Do you consider £275 a night a very expensive hotel?

We are looking to stay at a small family run hotel. It's £275 a night. We can afford it but don't usually spend much more than £150 a night on a room.

The hotel is unique in some respects in that it's in a converted castle and has beautiful views and a lovely outdoor pool. Weather permitting of course.

Not cheap, but not expensive, particuarly if it's split between two people. Sounds an amazing location - I would go for it!

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 29/06/2025 17:33

What country ?
What are the facilities ?

BCBird · 29/06/2025 17:33

Yes I do.

Shinyandnew1 · 29/06/2025 17:33

Yes, I would say that was expensive. We tend to stay in Premier Inns though Grin

RosesAndHellebores · 29/06/2025 17:34

That's a treat night. We'd pay that for somewhere special. We have our special.place with a Michelin starred restaurant which we visit once a year, similarly en-route to to our house in France we have a favourite hotel which is our treat about 300 miles in.

chipsandpeas · 29/06/2025 17:34

depends on location

VegQueen · 29/06/2025 17:37

Yeah I usually aim for £150 but do pay more if it’s a particularly expensive location. I would happily pay £275 for one or two nights in a really lovely hotel though if it was the kind of place we’d be making the most of the setting and facilities! But not for a week long holiday.

marshmallowpuff · 29/06/2025 17:38

Definitely not cheap, but not super-expensive either. My idea of expensive is £400-ish a night. I wouldn’t pay £275 for an average 4-star hotel night, but I would for a special treat.

TooManyCupsAndMugs · 29/06/2025 17:40

I've just looked up how much it costs to stay in the hotel of the White Lotus in Taormina - up to 10k per night! £275 is small beans 😂😂

ANagsHead · 29/06/2025 17:40

It’s not the cheapest, but my local Premier Inn reaches over £200 at times of high demand, so … 🤷‍♀️

Mrsttcno1 · 29/06/2025 17:41

Totally depends on the location and the hotel. For a Travelodge in Sunderland, yeah, that’s expensive. For a 5 star hotel in the Lake District with a spa and pool, £275 is bang average.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 29/06/2025 17:41

It totally depends on location, dates and facilities. You could pay that for a Travelodge or Premier Inn I Edinburgh during the Fringe for example. I think it's about average for a 4* in a capital city, it's expensive if it's somewhere less in demand and run of the mill. It sounds like a unique place which always comes at a price.

NuffSaidSam · 29/06/2025 17:42

It's too expensive for me, but it's not super, ridiculously expensive. I think if you can afford it and it's a special hotel then go for it.

reluctantbrit · 29/06/2025 17:45

For an amazing venue and 1-2 nights - yes.

Saying that, £250 is easy to reach in Bath during Christmas market times for a nice but non-outstanding hotel so it all depends on so many factors.

AndImBrit · 29/06/2025 17:45

No, we target an average of £250 a night when staying abroad - we multi stop on most holidays though, so some nights will be cheap hotels at £100 a night, and we try and treat ourselves to one nice hotel of £300ish a night.

I’d see £275 as acceptable if the hotel was nice enough.

LadyRoughDiamond · 29/06/2025 18:11

It really depends on location. I’ve been looking for a family hotel room for one Saturday night in August - £275 would be the dream! So far somewhere decent is around £400+

TheChosenTwo · 29/06/2025 18:14

No, I’d consider it an average cost of a room for one night, not the cheapest but far from luxury or expensive.

MaryGreenhill · 29/06/2025 18:15

Yes it's expensive imho @turnishe

fluffiphlox · 29/06/2025 18:16

Not particularly expensive these days, unfortunately.

Cynic17 · 29/06/2025 18:19

That sounds standard to mid-range. £1,000 per night is expensive!

minnienono · 29/06/2025 18:23

Depends so much on location, facilities etc. it is on the expensive side for ordinary people but compared to truly expensive hotels it’s downright cheap! (think £10k a night) I’ve quite often had to pay close to £200 for fairly average hotels because that’s the going rate and £300 a night for a better option etc London, New York. Money is so relative to what you earn and your outgoings.

user2848502016 · 29/06/2025 18:24

It depends where and what facilities it has, I would consider it expensive but also it does sound unique so as a one off it’s reasonable.

minnienono · 29/06/2025 18:25

I’ve just booked 10 different hotels for a road trip and they range from £35 (thank you Porto) to £220 in Bilbao (and that was not even that close!)

Tarkan · 29/06/2025 18:26

My mum and I are usually over £200 when we go to the Premier Inn near the Playhouse in Edinburgh every time we go to a show, prices have definitely shot up depending on what’s on nearby so I wouldn’t be surprised at £275 for even a basic hotel now sadly.

DH and I had a night in Dundee recently and the Premier there was going to be £120 so we stayed at the Malmaison which was under £90 instead.

That hotel sounds like it would be lovely though, if reviews are great and you can afford it then I would go and enjoy it.

Icanthinkformyselfthanks · 29/06/2025 18:31

@turnishe , you don’t specify which country and what’s included which makes a huge difference but aside of a Premier Inn type establishment in the UK I would view that as the minimum I would expect to pay per night for a hotel room and my expectations would be limited.
