Would you go solo?

I've got the chance to go away solo for six nights in July. Mediterranean country. Staying in an apartment owned by a friend's parent who lives close by. 10 min walk to the beach and small town with bars and restaurants. 30 mins from the airport. Pool on the complex too.

A week of R&R but on my own. I've never done that type of holiday alone before but I like my own company. Friend's parent would do airport run and be on hand if I needed anything but I'd be left alone to read and relax.

Would you go? DS is 18 and away that week with GF. Dog can go to my parents'. Leave already booked from work. It's affordable.

Yes I would. If you think a week is too much can you go for 5 days?

CharlotteRumpling · 05/06/2025 13:54

Yes. Been doing this for 25 years now.

Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate · 05/06/2025 13:57

Absolutely! I'd be there in a flash.. sounds like a dream!

Sjb85 · 05/06/2025 13:58

You couldn't convince me not to go. This sounds like a dream come true!

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 05/06/2025 13:58

Yes, absolutely. It's long been one of my fantasies, to go and enjoy some solitude in a lovely Mediterranean resort.

MagpiePi · 05/06/2025 14:00

I would, I'm single, so no choice! 6 nights of just R&R would be too long for me but it would be ok if you are the kind of person that is happy to chat to strangers, or to go that long without having a meaningful conversation with anyone.

I'd want to go and see some sights or go on some walks or something rather than sitting on a beach or poolside the whole time.

purplecorkheart · 05/06/2025 14:00

I would in the situation you describe. I probably would make a point of taking my friends parents out for a meal and would make a point of going out and about everyday. I went away for an event a while ago and ended up spending a full day in the hotel and found it a bit lonely.

SummertimeFeelingFine · 05/06/2025 14:02

Definitely. Do it!

S0j0urn4r · 05/06/2025 14:02

Go!

Weepixie · 05/06/2025 14:03

I wouldn’t think twice about it but then I’ma confirmed solo traveller though I do also travel with my family at times.

vincettenoir · 05/06/2025 14:05

In a heartbeat. I’d have a stack of books and my favourite cossies packed already.

IndigoBluey · 05/06/2025 14:05

Without a doubt, you’re in a fortunate position OP, many would jump at the chance. I love solo holidays I think it’s probably my favourite thing to do. The sheer joy of doing whatever whenever you want and the thrill of having no plans and taking in the days and nights as you fancy

pilates · 05/06/2025 14:07

Yes how lovely

MiddleAgedDread · 05/06/2025 14:10

Absolutely!! Sounds great :)

TravellingSpoon · 05/06/2025 14:19

God yes, in a heartbeat.

Go! You will have an amazing time.

Cynic17 · 05/06/2025 14:20

Of course! It sounds utterly fabulous.

Cheesystick · 05/06/2025 14:43

Hell yes. The dream

butterfly1234 · 05/06/2025 14:44

Yes. Why wouldn't you?

Gcsunnyside23 · 05/06/2025 14:48

I would love it and you might too. I'd just take the risk that worst case I'm bored in a nice place

REP22 · 05/06/2025 14:50

I would. Lovely opportunity. Have fun!

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/06/2025 14:52

100% but I would probably hire a car because I would definitely get bored in a small town with just a beach.

Radiatorvalves · 05/06/2025 14:53

Yes! I can be packed in 10 minutes. Swimmers, passport and kindle….

Of course you should go for it OP. Enjoy. X

zenae · 05/06/2025 14:58

Sounds great, everything is covered at your end, you have someone close by just in case. It couldn't be better!

I'm older now late 60 and my DH is not up to travelling much now, which I totally understand due to his health and mobility issues. I on the other hand am raring to go! So given that my friends go away with their families and grandkids (we don't have children), I have decided to try a trip on my own. DH is delighted as he can mess the house up and do what he likes lol whilst I'm away. 😊

Now where shall I go? Might open a thread for that looking for suggestions!

cestlavielife · 05/06/2025 15:18

Of course! If you can get a bus or train alone in UK you can fly and enjoy some time in another country. Take a book and or Netflix download audio books etc

HerbertVonDoodlebug · 05/06/2025 15:20

OMG yes. A week’s worth of books and Netflix - no problem.
