Do you consider £275 a night a very expensive hotel?

We are looking to stay at a small family run hotel. It's £275 a night. We can afford it but don't usually spend much more than £150 a night on a room.

The hotel is unique in some respects in that it's in a converted castle and has beautiful views and a lovely outdoor pool. Weather permitting of course.

Yes, I would say that was expensive. We tend to stay in Premier Inns though

Likewise. You know where you are with a Premier Inn.

Doitrightnow · 29/06/2025 18:38

I consider anything above £100/night too expensive for me. So yes.

But I don't view it as expensive if considering the price of top hotels. I know loads are way more expensive. Just too expensive for me.

indoorplantqueen · 29/06/2025 18:39

It depends where it is and how many people. For a family room somewhere decent I’d say it’s reasonable.

Wisenotboring · 29/06/2025 18:39

No. A quick look at different hotel prices at different market points will show you that. However, if it's too much don't stretch yourself. I'm sure a place at 150 a night will also be lovely.

sanityisamyth · 29/06/2025 18:41

Massively. I usually spend about £50 a night on a travelodge or something (except when I go to CP where it’s more than that per night!)

Trovindia · 29/06/2025 18:43

It's more than I'm paying for an entire three bed apartment with sea view, outdoor space and access to a pool so yes, I think it's expensive but then I don't really like hotels and spend as little time in and money on them as possible.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 29/06/2025 18:44

Compared to the £192 it cost me to stay in the Colliers Wood Premier Inn last week, I'd say that was very good value for money.

Same.

I would consider that expensive, yes, but I'm not a hotel sort of a person.
I'm sure people will be able to find lots of places that cost more. All depends what you want to compere with.

Newbutoldfather · 29/06/2025 18:50

I really have no idea why people ask this kind of a question.

For the majority of people it is, but a fair minority on here will pay £500-1,000 per night (and a few will pay even more).

Some people just have much more disposable income than others.

Ultimately, if you can afford it and you think it’s worth it, it’s worth it.

I don’t think any holiday, though, should be paid for by debt or using the ba at if amount of money that you keep for a rainy day.

Marble10 · 29/06/2025 18:58

No, it’s a mid priced hotel. For a night / weekend away with DH, I try to stick to less than £350 a night. With kids, under £200 a night.
I can’t justify a £500 plus per night hotel, I’m not that luxurious 😆

Jigaliga · 29/06/2025 19:00

Its kind of how long is a piece of string as everyone's means and budget will be different.

Personally I would never spend more than 150 on a hotel.

Uifpdjjjj · 29/06/2025 19:02

In the uk I wouldn’t expect somewhere overly nice on £250 a night.

VioletandMauve · 29/06/2025 19:05

No, not expensive at all!

McCartneyOnTheHeath · 29/06/2025 19:06

Yes that's expensive. I would only pay that much for a room if I was absolutely desperate and there was nothing cheaper available.

Time2beme · 29/06/2025 19:06

Wow, I'm clearly out of touch. We had a Monday to Friday holiday last week for less than that for 4 people. It was self-catering.

I think it all depends on your budget.

Blimey. I’ve stayed in lots of nice hotels in the UK for far less.

MarySueSaidBoo · 29/06/2025 19:09

£500 a night is my general limit per night but I want something amazing for that.

harriethoyle · 29/06/2025 19:24

@turnishe I NEED a link - please feel free to DM if you don’t want to post publicly!

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 29/06/2025 19:26

No, i would not consider that expensive.

Mt563 · 29/06/2025 19:30

I really can't see when I'd pay that much but £150 is my limit and over £100 makes me balk. I just sleep in my hotel room and even a spa doesn't seem worth an extra £100+ for me.

TiramisuTastesDreamy · 29/06/2025 19:37

Yes- my thinking is I would only pay that much for a special treat…..the only exceptions being in an expensive city, or a location where prices are pushed up due to an event/ concert

Steelworks · 29/06/2025 19:40

Depends time of year and location. We just stayed in a seaside town for one night for £180 (including breakfast) fur two people, one night. That was cheap. Most places were £200-£300 .

However, out of the high season in a non tourist spot, I’d want a good hotel for that price.

MiddleAgedDread · 29/06/2025 19:41

Yes, but then I consider anything over £60 for a premier inn to be expensive!! It’s not so much an affordability thing, it’s just that I travel for the experience of seeing a place and a hotel is just somewhere to sleep and shower, I don’t really travel for a hotel “experience”.

TheLostStargazer · 29/06/2025 20:07

Id try to find something cheaper as I’m a bargain hunter

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 29/06/2025 20:21

Sounds like a good price for all you're getting
