Same place twice?

Firstshoes · 07/07/2025 08:50

We've just returned from a lovely holiday. The hotel was perfect, there were lots of lovely places to eat and loads to do. The hotel was probably the nicest one we've stayed in. We are just browsing for next year. There are so many lovely places and we've never returned to the same hotel twice but we are seriously considering it this time. Have you/would you go back? Going away is so expensive and there is always a gamble with going somewhere new but there are so many places to try!

Couple of places we go back to, one in mainland Spain, one in Tenerife, but not usually the following year, as you say, so many places to go, occasionally it turns out not great but generally if you research a bit first you will be ok

ThisWayLiesMadness · 07/07/2025 09:00

We always go the same place and hotel, have never found anything better and why waste holiday time and money on something we will not enjoy as much?

Have tried other places but they do not compare at all

Firstshoes · 07/07/2025 09:05

That's what we were thinking. The amount of money you spend it would be nice going somewhere we are guaranteed to love. I do however like the anticipation of going somewhere completely different.

Could you go to another hotel in the same chain?

squashyhat · 07/07/2025 09:11

I was always a 'life's too short to go back to the same place' sort of person, but as I've got older I have done so a couple of times and really enjoyed the familiarity.

One is a long-haul destination with a brilliant beach, good restaurants and lovely people. It costs a lot to get there but it's worth it knowing it's going to be great. The other is a UK campsite we know is going to be quiet once the kids have gone back to school with nice walks nearby - there's always somewhere new to explore.

Hopefully I will still visit new places as well in the next few years.

We love Port de Pollenca in Mallorca, and we try and go every year, we try different hotels but we love the resort in general. If you love it why not, it's your holiday and your money - spend it on what you know you'll enjoy.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 07/07/2025 09:13

We went to the sane place 6 years running when the dc were little!

legolegoeverywhereandnotadroptodrink · 07/07/2025 09:19

Yes, we have. I would never have done so in the past. But we have a small child and holidays are far from adventurous these days

TeenToTwenties · 07/07/2025 09:20

I like going back to the same place. You know you'll like the accommodation, and you know the area - places to visit and to eat.
When I do this I relax as soon as I get there rather than taking 2 or 3 days to find my feet.

legolegoeverywhereandnotadroptodrink · 07/07/2025 09:20

I found that we settled in quicker ona second visit. Sussed it all out. Where to eat, where to sit near the pool. We relaxed on day 1 as we had already been

2chocolateoranges · 07/07/2025 09:21

We’ve been to the same resort a few times but not the same hotels, we always try somewhere different to stay.

PutThe · 07/07/2025 09:22

I have in the UK, when DC were tiny. It ticked the boxes and was an easier life!

Abroad, no, but would be open to it. You probably didn't see the place fully in a week or two but even if you did, nothing wrong with wanting to experience it again.

onehorserace · 07/07/2025 09:26

We have destinations we repeat but we are old and lazy and love luxury 😂 we know what they offer in the way of restaurants, beaches, standard of accommodation , shopping etc. I did my adventure travelling when I was young and have no desire now to go to iffy destinations.

Flupflup · 07/07/2025 09:27

We took our children to the perfect place in CalaDOr in Mallorca for many years.
I have been back there independently for a chill a few times , children have revisited and we have taken our Grandchild there ,she loves it.

Jymmi · 07/07/2025 09:28

I was always really snobby about this when I was younger, then I had kids! We've been to the same brits abroad AI twice and i'd go again. We enjoyed it, rooms were big, kids happy so I'm happy!

Whatareyoutalkingaboutnow · 07/07/2025 09:35

We've been back to the same hotel twice in Turkey and in Gran Canaria. It's nice when you find something that suits you.
Out of interest OP, where was it, if you don't mind sharing?

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 07/07/2025 09:52

I was firmly in the ‘never go to the same place twice’ camp until my kids got to about 11. We’ve been to the same hotel every summer since and going again this year. It’s perfect for them and their ages, they have friends who also go back year after year. We can hang out at the adults pool and let them get on with it now.

the food is a let down but we just factor that into cost and eat out for dinner.

We do go to ‘new’ places in half term / Easter but for now and probably the next couple of years we’ll be going back to the same place.

Coincidentally it is in Gran Canaria. Marina Suites hotel. Fabulous hotel. Infinity pool right on the marina. Some really great restaurants nearby. Plenty of excursions, boat trips , ferry to Puerto Mogan for the Friday market. May not be everyone's cup of tea but we absolutely loved it.

It's good to hear others go back to the same place too. It does take away the first couple of days of finding your bearings!

Yes. If you love somewhere and it gives you what you need in a holiday, why risk not getting that by going elsewhere? You'll know when you are ready to try something new.

We go to Puerto Mogan every Christmas. Different accommodation normally each time. Have been for the past 19 years!

We do different Easter and Summer holidays.

I didn't used to go to the same place abroad but wish I had, especially when DC were children.
DH used to joke that I wanted to try everywhere until I found a place I didn't like.
The problem with choosing for children is that the things that are a priority one year have often changed by a year later.

In the UK we did repeat visits to Center Parcs and Yorkshire coast.
Since we have got older and have less energy and more health limitations I acknowledge the appeal of going back to the same place. So we've been twice to the Iberostar in Lanzarote and we are going back to the Protur Playa Cala Millor in September.

That’s like us, we have found the loveliest hotel in Rhodes, the staff are amazing, so attentive and friendly, everything is just clean and tidy, great amenities and it’s in a great location. We have gone back every year for the past 4 years. We have other holidays too but our thoughts are, why risk it? We know what we are going to get, no nasty surprises or disappointment 😀

RosesAndHellebores · 07/07/2025 16:04

Goodness yes. We did Fowey, Fowey, Fowey when the DC were tinies, then we had a change at my insistence, and rented a lovely house on the Cotes Vermeille. DH who is not an avid traveller loved it, looked it up and found it was for sale. He bought it. More than 20 years ago now.

I'd have liked to have travelled more but it beats Filey or Bempton which he'd have been perfectly happy with.

Movinghouseatlast · 07/07/2025 16:08

We go back to the same places! We're always scared nothing else will be as good.

We've just been to the same villa 9 months after we first went there, but in the same village in Greece we've been to 10 times.

We do 3 holidays a year, two to places we've been before and then do one we've never been to.
