Long haul October

Mrspopper · 02/06/2025 15:18

our kids are going to get 2 weeks at October half term from next year and it’s also my DH big birthday.
my research suggests Mexico, Thailand and lots of carribean might be wet! As it’s going to be quite expensive I’d like somewhere that we are fairly likely to have sun.
we don’t want to to do Dubai
Any other ideas?
Thank you!

Mauritius is lovely in Oct. Especially in the north of the island. There are some lovely resorts. Definitely recommend the Beachcomber resorts.
gorgeous beaches and lots to see and do

I would also recommend Mauritius in October. Lovely time to visit. Shangri-La was very family friendly and luxurious.

Japan and South Africa would be my top picks for October. Egypt, Oman good then too.

Turkey not long haul but would be a great time for a longer holiday covering sights as well as sea and sun.

Mexico was nice last October half term, it rained on occasion but tropical style, maybe for 15 minutes and then sun again and it was always 28 to 32 degrees. We loved it for all the activities for children, xcaret, xel ha, snorkeling with turtles, mayan ruins - fan holiday! Also no seaweed in mexico at that time of year which is horrid in the spring.
Otherwise, we've also loved florida, the gulf coast there is beautiful, but I think it'll have the same weather as mexico then. We are looking at africa/mauritius/zanzibar for Oct 2026 which looks a good time to combine a safari and a beach trip

Zanzibar!

We always take any long haul holidays in Oct/Nov. Last year we went to Florida (before Trump got in). Previously we've visited

China (mixed weather eg Shanghai warm, Beijing cooler)
Japan
HK
Thailand
Singapore
Bintan
West coast US

All decent weather

Also Morocco; not long haul, but fairly decent weather.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on Bintan as we are going and no one I know has ever heard of it!

I assumed that was Bhutan and auto correct

laesosalt · 03/06/2025 21:18

Hawaii or Costa Rica

Loved it. We combined it with Singapore, as it’s so easy to reach by ferry. We didn’t see much of the island, bar husband golfing, plus a visit to the local shops and restaurants. We were there to relax (stayed at the Banyan Tree).

Ah brilliant, that’s our plan too. Pool time, golf for husband. Then to a tiny island off the mainland for more lazing around.

We've been to Thailand in Oct and going again this year. We did have rain last year a few times but didn't last long.
Last year we just did Phuket but previous times done Bangkok and a beach. This time might do Bangkok and the highlands.
I'd love to do Japan though.

Watch out for the monkeys! They steal golf balls!
