EasyJet 15kg bag cost 😢

brightbreezy6 · 16/05/2025 16:40

I’ve just booked a holiday to Sorrento through Love Holidays, flying with EasyJet. Included in the price was only a cabin bag - it didn’t specify dimensions. Now I have order confirmation through I can see that it is only a handbag that is included so I went to add a 15kg bag - Martin Lewis says this is from £6.99 - and found that it is an extra £38.24 EACH WAY 😭. Nearly £80 each for my partner and I!

is there any way I can get this cheaper? Can’t believe it.

that's standard and has been for years. I don't travel light and like having certain things with me. I included luggage price in my budget for holidays it's a non negotiable for me. some people travel carry on only some people bring the world with them. you need to look at prices on the air line and then decided what you can afford and want ti bring.

Chewbecca · 17/05/2025 12:34

We do the 'one big bag between' us approach on EJ the other advantage is I don't have to pull the case!

Re: sitting together, don't let them bully you into paying for a seat! If you select check in and let them allocate your seats, 9 times out of 10 you will be together anyway in my experience. For us, for a short flight, it's definitely worth the risk.

But remember, this is Mumsnet - where we have a pack of celery being 'loads' for dinner.

There is no end to the things that Mumsnet user will compete on.... competitive under-eating, competitive cleaning, competitive showering competitive pooing (yes, there have been threads) and now competitive packing...

I know its mad. we always pay for a 20kg bag each. it allows us to buy stuff on holidays too plus no lugging small sutucases around onto the plane.

Mynewnameis · 17/05/2025 12:36

Be cheaper if you share, even if it's 25kg. Pain to carry about but fine if you are straight to hotel

spoonbillstretford · 17/05/2025 12:54

I'd rather check a bag in.

Can't be arsed wheeling a bag around the entire airport and fannying about with what makeup is liquid, oh and I can't take enough shampoo for the week with the 100ml rule, and can I squeeze my deodorant into the titchy liquids bag, further fannying about at security, then trying to haul the bag up and down plane steps and lift it above my head into a locker.

You don't need luggage for a city break

Hand luggage is plenty

This op, you were happy with a cabin bag initially so you must have had a thought of how big ? Their website says this - Everyone can bring one small under seat cabin bag per person on board for free.

It can be a maximum size of 45 x 36 x 20 cm (including any handles and wheels) and must be kept under the seat in front of you. That should be enough to bring all the essentials for your journey or for a short trip. Your bag can weigh up to 15kg, but we do ask that you’re able to lift and carry it yourself.

ProudDada · 17/05/2025 12:57

Would be cheaper for one 32kg bag.

That's standard for EasyJet, it's also always more expensive to add bags on later.
It's also why love holidays are so cheap you have to add everything after.

CosyLemur · 17/05/2025 13:37

LIZS · 16/05/2025 16:45

It will be a underseat bag Included, can you add a cabin bag (small case) rather than hold luggage. Also check how much Speedy Boarding is as that usually includes the cabin bag as well as an under-seat one.

It's not even a under seat size allowed for free now, they charged me for a backpack that's smaller than A4!

BashfulClam · 16/05/2025 17:03

Eh? me and my husband have just packed our cases and they are just about 15kg each. It’s not loads at all.

You forgot this is Mumsnet where you must spend your entire holiday washing and rewearing clothes! You get extra points if you handwash them

LuvACustardCream · 17/05/2025 13:43

How could anyone not know this? I always find a cabin bag and a rucksack to go under the seat is plenty.

MiddleAgedDread · 17/05/2025 13:47

LightCameraBitchSmile · 16/05/2025 16:44

Do you really need 15kg each?! That’s loads! Share one

Well that totally depends how long you’re going for and what sort of holiday you’re going on!! We do activity based holidays and I can easily take nearly 20kg for the week due to the amount of different kit we need.

BangersAndGnash · 17/05/2025 13:52

Check the price of priority boarding, which includes a cabin bag instead of under-seat. A cabin beat each should be ok.

Otherwise take a checked 15Kg between you, and each take a well packed underseat bag. You can buy under seat holdalls that are weekend sized. Surely that will do? 15 Kg plus holdalls?

If you go on amazon you can find the easy jet bags and there bigger than you think and you can get plenty in

TartanMammy · 17/05/2025 18:05

That's the price 🤷‍♀️

For recent flights we were cheaper flying with KLM once we added in food and luggage. And it a far nicer flying experience.

TiredMummma · 18/05/2025 09:25

That’s always what it costs? Given you haven’t been on holiday for a very long time why not just pay it? I would agree with others though, it’s cheaper going via EasyJet and then you can flex when the flights are than a 3rd party that will have added costs

wishIwasonholiday10 · 18/05/2025 12:54

Helpmeplease2025 · 16/05/2025 17:51

It’s never been £6.99 for a bag

Agree with one large hold bag between you.

Edited

I think it varies a lot per route. They charge more on popular routes and places where people go for longer and want to take more stuff. By offering it for £6.99 on a few less popular destinations probably during low season they can advertise from £6.99 when in reality it is usually £30-40.

brightbreezy6 · 18/05/2025 21:37

@BangersAndGnashthanks for this, how do you get priority boarding? I’ve gone to ‘manage my booking’ but can’t see anything about that on there.

have defo learned my lesson and won’t be booking with Love Holidays again as this wasn’t clear at the time of booking!

Easyjet call it Speedy Boarding, or you can book the seats upfront and get an extra bag.

use love holidays all the time they do tell you in the terms and conditions aswell as when you click on your flights. I pay for my holiday including flights through them and then log on to buy my luggage and seats if required.

brightbreezy6 · 18/05/2025 23:04

@LIZSthank you, unfortunately booking seats doesn’t seem to get you more luggage. I can’t see any option for speedy boarding, only fast track through security- not sure if I’m just being thick?

OP posts:
workingcocker · 18/05/2025 23:33

Add a 23kg instead so that you only need 1. Cheaper than 2x 15kg.

brightbreezy6 · 19/05/2025 00:25

@workingcockercheaper but less weight and I need all the weight I can get - shoes, hair tools, clothes towels etc! Also this is a new partner so not sure I’m comfortable sharing a suitcase just yet.

You can get a lot into those small underneath bags you're allowed on Easyjet. Lots of reviews online of bags and how to pack sensibly.
OH and I then had 1 hold bag between us when we had a week in Italy but it was up to 23kg.

To those saying OP is 'incorrect' re £6.99 for a bag, I've just gone on Easyjet website and it does say 'from' this price.

Bjorkdidit · 19/05/2025 04:17

The £6.99 price will be for one very short flight (eg Liverpool to Isle of Man) in November, gradually increasing to 'how fucking much' if you want Manchester to Canaries in the summer.

It is annoying that it's not always clear how much a bag on its own is when they're trying to sell you the bag/seat/get on first combos but I don't think I've ever seen it for under about £30/40 for a flight to the Med.

But you can often save by getting one hold case vs two cabin cases but I can see how that's inconvenient if you don't live with your travelling companion.

How long as you going for? How much stuff does your partner want to take? Unless it's at least a week and your partner will also have as much stuff as you do and you can't share things like toiletries and straighteners, you'll have to suck up the cost.

However if your partner is a man who's packing is a couple of extra shirts, shorts, pants and flip flops and happy to use the hotel shower gel, then could he just give you hus stuff to go in a 23 kg hold case if that's cheaper than 2 cabin bags?
