Can anyone recommend a bag that good for a 6 day trip. Would prefer a trolly one but would consider a rucksack type too

I always use a 30l backpack with packing cubes. Works a treat.
Also, I usually buy cheap underwear & chuck it to have a bit of room on the flight back... far from ideal, but needs must!!

Also, I bring a few old things destined for charity so I can replace with anything that I’ve bought on the trip!

@Twoshoesnewshoes

This is a brilliant tip.

We've recently flown long haul for 2 weeks and even though the luggage allowance was generous, we had 4 internal budget flights during our stay so we were restricted to an underseat rucksack anyway.

I wore trainers that were at the end of their useful life, took a couple of cheapo t-shirts and a beach dress that had definitely seen better days. These got jettisoned on the last day so there was a lot of extra room in the backpack for the way back.

TBF we travel light anyway and don't tend to buy a lot of souvenirs etc but it was great to know that there would be a bit of additional wiggle room for anything we did buy, instead of thinking "that will never fit in the rucksack"

This one!

Cabin Max Mini

Too big.

It needs to be 402025, that one is 402030

Also, I have one that is Ryanair size, with wheels and a long handle, but I've found the handle etc takes up space, so you're better off getting one without wheels to be honest.

I have one without wheels too, but I don't think I could do six days with it.

If you want some sturdy but light packing cubes, try Mia Tui - they do some great ones at a good price (I also have some ancient Eagle Creek ones that are still as good as new 30+ years down the line, but they are now very expensive to buy new so getting more for my dc now they are grown up and need their own, the Mia Tui ones are the perfect blend of being good quality but also very reasonable cost).

They also have some nice travel bags and some fold up bags that can be used as under seat bags - have a look on their website (miatui.com) as they have videos showing all their bags and how’s they fit into the different ‘check your bag size’ thingys at the airports. they are handy if you want to have a nice day bag with you for the holiday too or if you end up bringing more home than anticipated! I also use their sponge bags with lots of pockets in for organising cables and tech gubbins when travelling as well as for their original sponge bag purpose and handbag organisers for keeping things organised when switching between bags easily.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 23/05/2025 10:33

If they check dimensions at the gate (IIRC Ryanair do) be careful! I’ve seen someone have his bag refused since it didn’t fit, unless he paid for it to go as hold luggage. Plus of course holding everybody else up. It’s not as if their specifications weren’t crystal clear.

In the past I’ve managed by wearing a couple of thicker top layers, and putting them in the overhead locker once on board.

SusanLittle76 · 23/05/2025 11:06

EasyJet publish their rules for sizes of bags when you book. the 'free' one is tiny and like a laptop style bag. Even for a larger rucksack if to avoid picking up cases they charge you for a 'large cabin ' bag. I take a small case from a brand called Antler but i had to pay extra for this and last time i got the full open and empty, smalls and all, in front of everyone. I think wiping it down with a baby wipe after i got it from the loft fired a false positive for narcotics from what i have read.

MaturingCheeseball · 23/05/2025 11:17

Frankly it’s much less stressful to buy a hold bag: that entitles you to a piece of hand luggage too.

I went on EasyJet recently and I was not allowed small cabin bag and a tiny crossbody flat handbag. It was even hidden under my jacket and they spotted it!

I also went to Palma on Ryanair and it was a relief to have paid for hold. I sailed through and every other passenger was having to pay up because they were exceeding the allowance. Some were swearing at the staff, but the rools is the rools.

Just dress in all of your 6 days worth of clothes then a small bag with toothpaste toothbrush and change of undies should do it

If only .....

Tbf Ryanair change the rules frequently. Like the Gatwick lady above, I got stung for my tiny wheeled bag that fits comfortably under the seat because the wheels (but not the case) were millimetres over. I’d used it many times previously without issue so it was a genuine error on my part. I use Ryanair probably a dozen times a year and they are very inconsistent with their baggage policy, if you look like you can pay you’re more likely to be challenged. I’ve seen some passengers eg students with massive rucksacks go through without a murmur. It seems to help if you’re a young and pretty female too!

MaturingCheeseball · 23/05/2025 12:58

No wonder I got challenged 😭 - old hag here

Fluffyhoglets · 23/05/2025 13:10

I bought a 2 wheeled little hold all from B&M last year which was tagged to be suitable for Ryan air under seat. Not flown with Ryan air yet to test it out but it measures correctly.

It's definitely smaller than my Easy Jet under seat case I got as well (4 wheeled)

marriednotdead · 23/05/2025 13:18

I recently got this one from Primark as I wanted one that would double as a day bag and would be weather resistant. It was great, really sturdy and fitted more than I expected.

eurochick · 23/05/2025 13:55

That’s too big for easyJet or Ryanair according to the dimensions posted above.

I use this one

AVIO Jett 45cm Cabin Suitcase – Lightweight Carry-On Luggage with Spinner Wheels, Telescopic Handle & Lock – Airline-Approved Cabin Bag for Ryanair, easyJet, BA & More : Amazon.co.uk: Fashion

it's great and I can get loads in - wheels along really nicely too. I've also got the cabin max ruck sack one - it's huge but i found it heavy and cumbersome to carry

Too big for Ryanair I’m afraid. And they are really toughening up on checks. I was charged £60 for my bag because although the case and handle would fit in their sizer, the wheels wouldn’t quite. And as you’ve already passed through the gate and checked in you don’t have the option of booking online. You can take that size on as cabin luggage and pay the relevant charge when you book but it won’t count as hand luggage.

Trickedbyadoughnut · 23/05/2025 14:34

Don't forget that there is also a 15 kg limit on the underseat bag - some of the cases are 2.5 kg already and with packing cubes and a rucksack I've been pretty close to the limit a few times!

Sparkleswirl · 23/05/2025 14:46

I use the underseat bag for a lot of trips. Easyjet is much more generous than Ryanair and the soft backpacks you can buy to the right dimensions work really well. You won't get a suitable wheeled case though.

They haven’t introduced weighing yet, thankfully. I am quite good at making my heavy bag look weightless, at least till I’m on board!

Like PP I use this one:

https://cabinmax.com/collections/easyjet/products/copy-of-manhattan-backpack-30l-rpet-edition-made-from-recycled-plastic-bottles-45x35x20cm-easyjet-compatible

I bought it specifically to travel on an easyJet flight, and it’s great. It has wheels, and also has straps so you can use it as a backpack if you want to (although personally I think it’s a bit heavy for that)

I prefer this one to the Metz too. It's got a handy laptop pocket at the back.

But if you want a wheelie one there's also the hybrid - https://cabinmax.com/collections/ryanair/products/metz-20l-hybrid-40x20x25cm?variant=43742975525079

Metz 20L Hybrid Cabin Bag with Wheels 40x20x25 cm

The Metz 20L hybrid backpack is a 40x20x25cm bag for Ryanair. Use as a trolley or backpack with a spacious design, padded straps, and travel pockets. Shop now!

@MaybeNotBob the one I have is a wheeled one!

MaybeNotBob · 23/05/2025 15:01

So it is! I misread - I have the Manhattan without wheels, and it's great.
