember material things from my childhood (not that there were many), I just remember time. And u want my DC to do that too. Luckily they both have the thirst for travel and adventure.

Prettygreeneyes43 · 12/07/2025 11:22

Yes my in-laws and mil in particular. She gave up work when she had kids over 40 years ago and is now ‘retired’. i think it fills her time. It gets boring as they talk about holidays a lot.

TeamGeriatric · 12/07/2025 11:23

Yes me, constantly planning, I have 2026 pretty much mapped out. I don't book everything, but I always have a mental list and am constantly looking for new ideas, and running through itineraries.

Lesina · 12/07/2025 11:27

Yes me, always have at least 3 holidays booked and plan additional adhoc weekends away. Constantly looking at how I can visit more places using day trips / bank holidays. Have taken a second job for more holiday money. We earn we’ll but with holidays and expensive hobbies I like to have an extra income stream. I love my holiday budgeting spreadsheet. It gives me great joy :)

AvidJadeShaker · 12/07/2025 12:16

Can I join in, I’m an addict!

I returned from Italy 8 days ago and I’ve just booked a solo trip to Turkey leaving on Tuesday! I have a really nice five day trip planned in the second half of August but it just felt too long to wait.

The day I fly back I always think I couldn’t possibly go away again for months and literally the next day I’m like actually a little trip could be nice.

I also love hearing about other people’s trips and get really excited for them when it’s their time to go on holiday.

cheezncrackers · 12/07/2025 12:22

Do you all like to hear about other people's holidays too? I love to hear all about where other people have been, because I'm always filing away ideas for future trips in my head. Most people are not like me though, they're very much of the 'How was your holiday?', 'Great, thanks' and then on to the next topic of conversation. So frustrating! I was details!!!!
