EasyJet 15kg bag cost 😢

brightbreezy6 · 16/05/2025 16:40

I’ve just booked a holiday to Sorrento through Love Holidays, flying with EasyJet. Included in the price was only a cabin bag - it didn’t specify dimensions. Now I have order confirmation through I can see that it is only a handbag that is included so I went to add a 15kg bag - Martin Lewis says this is from £6.99 - and found that it is an extra £38.24 EACH WAY 😭. Nearly £80 each for my partner and I!

is there any way I can get this cheaper? Can’t believe it.

Do you really need 15kg each?! That’s loads! Share one

LIZS · 16/05/2025 16:45

It will be a underseat bag Included, can you add a cabin bag (small case) rather than hold luggage. Also check how much Speedy Boarding is as that usually includes the cabin bag as well as an under-seat one.

m00rfarm · 16/05/2025 16:45

No idea where you got 6.99 from. It is always between 30 and 40 per bag each way. Why not get a 20kg bag and share. 15kg each is a lot but not enough to share I don't think. 20kg or 23kg is ok between two. But 6.99? Never seen that on EasyJet and I travel many times each year!

yhiata · 16/05/2025 16:46

That’s pretty standard now for the cheap
airlines. EasyJet carry-on is bigger than a handbag though, check the website dimensions. I take my backpack and can manage a long weekend. if it’s a summer holiday can you pack light and buy toiletries etc when you get there?

WishItWasAlwaysFriday · 16/05/2025 16:47

For longer trips we get 1 check in luggage to share alongside the little ones. It works. Should be cheaper too

Eh? me and my husband have just packed our cases and they are just about 15kg each. It’s not loads at all.

Surely that depends how long you’re going for ?
I admittedly don’t travel light and like to take all my toiletries & sun creams as am fussy with brands , that’s often 5kg before you start on clothes !

House4DS · 16/05/2025 17:33

Share 1 hold bag instead for roughly the same cost - up to 25kg (I think) and any dimensions rather than the small wheely suitcase.

BendingSpoons · 16/05/2025 17:36

I think the OP is pricing up for one bag. £38 there and £38 back.

Not sure you will get it cheaper. You can check the cost of hold luggage versus cabin bag, but they are all fairly pricy.

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 16/05/2025 17:41

Too late now, but next time check the cost of the same holiday with EasyJet.

Their own holidays usually include checked luggage, & often work out cheaper than with a different operator.

amylou8 · 16/05/2025 17:49

That's how easy jet works. If you don't want luggage, to sit next to your partner or anything to eat you can get a bargain. As soon as you start adding stuff it can be as expensive as a full service airline.
Your personal bag will be an under seat rucksack size, and you can get a surprising amount in if you pack carefully.
If you add hold luggage usually the cheapest way is to get one heavier case 20/25kg and share.

Helpmeplease2025 · 16/05/2025 17:51

It’s never been £6.99 for a bag

Agree with one large hold bag between you.

But remember, this is Mumsnet - where we have a pack of celery being 'loads' for dinner.

There is no end to the things that Mumsnet user will compete on.... competitive under-eating, competitive cleaning, competitive showering competitive pooing (yes, there have been threads) and now competitive packing...

Hall84 · 16/05/2025 18:02

It's why I didn't take bags when I went to Spain with DD, a rucksack and packing cubes! Either book speedy boarding for a small case or £80, i decided id rather spend the money whilst we were there. You could probably split one depending on the length of your stay but we managed 5 days with just a rucksack each.

Ha ha true. I have just over 15kg in my case alone but I think it’s mostly clean pants lol…I have three pairs of shoes, trainers, sliders and Teva sandals. I’m not eating my other sandals to travel.

TizerorFizz · 16/05/2025 19:06

People love washing their clothes on holiday on MN! Don’t book cheap airlines is my advice. Check the small print!

MadKittenWoman · 16/05/2025 19:25

For a short trip of a week we always get one 26 kg bag- room and weight allowance for toiletries on the way there and new stuff on the way back. Put anything heavy but small, like electricals and jewellery, in your underseat bag. 2 weeks plus, we get a bag each. I have loads of glamorous clothes, shoes and accessories which I can’t wear in the UK so I’m not leaving them behind!

Nugg · 17/05/2025 12:14

It’s not a handbag I have gone on a two week holiday with a bag the size that they allow and I’ve just come back from a holiday now doing the same go and look up the dimensions and order one from Amazon they’re about 15 quid and you can get loads in it just pack carefully!

boredoflaundry · 17/05/2025 12:16

We took around 15 kgs each to Australia for 3 weeks! 😂 including toiletries, hairdryers, straighteners and suncream.
it is loads!
check the weight of your suitcases, because that can make a massive difference!
(we brought back more! Because we had space in the cases).

SingWithMeJustForToday · 17/05/2025 12:18

How much people take on holiday is really varied.

Me, my husband and our 2 kids travel hand luggage only, but I wouldn’t do washing on holiday, and having loads fo transport and keep track of stresses me out. I have a friend who takes two 28kg hold bags plus a 15kg for each child, but she prefers to have everything they have at home.

OP, if you need the luggage, you’ll have to pay for it. This is how EasyJet make their money. There’s no way to get it cheaper.

minnienono · 17/05/2025 12:20

That’s the reason love holiday look cheaper, they don’t include luggage!

book the larger size bag to share

GreenFields07 · 17/05/2025 12:29

Im guessing you havent been on a plane in a while? Its been pretty standard for years to have to pay extra for luggage, unless they're included in a package deal. And iv never in all those years seen it at 6.99! Mumsnet cant give you a discount code unfortunately, the price is the price. We go away soon for 10 days, family of 5, we have 3 20kg cases to share. It depends how long youre going for and how much you plan to take. Share a case or just pay it.

Miyagi99 · 17/05/2025 12:29

Large cabin bag is £5.99 56 x 45 x 25 cm so bigger than a handbag.

RachTheAlpaca · 17/05/2025 12:33

You don't need luggage for a city break

Hand luggage is plenty

ExpressCheckout · 17/05/2025 12:34

International travel is a luxury, and luxuries are by definition expensive. Also bear in mind that these days flights are very cheap compared to what they were 20-30 years ago.

So, I don't think this is a lot to pay. Consider it another way - if (say) you wanted to post a 15kg parcel to/from Italy, it would be around £100 each way! (Royal Mail price)
