Can anyone recommend a bag that good for a 6 day trip. Would prefer a trolly one but would consider a rucksack type too

Just an aside.. The "under seat" one is super diddy - that's the free one - "small cabin bag"
Do you mean the "large cabin bag"? (paid extra)

TheAutumnCrow · 22/05/2025 20:48

Yeah there’s a small under seat one that’s free. The slightly larger ones that go in the overhead lockers have to be paid for, unless you pay extra for ‘speedy boarding’.

And they usually do check at the gate.

TheNightingalesStarling · 22/05/2025 20:50

Cabin Max bags are good. Just make sure you pick the right size.

helpfulperson · 22/05/2025 20:51

I can get my 25 litre daysack under the seat but that is all. for six days you either need to be doing washing or buying an overhead locker bag.

fataroundthemiddle · 22/05/2025 20:52

Just dress in all of your 6 days worth of clothes then a small bag with toothpaste toothbrush and change of undies should do it

Hoolihan · 22/05/2025 20:55

I've got the Cabin Max Metz bag. Exactly the right size and super roomy.

I have this one, it's the right size for the Wizz Air free bag too. I never travel without it, it's deceptively spacious!

You won’t get any normal wheeled suitcase under the seat. Possibly a trunki but assume you are talking about proper luggage.

if it’s truly an under seat (free) bag you need something like this is good and surprising spacious. Cabin Bags 40x20x25cm for Ryanair... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BLVNFMNJ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

For six days suspect you should be looking at paying for a carry on bag for the overhead locker Cabin Max Anode Cabin Suitcase... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08VJJ6JN7?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Just remember to check weight though as it will quickly reach 10 kg - I’ve never had mine weighed but could be an expensive experience if they did.

Remember too that some “free bag” tickets are literally one bag only so if you can’t stuff your handbag in there too you would again be charged!

Links don’t earn me anything by the way. Just the products I have bought and used.

I went for 2 trips this year, both on easyJet, first was 6 days, 2nd was 8 days, and I refused to pay for a bag. Both times I used this IKEA backpack, with a set of 3 mesh packing cubes, and it worked perfectly.

The packing cubes are a game changer - I used the smallest one for underwear, the middle one for tops and the largest for trousers. Keeps everything compressed and organised. Then, I just had my toiletries bag and a plastic wallet with documents. There was even space for a few souvenirs on the way home!!

I used to travel for work, so I am a bit of an expert at packing lightly...

@OkJose love that thank you

The EasyJet free size is more generous than Ryanair. I just bought one at my local market in the right size but Amazon should have some too.

I find it quite spacious and plenty of room for 3/4 nights (I pack very lightly though) but 6 nights is probably a stretch so I'd seriously consider paying for the larger size cabin bag as well.

If you want to stick to just an underwear bag, this might work

Decorhate · 22/05/2025 21:21

Damn autocorrect! I'm sure you want to take more than underwear!!

mumma24 · 22/05/2025 21:22

@PeatandDieselfan I love to use packing cubes too. thank you for your great idea

Funnily enough I have just bought this very bag (after an MN recommendation) and it's brilliant. I did a trial packing for a week away and it holds more than enough. It also has compression straps which mean you can fit even more in, and really good pockets and compartments. I was going to pay for the extra cabin bag but I really won't need to.

The colour I bought (petrol blue) also has a little hidden zipped pocket at the bottom of the back which will safely hold a phone/passport etc, which not all the colours do - eg the Atlantic Blue, which I bought to compare but will be sending back.

I thought that too, until a couple of months ago, when I saw a French couple wheeling underseat-sized hard cases around. Just like a classic wheely bag that goes in the overhead locker, but smaller and with a relatively longer handle. Here's one that's not quite the same, but it still has a handle and wheels, and it's compatible with Ryanair (and EasyJet are more generous with their underseat dimensions).

We travel multiple times a year and always use these

They are the exact size for Ryanair, so comfortably fit EasyJet. The straps are
comfortable and the rear pocket is handy for a laptop or tablet. DD has the one with the external charging port and finds it invaluable.

We also use packing cubes to really make the most of internal space. It works well for us.

andtheworldrollson · 23/05/2025 08:15

For 6 days you want to maximise to packing space I would have thought that wheel system would take up valuable space ?

DoNotAdjustYourSex · 23/05/2025 09:27

Make absolutely sure that whatever you use does fit their regulations. I recently saw someone at Gatwick with a tiny wheeled bag, she was on her return trip, so the bag was allowed through as an underseat bag, which was indeed where it was stored on her outbound flight, but she was asked to put it in the bag checker, and the wheels wouldn’t totally fit within the frame so was charged £45 for the return flight.

I was embarrassed, as I had a soft rucksack, full to the brim, and frankly my day to day work handbag is larger than the case she was trying to get into the frame.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 23/05/2025 09:27

I am currently in Spain on a two week trip and took the cabin max underseat one, got from Amazon.
i have access to a washing machine though…
Also, I bring a few old things destined for charity so I can replace with anything that I’ve bought on the trip!
I always take a small cross body bag too for passports and sunglasses and never been quibbled.
