EasyJet 15kg bag cost 😢

I’ve just booked a holiday to Sorrento through Love Holidays, flying with EasyJet. Included in the price was only a cabin bag - it didn’t specify dimensions. Now I have order confirmation through I can see that it is only a handbag that is included so I went to add a 15kg bag - Martin Lewis says this is from £6.99 - and found that it is an extra £38.24 EACH WAY 😭. Nearly £80 each for my partner and I!

is there any way I can get this cheaper? Can’t believe it.

@workingcockercheaper but less weight and I need all the weight I can get - shoes, hair tools, clothes towels etc! Also this is a new partner so not sure I’m comfortable sharing a suitcase just yet.

Why do you need towels ? unless your camping 99.9 of where your staying provide towels
also check where your staying to see if hairdryer provided.

Beach towels 🤷🏻‍♀️

It’s not a handbag I have gone on a two week holiday with a bag the size that they allow and I’ve just come back from a holiday now doing the same go and look up the dimensions and order one from Amazon they’re about 15 quid and you can get loads in it just pack carefully!

We have bought these kind of bags which fit under the seat. I’ve been away for 4 night with these and it’s fine as you can fit quite a lot in them. In OP’s scenario I’d share one bigger hold bad as it isn’t much more expensive than the 15kg I don’t think.

Beach towels 🤷🏻‍♀️

you can buy them there or your hotel provides them. just bring your towel from hotel room with ya if not and ask for more 🤷‍♀️ never ever need to bring towels on holidays

LIZS · 19/05/2025 08:42

Get a microfibre towel which rolls up very small. But there aren’t many beaches in Sorrento anyway.

AnnaMagnani · 19/05/2025 08:58

Towels??? For a break to Sorrento?

Leave the towels behind at least.

Would be cheaper for one 32kg bag.

Do EasyJet offer this option ? I’ve never seen a luggage option greater than 25kg for short haul low cost flights.

brightbreezy6 · 18/05/2025 23:04

@LIZSthank you, unfortunately booking seats doesn’t seem to get you more luggage. I can’t see any option for speedy boarding, only fast track through security- not sure if I’m just being thick?

Can’t comment specifically for EasyJet but assume it’s similar to Ryanair where the options are for a check in bag, or for the larger cabin bag which then gives you priority boarding so that people with the little cases have got their cases in the overhead lockers before people get on with just the little rucksacks and coats so they can ensure there’s enough space in the overheads and they aren’t holding other travellers up boarding if everyone was to get on at the same time. You don’t gain anything from priority boarding as your seat is allocated beforehand.

AlphaApple · 19/05/2025 09:31

Is £80 that much in the whole scheme of things? Just pay it and have a lovely holiday.

brightbreezy6 · 19/05/2025 10:34

@AlphaAppleit might not be for you but it is for me. The reason we chose Love Holidays is because it’s supposed to be a low cost option.

Some seat bookings just get you the seat and others give you the bells and whistles too, although these can sell out. They are the more expensive seats (front and exit rows). Have another look and see whether any are still available on your flights.

It is but it clearly states in its terms and conditions what is included you need to read the fine print in great detail. Your luggage is not always included. Low cost airlines have been charging for luggage for years, its mentioned i say about every month on Mumsnet and in the media
You need to look at what the prices are and decide what you can afford, then you need to look at what you want to bring on your holidays and see what can fit. For me i dont bring any hair styling tools, i pay for a blow dry before i go, then my hair survives a good few days, more likely get another one while there or else its stuck up in a bun. I buy samples for my make up, decant into pots what else i need ( trinny make up is great for travelling) Decide on a colour pallet bring clothes you can mix and match for day and night, shoes for walking and then evening if required. You do not need towels, suncream can be bought there or duty free. Hotel provides shower gel. Plenty of tips can be found on your tube, instagram etc

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 19/05/2025 10:47

@brightbreezy6
I would recommend you clarify the exact size of the bag you are allowed to take for free and then have a look for other people’s recommendations around packing light. There are a few threads on here where people have travelled with just the small underseat bag and I’ve seen a few reels on Instagram of people doing this. If you are staying in a hotel then there will be a hairdryer and shampoo provided and you can buy sunscreen in the airport.

If you think it won’t be possible for you (I wouldn’t fancy doing it for more than a night) then unfortunately you’ll have to pay for an extra case. If you feel uncomfortable mixing your things in with your partners then you could always both pack into something lightweight first eg packing cubes or even a couple of carrier bags.

Ive recently booked a holiday with Tui who have their own planes, but even they offer holidays using Ryanair and EasyJet if you want to travel on days where they don’t operate their own flights, and their advertised prices only include an underseat bag too.

Lindy2 · 19/05/2025 10:52

I recently booked with Love Holidays for an Easy Jet flight. It's all pretty clear as you go through the booking process what you can add on and how much it costs.

We paid for a 23kg suitcase which all 4 of us shared. We each then has a rucksack as our underseat bag in the plane.

My suggestions are, pack as light as you can and buy a lightweight suitcase. We got one from Home Bargains which is so light compared to our other cases.

AlphaApple · 19/05/2025 11:51

Sorrento is a pretty expensive destination so I assumed you had a reasonable amount of disposable income. £80 is a meal for two, or a hair-and-nails appointment, or a few months' gym membership. If you can afford to book a trip can't you just cut £80 out of your personal spending money to compensate for the larger luggage price?

Or, so what others have suggested and pack light, and share a case.

Dozycuntlaters · 19/05/2025 14:29

To be fair, annoying as it is, it's not LH's fault. I've booked through them a couple of times and when you check your booking it is crystal clear whats included. They are a low cost option, the place I go to through them, I've compared to other holiday providers and they are way the cheapest. Even booking flight and hotel direct, I still cant get even close. Just share a suitcase if you need one.

3pointmountain · 19/05/2025 14:37

It's not just a handbag, the underseat bag on Easyjet is plenty for a weekend away.

Otherwise, buy one bag between you or just factor it into the cost of the trip. My guess is the flights are still really cheap, relative to the old fashioned way where luggage was included.

You're comfortable to go on holiday and (presumably) share a hotel room, but not a suitcase? Don't go!

SomethingFun · 19/05/2025 14:54

I’ve just been away for nearly three weeks long haul and I had 18kg in a suitcase and I could’ve taken less really - you don’t need to take everything you’ve ever owned for a short European break. I’ve done a week in Europe with a rucksack - you decant your toiletries into small pots you can buy in primark/ home bargains, use the hotel’s hair dryer, shower gel etc etc and yes you hand wash your quick dry clothes in the shower - takes 5 mins. If you turn your nose up at this then you have to book more expensive flights or pay for extras.

The first time we did rucksacks we couldn’t believe how much easier it made travelling (no bag drop or waiting for luggage at the airport, no lugging suitcases onto public transport at destinations) and we decided the reason we’d done suitcases before was because they were included in packages so we took them because we could. I’d only do it for longhaul or a very long holiday now.

Take less stuff. Decant toiletries into small bottles.

Take half the clothes you think you need and rinse out if you have to.

Knickers can be surprisingly heavy. Look at travel varieties or even paper ones.

Wear one pair of sturdy shoes on the plane and pack another fancy pair if you must.

Wear thicker heavier clothes on the flight.

Redcrayons · 19/05/2025 15:07

How long are you going for? I’ve done a long weekend in Spain with just the free rucksack. If I was going for a week, I’d book the larger cabin bag, you still get your rucksack allowance.

You can save space by buying toiletries either airside or when you get there.

3pointmountain · 19/05/2025 15:11

If you're only planning to buy an extra cabin bag, you can't take loads of toiletries anyway because of the liquids rules.

Paper knickers? For the love of god. It’s a holiday not purgatory.

I like dressing nicely on holiday. I probably dress nicer than I do at home. I’m not wearing fecking paper pants nor am I spending my evenings hand washing and hanging up laundry

Paper knickers wtf. I'm a big fan of travelling light, but draw the line at paper pants 😆
