Can anyone recommend a bag that good for a 6 day trip. Would prefer a trolly one but would consider a rucksack type too

Cabin Max 30 litre is perfect for Easyjet but of course too big for money grabbing Ryanair. Anyway I've managed a week with the Cabin Max on several occasions. I take a tiny crochet cross body bag for phone and passport and make sure I leave a smidge of room for it in the Cabinmax if I'm challenged.

Too big.

It needs to be 402025, that one is 402030

Also, I have one that is Ryanair size, with wheels and a long handle, but I've found the handle etc takes up space, so you're better off getting one without wheels to be honest.

I have one without wheels too, but I don't think I could do six days with it.

No it is not. easyJet specifically is 45 x 36 x 20. I flew with it 10 days ago. You are looking at Ryanair. I

I’ve flown three times with EasyJet recently and got a backpack from Amazon that is an EasyJet permitted size.
On the trip I’m on now I fitted in two shorts, five tops, toilet bag x2, underwear, PJs, hammam towel, bathing suit and hat plus three magazines, book and kindle. Although I have access to a washing
machine, I’ve bought the right amount of clothes.

ParmaVioletTea · 23/05/2025 15:25

I bought a cheapo Primark under seat bag with wheels - I can wear it as a back pack as well. Fits more than my day to day backpack & while it's not hugely robust, it did me for 5 days recently. Winter clothes would be tricky, but summer clothes not so much.

ParmaVioletTea · 23/05/2025 15:28

This one from Primark:

I've just bought the cabin max memphis from amazon. They do one for easyjet (30l) and a different size for ryanair. Similar to ones posted already but has an inbuilt compression feature/straps. Recommended by my brother who travels a lot.

Trumpton · 23/05/2025 18:02

This one! I cut the teddy pocket off. I travel a lot with EasyJet (island life!) and they never even bother to check as they know it fits! I see many a business man with them as well.

Why do packing cubes make a difference?

Ellepff · 23/05/2025 18:18

Most children’s school bags fit - but my backpack is about a cm too long - so if I have cabin baggage paid for they let it under, but for personal item only I need to bring another one. If your personal item is under the size and you have a cross body bag, fold up a shopping bag that fits both in case you’re challenged on a one bag policy.

Why do packing cubes make a difference?

Because they compress everything - well at least the ones I bought for our last trip do.

Put your stuff in the bags, seal the top and then stand on them to squish all the air out

My underseat bag for a recent 2 week trip had:

Toiletries (minimal)
6 dresses
10 pairs of knickers
3 pairs of socks
Spare bra
3 t shirts
Lightweight cardigan.
Cotton dressing gown
Swimming costume.
Kindle
Adaptor plug and charging leads.
2 weeks worth of prescribed medication
Pair of Crocs

Obviously it's a bit more tricky if you are going somewhere cold, but I have never needed to take anything larger and will definitely be using the packing cubes again.

What brand of packing cubes did you use? I'd be interested to try 'compression' cubes rather than the normal sort, which didn't do it for me as I could get more in without them.

I'm also wondering about compression bags. I don't mean compression cubes or vacuum bags, neither of which I want, but this sort of thing:
Packmate 4 Piece Travel Roll Storage Bags | Robert Dyas

Does anyone have any experience of these (or comparable ones), and do you think freezer bags with 'zips' would be just as good?

CancelTheSkip · 23/05/2025 18:57

I used these from Amazon (it'll take a while for the image to be reviewed by MN)

I managed to get 5 summer dresses in the larger sized bag.

I have one of these - https://itluggage.com/products/convertible-underseat-black.

the wheels are removable so you get the maximum size to pack. It's easyJet dimensions.

Weird, I could have sworn the op was asking about Ryanair! With so many people mentioning Ryanair I guess I got confused!

Osprey Daylite 26+6

its made to go under the seat for flying, opens like a suitcase but is a rucksack. yeah it’s a bit more pricey than a regular rucksack, but it’s super comfy to wear and comes with a lifetime guarantee.

would recommend compression cubes as well, although personally I use dry bags instead of compression cubes and just squish them. (Just because I have a system with my dry bags that works well) but compression cubes is more normal!

sometimes cheaper offers not direct from osprey, but here’s the bag detail. (Other colours available as well, again sometimes shops still have colours that osprey website is sold out of)

Highly recommend!

Realised the osprey website is out of stock, but here is it on Amazon (or just Google the bag, there’s a bunch of places that have it in stock, in different colours!)

These are what we use for EasyJet and I can easy get a weeks worth of clothes in it without compression or packing cubes - even for winter European city breaks

I always wear the heaviest clothes and shoes - so winter coat and walking shoes/boots and heaviest jumper ( ontop of a tee shirt ) for the journey - just strip down to the tee when boarded.

Then everything else is rolled and tucked in using every inch - socks tucked into shoes etc . I only take mini toiletries , never a hair dryer. I have the cube travel plugs which have the USB ports as well.

Also have the luxury of travelling with DH who travels even lighter then me so stuff gets shared about - there's room in his bag to take my cross body bag if they insist at the gate

Ryanair - given up with them forever changing the goal posts so book in one piece of hold luggage - its cheaper in the long run as whilst cabin luggage may get through in the UK - coming home they are stricter and Ive witnessed so many rows with staff that I won't take the risk. Recent trip back from Krakow and they were stopping and charging people

Funnily enough I have just bought this very bag (after an MN recommendation) and it's brilliant. I did a trial packing for a week away and it holds more than enough. It also has compression straps which mean you can fit even more in, and really good pockets and compartments. I was going to pay for the extra cabin bag but I really won't need to.

The colour I bought (petrol blue) also has a little hidden zipped pocket at the bottom of the back which will safely hold a phone/passport etc, which not all the colours do - eg the Atlantic Blue, which I bought to compare but will be sending back.

I agree that the Cabin Max bag is brilliant - also use it on daily outings/bike rides at destination. Fits all clothes in that 1 adult needs for a week for a warm holiday!

MaybeNotBob · 24/05/2025 11:35

Also, I've given up on the packing cubes. I find it easier just to roll everything and pack them tightly.

I have a plastic wash bag with travel sizes of everything I need, and one of these chargers;
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0D6XXQ24Z?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

Plenty of room.

Delphiniumandlupins · 24/05/2025 22:23

I don't mind doing a little hand-washing if I'm somewhere hot enough to dry in a day. Also, don't take pyjamas just wear each day's t-shirt to sleep in.

Remember, any wheels on your luggage count towards the measurements.

MaybeNotBob · 24/05/2025 22:35

You can always take a couple of washing sheets like these;

www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09PY9W61Z?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

I've just got some to use this summer, but I haven't tried them yet.

Anything that ,looks like a cleverly sized mini suitcase is, ime, far more likely to:

  • be checked to the hold if the flight is quite full (basically all shorthaul flights are)
  • be challenged over size even if its correct
  • be weighed

Something like the ikea one actually holds more and tends to weigh less, and the style is much less likely to get challenged.
