Long haul October

Mrspopper · 02/06/2025 15:18

our kids are going to get 2 weeks at October half term from next year and it’s also my DH big birthday.
my research suggests Mexico, Thailand and lots of carribean might be wet! As it’s going to be quite expensive I’d like somewhere that we are fairly likely to have sun.
we don’t want to to do Dubai
Any other ideas?
Thank you!

Florida!

Forgottenmyphone · 02/06/2025 15:55

I’ve been to Bali in October and had beautifully warm days, a bit of intermittent rainfall (which wasn’t much of a problem) and plenty of sunshine.
Goa has pretty decent weather in October.

IDontLikePinaColadas · 02/06/2025 16:03

South Africa or Namibia and tag on a safari? Although if you just want to chill by a beach and relax for two weeks how about the Maldives?

BIWI · 02/06/2025 16:06

We used to take the DC to Barbados in October half term. There would be occasional rain showers, but they were always short-lived - mainly the DC just stayed in the pool!

UK2HK · 02/06/2025 16:33

Hong Kong
We're rather sunny into the winter months.

LEMM99 · 02/06/2025 16:42

Not long haul but Turkey and Eqypt should be warm and dry in October.

LetsGoFly4Kite · 02/06/2025 16:46

We went to Egypt last year, stayed at Neverland resort... 100% reccomend!

user1497787065 · 02/06/2025 16:47

We really enjoyed Oman.

Newbie8918 · 02/06/2025 16:51

Thailand and Bali will come to the end of the rainy season in Oct. The later into Oct the better. It will also be a more bearable temp for little ones.

NotjustCo2 · 02/06/2025 16:51

Japan
South Korea
Tanzania
India

My top Oct spots. Japan is so amazing, it’s a close run to Tanzania

MamaBee1111 · 02/06/2025 16:59

Japan - we went last October half term for 2 weeks and it was amazing!

3awesomestars · 02/06/2025 17:02

Mauritius coming into the better time to go - best place I’ve ever been with kids.
Bali is amazing but 19 hour ish flight with connections is a lot, their rainy season is nov - mar
Safari
Florida will be hurricane risk
Egypt will be hot - I don’t like it have been 4 times and been horribly ill 3 of them but lots love it

Caramelcap · 02/06/2025 17:19

The Gambia 100%

Stacksnacks · 02/06/2025 17:55

We did Egypt last October with the kids, weather was incredible, very hot, but nice breeze so wasn’t unbearable. Kids loved it, the staff were amazing to them, and the flight was only around 5.5 hours.

Do you want to stay in the resort or get out and see things? Mozambique and Zanzibar have nice beaches. I went to Zanzibar in November and it was dry, not been to Mozambique, but there were some nice looking hotels if you have the budget. I did have quite a wet early November trip to Cuba, caught the edge of hurricane and it was rubbish weather for a week, and then nice for a week. I think I was quite unlucky though. I might be tempted to risk Mexico, as there are sites to see even if it's not beach weather.

Bellie710 · 02/06/2025 18:04

Our kids get 2 weeks in October we have been to Florida, Mexico and Thailand first 2 weeks of the month and always have great weather. Last year we were in Mexico and it rained the first day for about an hour then occasionally overnight Thailand was the same. Florida rains a bit more often but only for about 10 minutes then it's sunny again.
We are going to Vietnam this October and I expect it will be very similar to Thailand.

Thanks. It would be last two weeks of October. Any hotels you’d reccomend? We are in Thailand for Christmas but it’s my husband’s favourite country so I’m sure he wouldn’t mind two holidays there!

Maybe a mixture. Zanzibar is a great shout I’ve always wanted to go!

a bit fly and flop, a few trips out but armed guards on the beach. It was a few years ago though.

You could go to Senegal and local market, must be some sea based activities too.

Zanzibar and a bit of safari, it’s gorgeous and Stone town is really interesting.

We absolutely loved Centara Ao Nang Beach Resort in Krabi, we split our time between Khao Lak and Krabi but much preferred Krabi. Mexico although it was lovely the resorts are all miles awayfrom anything, we much prefer being able to get out and about which could just be the area we picked but unless you went on a tour you were stuck in the resort.
